“Only joking lads, have fun in your new rooms new students.” He said smiling. A knock came and Zoe steps in, “Hi,” She says as we all bow.
“May I stay with my heroes for a little while?” She asks. “Sure, since your royalty.” Sir Kayden said as he excuses himself to go see the other the Knights.
“My heroes.” She says teasing. We all hug her. Paul wouldn’t let go though. We all had to force him off of her. “Excited no?” she asks.
“Very excited milady.” Christian bows again then looks up to see Abigail. “Good-evening master Christian.” Abigail said bowing her head.
Still low, Christian straightens himself and stammers a hello. She and Zoe laughed! “We better go.” Zoe said as they all say good-bye.
“What is that?” Garret asks Rohan. “My knives. It is necessary for Rangers to have them.” Rohan explains. “But only knights are aloud, so you shouldn’t be here!” Vincent accuses.
“The handbook did say only knights and squires are aloud to attend The Knights of Chivalry.” Christian said.
“I know what the handbook said, I read it myself. Anyway I’m only here during festivals, meals, tournaments, balls, and night times.” Rohan explains.
“Still we are going to tell Sir Kayden.” Garret taunts. I want to say something but my mouth wouldn’t let me. “Go ahead he’ll only listen to the royals other teachers and me.” Rohan said.
“Why?” I ask as everyone gathers around him. “Sir Kayden. Is my father.” Rohan explains grinning.
Classes
As we walk down the halls for history, I had to ask, “How is Sir Kayden your father?”
“Well my father married and mother and they had me…” He explains then asks uncertain, “Do you want me to explain exactly how they did it?”
We did a chorus of NO! “Hello son,” Sir Kayden walks up. “Heading towards history, bad luck.”
“Why is that sir?” Garret asks. Sighing he said, “You have Sir Havarti York as your teacher and trust me you don’t want to get him too mad.” I started thinking what Sir Havarti would think of us. Not a pretty picture.
“Well I won’t want you guys to be late.” Sir Kayden said as he leaves. “Sir Havarti… sounds like Garret’s brother so something.” Christian says as we open the door to I think hell number 2.
“I am Sir Havarti York. But you must call me Sir York. Today we will be studying the founders of Chivalry. Richard Silverback, Grayson Winter, and Gerard Evergreen.” Sir Havarti says in a gloomy voice.
“Richard Silverback,” Havarti starts as we all open our books. “The leader of the pack but not the oldest. He was of noble blood. Heir to the throne of France.” We all took notes just in case there’s going to be a quiz.
“Grayson Winter was headmaster of another school for boys. He was also the commander of the French Army.” Sir Havarti explains then goes on to the last man.
“Gerard Evergreen he was a pirate king. Terence,” Havarti says to me.
“Are you related to the pirate king?” He asks. “I don’t think so sir.” I said uncertain.
He continued on, “There is not much said about Gerard Evergreen except by Sir Richard’s letters that he was a great man who died a terrible death, more terrible than the black plague.”
‘What cold be more terrible than the black plague?’ I thought writing this stuff down.
After the lesson Sir Havarti gave us some work and dismisses us to fencing class. Everyone there from different classes was crowding around to see a private lesson. It didn’t look like fencing, it looked more like archery.
“Who the heck could it be?” Prospero Fawner from year 3 asks. I noticed all the Knights were smiling and so was Prince Julian.
“And to think she couldn’t hit a dead on target.” Sir Thomas says to the other Knights. I bet everyone caught that.
“Okay my class is here so we will pick this up later okay?” Sir Nicholas said bowing. The figure turns around to bow back and to everyone’s surprise the figure was not a he but a she!
“Zoe!” Liam Bennington from year fourth says surprised.
“Girls should stick to sewing, embroidery, and music.” Vincent shouts out. That was a mistake for Zoe heard it, turned around bow and arrow at the ready.
“Say that again, and you won’t be here ever again.” She threatens lowering her bow and giving it back to Sir Nicholas.
“Now, we will do what I call advance-retreat-lung-advance-retreat. Can you all do that?” Sir Nicholas asks as we all did exactly as he told us. “I have a question,” Rohan asks raising his hand.
Sir Nicholas nods in approval. Rohan continues on, “Well why are the upper years doing this with us?”
