a piano, bass and drums. The piano player-lead singer sounded like Dr.John and soon the beat had everyone rolling in time to the music. Conversation was sparse over the loud music but the magic was in the air. Time passes so quickly when you are having such fun and they soon noticed it was almost two a.m. Upon leaving the club they stopped for a cup of coffee at a local shop and then headed to her house. Jan invited him in and after another cup of coffee, they came together and he stayed the night making love, culminating a perfect night.
The pale morning light was shining through the window as Ray awakened. With hazy eyes he looked at the sleeping woman laying next to him and thought how lucky he was to have found her. Slipping quietly out of the bed, he went to the bath and washed his face. Afterward he went to the kitchen and started a fresh pot of coffee.
Jan woke up to the smell of fresh coffee and the aroma of bacon and eggs. She rose out of bed and slipped on a robe and freshened up then went into the kitchen to find Ray putting the finishing touches to their breakfast. Ray turned and saw her and and smiled as he put the plates on the table and walked over and kissed her. "Breakfast for a Queen." he said as he buttered the toast for the table. She smiled and thought out loud, "How lucky can I be?"
As he bit off a piece of toast he told her he would have to go out of town on business for a while. "I'll miss you while you're gone' was her reply. "I'll wrap it up as quickly as possible", he said. "The idea of being away too long doesn't sit well with me!" After breakfast they made love once again. It was an exquisite experience for them both.
Ray arrived home and went to the living room and phoned the rail-road office and told them to mark him off until he reported back as he had to go out of town for some personal business. He then went into his bedroom and pulled a travel bag from the closet and started to pack. When completed packing he went to the face-plate and removed the envelope and a ring from the enclosure. He went into the bath and opened a secret compartment behind the medicine chest and removed a shoe-box. Opening the shoe-box he removed a blond wig and false mustache and a pair of contact lenses with brown pupils. Also checked out the phoney I.D. for James Denton, including a picture drivers license showing the mustached blond-haired, brown-eyed man. He called the airline and booked a flight to Austin using a credit card in the name of James Denton and booking a car rental to await him at the airport. placing everything back into the box he placed it into a shopping bag with a couple of new shirts still packaged and called a taxi.
Sitting in his rental car in Austin, James Denton watched watched Janet Watkins from a discreet distance as she left the school grounds and entered her car. The blond haired man followed her to her home at which she arrived after a short stop at a food store to pick up a few items. He sat watching the house as the sun settled in the western sky and darkness crept upon the scene. He watched as her husband left for the airport for his late night flight to the west coast. Shortly afterwards she emerged from the house dressed in a dark blue cocktail dress and drove off to a popular music club downtown. About ten minutes later he entered the club and walked to the bar and ordered a beer. Sitting on the stool he casually looked around the darkened club, noting that she was now sitting in a small booth in a dark corner about six table lengths from the bandstand. A young man wearing a sports jacket and light tan trousers entered and walked directly to the booth and sat next to her leaning over to give her a kiss as a greeting and smiling placed his hand on her thigh. The waitress walked over and took his drink order and while waiting for their drinks they were getting more cozy in the haze of the darkened booth. ray watched as they behaved like two teens on a first date, laughing at private jokes and necking, not at all like a married woman and friends. sometime later they left together and Ray followed them to a Motel on the outskirts of town where he checked in as she waited in his car. They then retired to a room at which time Ray left and went back to his own hotel and went to bed.
The following day he was parked and watching her home again. It was Saturday morning and somewhere before noon, Janet left her home and drove to a clothing store on Congresss St.to shop. Upon leaving the shop, she went into a nearby diner and ate. Ray saw his opportunity and when he noticed her paying her check and heading towards the door, he walked towards the diner and flipped the top of his ring. Exposing a tiny needle he met her at the door as she exited and clumsily walked into her accidently. While doing this he made sure to prick her bare arm with the needle and excused himself with a foolish look on his face and walked back to his car and as he drove off , he noticed that Janet had stopped and was barely able to stand and appeared to be having a heart attack. He smiled as the effects off the poison he had injected into her took over and headed back to his hotel.
By the time he was packed and ready to go to the airport and fly back home Janet Watkins was already dead in a hospital emergency room. He took out the cell phone he had purchased and placed a text message to a pre-determined phone number in code. Arriving at his home airport, he went to a locker and with-drew the shopping bag and went into a nearby restroom. Making sure that no one was around he changed back to Ray. and placed all the leftover items in the shopping bag and placed the shirts over them. Picking up his luggage and the bag, he walked to his car and drove home.
It was three days later when his James Denton picked up cellphone signaled a text message had been received. Upon reading the coded message which indicated the client had affirmed the operation successful, he went to his computer and checked the foriegn account and noted the money had been deposited. He then called his office and reported back to work.
