station 1 mile". She got really happy to see that sign. She felt like running but had no more energy left in her to run. Right then she remembered the two cups she grabbed out of that room from the house. She still didn't know what was in the cups; all she knew was that what was in there made her stronger than she has ever been in her life. Zarra quickly drank one of the cups and felt herself getting stronger like she did the last time she drank out of the cup. She decided to save the last cup just in case she needs it later.
Zarra started to run again. She saw an off ramp then saw the gas station. She ran even faster until she got to the front door to the store. When she got inside she went up to the cashier and asked where she was. The cashier said she was two miles outside of Vermont. She got really excited because she knew she was close to home. She then asked to use the restroom to clean herself up.
When she left the store she couldn’t help but cry. She knew at that moment she is closer to being able to see her brother and sisters. She kept going until everything started looking familiar. As soon as she saw her apartment she ran up to her place, hoping to find her brother and sisters. When she didn’t find them, she ran to the police station. When she walked in the first police officer recognized her. He pulled her to a conference room and told her to wait there until he could get his boss.
The head office came in and stared at Zarra. He sat in front of her and just sat there. She stared back. She then asked “Why am I here?” He didn’t answer. She then asked “Where are my siblings?” He finally asked “Where have you been?”
She wanted to tell him everything that had happened to her, but she didn’t want him to think she was crazy so she lied to him. She told him that she was kidnapped. He looked shocked.
He then asked “How did you get out?”
She replied, “When he went out of the house I waited a few minutes to make sure he was gone and I climbed out a window in the back.”
“Why did you go out the back?” He asked.
“I went out the back so no one could see me and so that they couldn’t call him and tell him what I was doing.” She said.
The officer looked at her and then asked, “Do you know how long you have been gone?”
“A few weeks. Why?” She replied.
He looks at her with sad eyes then replies, “You have been gone for six months.”
She gets up quickly and says “What? How could that be?”
He leaves the room for a few minutes. She leans against the wall and slowly falls to the floor and cries. The officer comes back into the room but with a big calendar. He asks her to come over to the table and look at it. He points to one date and says”This is when you went missing.” She stares at the date. He then flips a few pages and points to today’s date and says “This is today, the day you got back. It has been six months.”
She began to cry. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
