elsewhere. So give her a chance to decide.” Bonnie says then looks to Clyde with a forgiving look in her eyes.

“Come on Clyde, I think it’s time to go now.” Bonnie says as she reaches out to him, Clyde nods that he understands, when he is on his feet him and Bonnie start walking. The meadow around me fades to a road I recognize as highway one fifty four. “Bonnie, Clyde, where are you two going?” I call after them, Bonnie and Clyde look back at me then look back to the road where a bright light shines, their crossing over.

“Good afternoon passengers! This is your flight attendant speaking, we have safely landed, if you would please gather your belongings and walk single file to the exit that would be just dandy! Have a great day and thank you for choosing southern airlines!” The loud voice of the flight attendant abruptly wakes me from my slumber.

“Are you okay Barrette? You look like you’ve seen a ghost?” Heather asks from her place next to Bonnie two rows down where the girls are waiting for me to join them. “Nope, attendant startled me is all.” I grumble jumping to my feet to walk with the girls out into the hall leading to the airport.

“Barrette, are you still going to insist I go to you to this award show red carpet thing tonight?” Bonnie says with a strained voice as she lifts her’s and Heather’s suit case off the plane. “Yep, I bought the dress for you to go. So you’re going.” I announce, for a moment I can hear Clyde’s words in my ears but I push it back. If I listen to him then I’m going to have at least one dance with Bonnie before I let her go, and a dance that doesn’t end with us running for our lives.

“Actually, Heather can go. The dress fits her, a lot better than me I might add.” Bonnie replies as we start towards the front of the air port. “Don’t care, you are going.” I order Bonnie leaving no room for arguing; however the raven haired woman before me looks back defiantly. “I am?” She scoffs clearly showing that she will make a big fuss over this one simple request.

“Yes.” I reply. “Barrette, give the girl a break. She’s been trapped with you for three weeks; I think maybe she’s had enough?” Heather says taking Bonnie’s side with the entire disagreeance. “Thank you! Finally someone understands that, you’re a good guy and all barrette but I can only handle so much of your….you.” Bonnie says waving her hand beckoning to all of me.

“Oh, well jeez girls. Thanks for boosting the ego.” I snap as were clearing out the door to the side walk where my tour bus and about six others are lined up waiting for the stars who go with the labels on the bus. “Barrette, you have how many millions of fans? I think you ego is just fine.” I hear Marcus say jokingly from the tour bus door. Looking to the tour bus I see my band crew standing there looking back with smiling faces, for a brief moment in time I can almost see Chelsea standing there beside Marcus doing her adorable happy dance. She did that anytime I was gone for more than a few days, I would get out of the airport and see her little dance before she ran up to hug me.

Looking back I think that Chelsea was secretly in love with me but was to afraid to act on that little feeling in her heart.

“Good to see you Marcus, I’m glad you’re so worried about my sanity.” I retort equally as joking as he was with his comment. “Climb on up, you have an interview in an two hours-

“And a three hour drive there?” Both Bonnie and I interrupt Marcus. “That’s kinda been our luck these last few weeks.” Bonnie informs Marcus as all of us climb up into the tour bus, once all our belongings are set down I flop down into my chair feeling just rested enough for the next interview. First, I have to show Bonnie something that I’m not sure how she will react.

As the bus starts to roll on down the freeway I reach over to the spot where my old guitar is always sitting and pick it up. “Bonnie.” I call her attention from my drummer who’s just now able to introduce himself and the rest of the band.

“Hm?” Bonnie hums back; I strum a few chords on the guitar and then look Bonnie right in the eyes. “I wrote this back at the cabin and I wanted to get your opinion. I’ve been working on it on and off throughout the entire trip.” I explain to her thinking back to the cabin, then after everyone went to bed in Georgia, Hotel California, the cheap motel in Louisiana.

“You wrote a song while we were running for our lives?” Bonnie says sounding almost irritated with me. “Not just some song, I wrote a song that will be dedicated to you.” I reply to her, I watch as Bonnie’s eyes tear up a little and her form loosens, no long angry with me.

