expected it to. One minute, it was Saturday and I was filling out papers and watching movies on my couch until the early hours of the morning, and now it is 6:15am on Monday morning and I was contemplating what to wear on my very first day of high school. Last night, when I read the hand book, I noticed that the dress code wasn’t that strict. You could basically wear whatever you wanted as long as it wasn’t just your underwear. So, with that in mind, I was stuck between two different outfits: a dark pair of short jean shorts, black combat boots, and a loose black work shirt with the sleeves rolled up or, a light pair of short jean shorts, a light brown pair of work boots, a loose v-necked, flesh colored shirt with the sleeves rolled up and tucked into my shorts, a brown belt, and a tan-ish gray-ish knit sweater.

After a few more minutes of deliberation, I chose to go with the latter of the two choices. After I decided, I went into the bathroom to take a shower. I washed my hair with my new vanilla scented shampoo and my body with my new cinnamon and vanilla shower gel. After I got out, I wrapped myself in the light pink bathrobe that I bought the other day and blow dried my hair. When I was finished, I walked back into my bedroom and pulled on my clothes. I left my hair down to hang around my shoulders in its natural waves. I applied a little mascara and lip-gloss and I was ready. I walked to the front door, grabbed my keys, my bag and a bit of money and walked down to the lobby. After a few minutes, the cab showed and I made my way to school.

The cab pulled into the drive way of Santa Barbara High and I gathered my things and got out of the small yellow car and started walking towards the front doors. As I walked, I could feel the gazes of the other students burning holes into my back, but I just ignored it and went on. Just as I was about to walk inside the school, a tall blonde boy stepped in front of me. He had piercing blue eyes and a smile that could kill. “Hi,” he said, “my name is Drake. You have got to be new here, because I don’t remember seeing someone this beautiful walking around here before.”

This dude just screamed player. Just the way that he was looking at me like I was a piece of meat was making my skin crawl. Something was off about him. “So, how ’bout a pretty girl going out to dinner with a handsome guy? It’s only natural,” he said and shrugged.

Something about his cockiness set me on edge. His presence alone already put me on edge, but now this cockiness just pushed me straight over. I smiled up at him sweetly and put my hand on his cheek, “How ’bout no,” I said and slapped him lightly on the cheek and walked passed him into the school, leaving him gawking after me. What? Don’t look at me like that. I might be an angel, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t be a little bitchy when I want too. I mean come on, I have spent basically my entire existence on earth.

I walked down the halls of the school until I found locker number 367. I quickly put in the combination and opened the locker. Inside was a set of books. A literature book, an English book, an Algebra II Trigonometry book, and AP History book. I pulled open my bag and pulled out the map and my schedule that Mrs. Janice had given me when I registered Saturday.

I had Algebra II Trig first so I grabbed a pen, a notebook and the textbook out of my locker and started looking for room number fifteen. After a couple of minutes, I found the classroom. A couple of people were already there and in their seats, but I just walked passed them and sat at the back of the classroom. About five minutes later, the bell rang and the other students in the class started piling in and taking their seats. I wasn’t paying much attention until the chair next to me moved. I looked up and a girl with black hair and big bright blue eyes was sitting next to me smiling.

“Hi! My name is Aria Lynn Darcy, but most people just call me Lynn. You must be new here, what’s your name,” she asked me, smiling expectantly.

Right off the bat, I got a good, pure vibe off of her. She made me comfortable. I smiled back at her genuinely, “Yeah, today is my first day actually. My name is Danica Nyxe,” I said.

“Cool. I’m going to call you Dani, if that’s alright with you,” she said and I laughed and nodded.

“Yeah, that’s fine. So, is everyone around here as peppy and nice as you are,” I asked. When I did she just shrugged.

“Not really. Almost everyone finds me exceptionally annoying, well, everyone except my friends. You have got to meet them. They’ll love you!”

“Ok,” I said. Just then the teacher, Mr. Howard, came in and started the lesson. During the entire class, Lynn and I talked and she told me everything about everyone in the school, including the jerk that I had a run in with earlier, which I learned that his name was Hayden Carmen. He was the start quarterback of the football team and was a huge jerk. I also knew about the “Queen Bee’s”, Molly, Adrianna and Catt. They were the stereotypical cheerleaders that opened their legs for every guy on the football team. Lynn also told me about her best friends, Daniel, Jayse and Halle.

“Oh yeah, and Evan Monroe. He is like the hottest guy in the school. He is kind of quiet and thinks that he is better than everyone, even Molly. She has tried ever since freshman year to get to him but he has ignored her every time. I would advise not to waist your time on him, obviously none of us here are good enough for him,” she said rolling her eyes. I laughed to myself at her expression. I mean come on, he can’t be the hottest guy in the entire school, there has got to be someone better.

A few minutes later, the bell rang and I gathered my things and waited on Lynn. It turned out that we had lockers right next to each other. “So,” I asked her, “what class do you have next?”

“Phys Ed, what about you?”

“AP English,” I said and she frowned. “I guess I’ll see you at lunch. What lunch do you have?”

“The best one, B. Everyone who is anyone is in there, including Evan Monroe,” she said.

“Cool, so do I. Well, I guess I’ll see you then,” I said as I shut my locker and walked off to room 26 to sit through English.
