about him?”
Gwen giggled, and put her arm around my shoulder in a half hug. “Soooooo,” she mused slowly next to my ear. “What if we were the ones doing the take down?”
So many mental images flashed through my mind of Alex getting what he’s got coming to him. I shook my head. “No,” I sighed against my will, my better judgement, and my pride. “Think of the trouble we’d get in if we did something to the prized ‘Teachers Pet.’”
“Well if he’s on Ms Pinckar’s bad side he can’t be all that prized, now, can he.” Gwen replied matter-of-factly. I saw her logic but couldn’t help thinking it was the teensiest bit flawed. Sure, Alex and Ms Pinckar were having a ‘tiff’ right now, but I bet, if not tomorrow, then sometime over the next week, everything will be just as it never happened. Of course though, I didn’t tell Gwen this.
A car horn interrupted my thoughts. My mum was waiting for us in our new silver Statesman on the curb. “Hurry up.” She shouted from the window.
Gwen and I hurried to the car and got in as fast as we could before my mum could get any more irritated and avoiding my little sister’s poked out tongue and snarky comments about me always being slow. When we were finally out of the school grounds, and halfway down the road and Gwen was happily humming along to a song on the radio, I took the time to rethink what Gwen had said moments before. And smiled.
The longer I thought about it, the more my conscience and better judgement ebbed away. He did have it coming to him. And who knows, maybe we could even get some of the other students to pitch in to help – well, that and to alleviate a little of the blame off Gwen and myself if we are to be caught. Plus, there’s no harm in a little playful retaliation, is there?
What can I say? Gwen really did have a plan for everything. That and she really knew how to make me feel better.
I turned to Gwen and tapped her shoulder.
“I’m in.” I whispered with a wink. “What do we need to do?”
