Chapter 3: The Plans

Chapter Three: The Plans

As the days crept by, the three classmates who has become best friends by now were planning for their daring adventure to the Creepy Mountains of Mount Horrour. Jean was working on his another device, a torch which give fire, light, has a knife and if a trigger is pressed, and there was a metal detector in it too. Why they need a metal detector, Thomas never knew, but he did not point this out to Jean. Emma, on the other hand was impressed with this extraordinary talent of her friends. As Halloween came closer, the children grew so excited, they had to hop every time they remembered it.

Just two days before Halloween, the night where the three friends were plotting a daring adventure, Thomas called for a meeting in the field. He thought this was necessary because he had to know what everyone packing, and what they need for the journey.

`Oh Thomas, I was sleeping! Honestly, you could do this whatever this thing is in the after-after-afternoon or so?’ Emma said, stifling a huge yawn.

`Don’t be ridiculous Emma’, Thomas snapped and continued, `We have to make sure no one hears us. If we do in the afternoon, there are thousands of people roaming around, and everyone can eavesdrop’, Thomas said in a businesslike way.

`There aren’t even some hundred people here. How can you expect someone to hear us?’ Emma said, stretching her hands.

`Yeah, then it’ll be easier to hear us!’ Thomas raged.

`Honestly, what did you even call us for?’ Emma said, trying to avoid a quarrel.

`I called to see who will bring what and what the things we need in the journey are. I made a list of 20 objects. We cannot take everything, so we will decide and cross the unnecessary ones off. No more than 12 objects can be taken. I don’t want the bags to be too heavy’, Thomas said, as he handed the paper to Emma’s outstretched hand.

`Oh, of course we need the Ghost Catcher and the Tornado Torch. You can cross of candles, knife, and keep the rope and fishing rod’, Emma said, handing the paper back to Thomas.

`Exactly why do we need a fishing rod?’ Jean asked talking for the first time in the meeting.

`It has its uses’, Emma snapped, ` What to do when you need to get something a long way away but you can’t go there?’

`Yes. Jean, how many Tornado Torches do you have?’ Thomas asked raising both his eyebrows.

`About-about-about-f-fo-foo-four’, Jean said, yawning.

`OK. So the things we will be taking are: the Ghost Catcher, the Tornado Torch, five candles, two ropes, two fishing rods, three head torches, a first aid packet with bandages, sanitizers and an antiseptic cream, and-‘ Thomas eyes were round and sparkling, `That’s it. Only seven things!’

`Will be hard to gather though’, Jean pointed out.

`Nonsense. I’ve got thousands of ropes, because my father and my mother were hikers, and then I’ve got fishing rods because we used to do ice fishing- if you know what I mean- and then head torches my father has one- oh no- only one-‘

`It’s OK, I’ve got two, I was thinking how I will gather another one, but now we’ve got one!’ Thomas said, and beckoned her to continue.

`Great, so that’s about the half of the things, Jean’s got the Tornado Torches and the Ghost Catcher, but the First aid packet- I have one, but they are for emergency use-‘

`I have many first aid stuff. I can gather the important things and fill them in a packet. My Dad was a doctor in the city before he came here and married Mum, so- that’s explains the many first aid stuff.’ Thomas said.

`Great, we’ve got all the things sorted, can we go home now?’ Jean said, rubbing his eyes.

`Ugh- no- I just got rid of my tiredness and I won’t fall asleep now. So why don’t we roam around the village? It’s a beautiful place and I haven’t been everywhere, so maybe you could- you know- show me around?’ Emma asked pleadingly.

`My pleasure. I was just going to take a walk around the village’, Thomas said, a grin spreading across his face.

`Oh- alright. I also fancy a bit of a walk……’ Jean drawled.

Chapter 4: The Sign Again

Chapter Four: The Sign Again

As they walked along the village fields and roamed around the houses, they came right under the mountain, in front of the cave of Mount Horrour.

`Oh my, look at this’, Emma gasped, looking at the grave-like stone.

`What?’ Thomas said, moving away from the cave and going to the stone, `What is it?’

Emma gasped, `There’s a mark like a-‘

`Yeah, like someone scratched it. I saw it the day you first came to school, I was going to tell Jean but the plan drove the mark out of my mind’, Thomas said.

