impression." I huffed and turned off my lamp. I heard Jacob's laughter fade into nothing and that was when I knew he was gone. I ighed contentedly and fell asleep almost immediatly, dreaming of alternate dimensions where people like Jacob and me could be together.


Chapter 3

I woke up the next morning with a start. My alarm clock was beeping like it was possessed by the Devil and when I rolled over to turn it off, I was not surprised to see that I was already 10 minutes late for school. I rushed out of bed looking around expectantly for Jacob as I hurried into the bathroom and was disappointed and confused to see that he wasn't there. I brushed my long, brown hair and washed my face, thanking God that I had clear skin. I pulled on my hideous uniform, buttoning up my white collared shirt and wrestling into my cardigan ad I rushed down the stairs and into the breakfast room where a note from my mother was waiting for me. It read: "Dear Andy, we're shooting a scene off-set today. Had to leave early. I'll be back before dinner. Love you, Mom. P.S. Try not to be late on your first day." 'Too late for that' I grumbled as o crumpled up the note, grabbed a banana and rushed out the door to my waiting sedan. I slid into my seat in homeroom barely 5 minutes before the end of the period.  My teacher, Mr. Garbon was an elderly man, unmarried and bitter.  The second I walked through the door, all eyes were on me and he didn't make it better.  "So, our new student from Maine is here, how nice.  Well, Miss Annabelle, what exactly possessed you to enter class 25 minutes late?  Did you just get off the plane?" He asked, fakely sympathetic.  There were a few snickers around me from my fellow classmates.  "Feminine problems," I answered in a stage whisper.  Mr. Garbon blushed bright red and responded "I see," quietly, erasing a mark in his binder.  He cleared his throat and released us to read for the now 2 minutes left until the bell rang and I smiled, triumphant. Before I even got out of the room, I was approached by 2 blonde cheerleader-types, way too peppy to be normal.