“That’s a good question, we have a tournament soon. But don’t tell his majesty I said that. He doesn’t know we’re having it in a week.” Sir Nicholas explains as we continue our training.
After our training we are allow to take a break until our next lesson. Dancing. Rohan, on the other hand had to go meet us with his master, the ranger so he doesn’t get a break.
“I hear that the girls in the kingdom are going to help us with the dancing.” Derek Butler of year 2 says.
“I hope I get Diana.” Vincent says dreamily. ‘So Vincent fancies Diana.’ I thought. “The prince would probably dance with his sister as always.” Bryan Reinhous of fourth year says as everyone in year 3 and 4 agree.
The dancing is taught by both Sir Quinton and Lady Celesta. Sir Quinton was making us all laugh because of his “dancing.”
Smiling brightly, Lady told each and every one of us to take a ladies’ hand. To everyone’s surprise, Zoe walks up to me.
“Will you be my partner?” She asks as I saw Prince Julian take Lady Cassandra’s hand. “Sure milady.” I said taking her hand.
I noticed a huge grin on Christian’s face as he finally took Abigail’s hand. “She doesn’t like men very much. Her father abandoned her and her brother died in battle.” Zoe whispers to me. I felt sorry for her.
“Husband, will you turn on the music?” Lady Celesta asks as Sir Quinton went over to turn on the music. Watching what they were doing, we did the same.
To my surprise Christian, for being an orphan was an excellent dancer. Rohan came back and asks Lady Rose to dance.
They had been friends for a really long time. After the dancing we all went to eat. I wonder what they’re serving today.
“So what is the tournament exactly?” Christian asks, taking a bite out of a turkey leg. I also want to know and so does everyone else.
“Well,” Fernando Greywacke of fourth year starts. “Every year we hold the tournament in three different schools. We do the fencing challenge; The Shield of Arms School does the dancing, and lastly the Cross Swords School does the maze which contains lots of things you can’t imagine.”
After he explains it to us he took a piece of pork from Garret who didn’t seem to notice. “Wow the last one sounds intense.” Rohan said.
“I wonder who is invited?” I ask. “Oh, everyone. Rangers, knights, royals, assassins.” Rohan explains.
“Assassins! Aren’t they the enemy?” Paul asks hearing our conversation. “Yes it is tradition, I just wonder if we’re going to have some hunters this time.” Rohan wonders out loud.
I turn to see Zoe and she’s got a worry face on her. ‘What’s with the face?’ I thought sipping some wine which I didn’t care for.
“Why does Lady Zoe look worry?” Christian asks as we head back to our rooms. “Probably because she noticed you drooling.” Vincent teases him.
“Ah that wasn’t the reason.” Raleigh Princeton, son of Viscount Richard Princeton. ‘Thanks.’ I thought as he continues to talk to them which gave us a chance to lock our door before more humiliation can occur.
“I swear by my own grave, one day. I’m going to give them hell.” Adam Princeton, Raleigh’s younger twin brother declares. “You forgot something.” I said.
“What is that?” he asks raising an eyebrow. “Even though we follow the Code of Chivalry we still have other rules and rule number twelve states that we shouldn’t give comrades whether we like them or not hell.” Rohan explains grabbing his bow and arrow. “
Heading off to the rangers?” Christian asks.
“Yes I am, after I talk to my father first.” Rohan said heading out. “I wonder what rangers do?” Adam wonders out loud. I thought the same thing.
“Boy you are not holding it right.” Galion said as Horace tries to position the knives the right way.
“Still wrong. Like this.” Galion explains showing how to hold the knives properly. Finally Horace got it right.
“Father, Rohan’s here.” Septimus says as they stop to see Rohan put his stuff on the grass. “I’m here master, what did I miss?” Rohan ask.
“Nothing much except that Horace, doesn’t know how to hold a knife.” Galion says as Horace grins nervously. “Don’t worry about it. Knives weren’t meant for you, besides, you’re a dead on shooter.” Rohan says as Horace smiles proudly, picks up his bow and arrow and shoots a target which looks like an Assassin.
“Never miss a target.” He declares as Galion motions his son to call a servant boy. “Let’s see how our archery skills go with on horses.” He said the servant boy comes with some horses.
While sewing the girls were looking very