`And it is recent. Like, 2-3 weeks old’, Emma said, more shocked.

`But does it matter?’ Jean said lazily as he leaned on a mountain tree.

`Yeah- no one cares’, Thomas said.

`You people don’t understand, do you?’, Emma snapped, `This stone was made holy with some kind of things they show in horror movies with spirits and demons. So it was unbreakable and it could not be hurt. It would take a very strong force to do that. It only means –‘

`The cave really has a spirit, and it scratched the stone!’ Jean said, jumping up from the support of the tree.

Emma replied bossily, `Exactly. So we need a lot of security to go down there. I don’t think it is a good idea. I mean, I really want to go down there, but we can’t, because it is not about life and death, we are dealing with the evil spirits. Evil spirits are very hard to get rid of. One of our neighbors was a priest, and he was my baby-sitter when my parents went to work. He told me that these spirits and souls are evil, and therefore has very demonic powers. One should be very careful when handling this. But, sometimes, even experts have troubles to decontaminate an evil spirit affected object. Sometimes, people’s soul are taken away to be placed with an evil spirit, and once in our village, right beside the local church, an old man-‘

`We are understand, OK? But we’ve been planning this for ages, we cannot cancel it!’ Thomas said angrily.

`OK, but we need to take someone who is an expert in these’, Emma said, thinking vaguely of someone in the village.

`We are already taking someone’, Jean said, a grin spreading across his face.

`Who?’ snapped Emma.

`You’, Jean said, his smile getting wider, `You know so much, and your baby-sitter priest should have taught you something!’

`Yeah, well to test my knowledge the priest gave the responsibility to me when a man’s house was smelling of rotten meat and that meant that there is demonic activities in the house and after about 6 tries and 2 weeks, I could get the house de-demonic. And there was this woman who always complained but no one ever cared about her because her complains were silly. So when she complained about movements, the priest knew she couldn’t lie because she never did, and then he told me to take care of it and I did it within 2 days! But- but- we cannot be stuck there for two whole days!’ Emma argued.

`Come on, she won’t come. We have to go on our own’, Thomas said, turning back.

`I didn’t say that- oh alright- I’m coming’, Emma said, finally giving up.

`Yippee!’ Jean shouted out loud like a small child, startling the other two.

Chapter 5: Halloween Night

Chapter Five: Halloween Night

Thomas lay awake in his bed, which was bathed in moonlight, Finally, he said to himself, finally, Halloween night is here.

Their plan was to wait for the signal from Thomas to get out of bed, and take their bags which was supposed to be packed from before, and get out of their house silently and meet at the cave mouth. The signal was supposed to be a big, loud but genuine `Meow’ from Thomas, and if anyone heard, they would think it was a stray cat. Thomas decided to do it a bit early, because the villagers slept very early. He looked at his watch. 9:00P.M. One more hour.

As Thomas lay in his bed for what seemed like hours, he was sure his watch was slow. But his wall clock said the exact same time. After some time, he got restless and went outside in the balcony to see the night. It was a gorgeous night. There was a huge full moon, which was shining as if it were the sun. The mountain was looking white and ghostly but magnificent. The nearby houses were looking like small Christmas presents around a Christmas tree, which was the mountain. Thomas felt like it was all a dream. He felt drowsy and saw the moon with heavy eyes. He knew he couldn’t sleep if he wanted to, but he thought he needed it. If in the cave he felt sleepy and had no energy, it would be a big mess. So, with the huge marvelous moon still swirling is his head, he came back to his bed and laid down there. His body was very heavy and as he fell asleep, he had an unknown happiness in his heart.

He and his friends, walking down the cave-- A small but spine-chilling tune-- a white figure in front of them-- The figure coming closer-- A girl in her sleeping dress-- Blood from her eyes--Thomas screaming---------

Thomas was breathing loudly, as he sat up in his bed and looked around. He just had a dream about what could be there in the cave. He quickly looked around at the clock. 9:35. Good.

He was sweating a lot and was still breathing heavily. Everything around him felt spooky. The moonlight was like the light coming from the girl’s sleeping dress, the trees that were visible from the window were like people with sharp teeth, and all in all, it was looking haunted. Thomas couldn’t stand it, and he went back to sleep. This time, he couldn’t sleep. There was an impatience in him. After