“Barrette, I…you wrote a song dedicated to me and-

“Don’t, just listen Bonnie.” Heather interrupts, the two girls exchange a long meaningful look to which Bonnie finally sheds a tear. “Heather it’s not-

“It is, that chance is long gone. Things change, remember that.” Heather says to Bonnie sounding so cryptic that it’s irritating with me. I know that whatever they are talking about now has to do with whatever was said by Bonnie outside the jailhouse outside of Georgia. I know it has to do with me and I want to know so desperately what is going on.

“Okay.” Bonnie finally surrenders as she looks at me still fighting back tears. I nod my thanks to Bonnie and then heather. I wait just a few more seconds while Marcus and the band gets settled into their normal seats eager and ready to hear the next song being put as track one on the next album release.

I strum a few chords on the guitar to check if everything is as I left it, when I’m satisfied with the pitch I start strumming the long introductory solo. Just hearing the chords I’m picking I hear Bonnie sniffing; she’s no longer trying to fight back tears. In fact she’s letting the tears fall freely now, I look up as Heather moves from my side of the bus to Bonnie’s side, the girls lean into each other looking for support when I open up my lungs and vocals to start singing.

Chapter 13

On the run chapter 13

Not so happily ever after

Bonnie’s perspective

Guns N Roses, Paradise city blasts loud and proud through the massive speakers in my grandfather’s sixty seven Camero. I come to a stop at the end of the off ramp to wait for the street light to change giving a deep sigh of relief as I tie my midnight black hair up into a high pony tail. The long mess of waves has been aggravating me for the last hour I’ve been driving down the one oh one freeway heading towards the Tujunga exit. A smile pulls at the corners of my crimson stained lips as people cross through the cross walk gawking at me on their way by.

I nod to them out of respect looking around with a whole new wave of appreciation; I got to the hotel where my dad had already dropped off the Camero so he could get back to the shop and continue working on my Mustang that I guess had the front end pretty banged up on its way to impound. I bid my see you later to everyone in Barrette’s band crew, then to Heather before setting off to go pick up my sisters Anna, Terra, and Ferra from their respective jobs. Now all of us are in the car heading towards my dads house, everyone at home is eager to hear the full story on the whole Bonnie and…Barrette versus the big bad Devon.

Right about now I should be telling you how I’ve learned so much and how I am going to turn my life completely around. I should be saying that I’ve found a more righteous path and I’m going to do my best never to be sinful or get into trouble ever again. I mean after all you were sitting between the passenger’s seat and the back seat this entire ride, so you think I would have learned something by now.

If that’s what you think, then you really weren’t listening very well, I’m an outlaw and I will forever and for always remain an outlaw.

“Bonnie, Bonnie, no, do not even-

Screech! The sound of car tires burning out at the stop light causes everyone walking on the streets to jump with alarm as I peel out from the light guiding the car straight towards the windy road that leads me home. Anna laughs excitedly, Terra reaches for the crazy driver bar that is attached in to the headliner in the back seat and Ferra begins screaming her head off. As for me, well I give a wicked laugh as I reach the twisty windy road in a New York minute; easily drifting the corners acting like today is my last day on earth.

Before anyone has the opportunity to reach back and smack Ferra for screaming, the E-ticket ride is over and I’m screeching to a stop in the driveway of my dad’s house. This time the family isn’t outside waiting for me, but I can hear them in the back yard laughing and having a grand time. All four of us sisters step out of the car and head for the front door excited to be back home under the same roof for the first time in many years.

Inside the house I stop just outside the back sliding glass door looking towards my room, I can suddenly feel the weight of both revolvers weighing on my sides. Even though they feel heavy now, I can feel the nagging urge to keep them at my side.

“Why don’t you go talk to gramps, we’ll let everyone know your back.” Anna says as she tucks her blonde hair behind her ears, I give her a courteous sad smile as I make the needed turn to get to the stairs leading up to my room.

Stepping inside my room I take an abrupt left turn to face the wall across from my bed that perches in the center of the room against the far left wall. Still hanging up proudly is my grandfather’s folded up flag, his picture, and the plaque where he hung up his guns. “I can’t believe I’m saying this gramps but, I finally let it go. Of course, forgiveness is out of the question for my mother, she was working with Devon to try and have me killed so obviously she truly hates me. But I let the past go, Devon is in prison, all the bad guys surrounding him are in prison.” I sigh as I take a seat on my bed and reach for the whiskey bottle
