he possessed.

Bonnie lay on her back, her arm thrown above her head. A flash of a pale breast peeked above the nightgown she wore. His cock pulsed, further proving that his life was precarious at best.

He slowly brought his hand down, covering Bonnie's mouth.

She jolted, opening her eyes. He muffled her scream against his palm, making sure no noise got past her bedroom door.

He put his lips on her ear. "It's Trip. You're okay. I'm not going to hurt you."

She struck out with her hands, grabbing his vest, pushing him. He ignored her struggle. She could still breathe. All she had to do was calm down.

"I'll uncover your mouth if you hold still."

She let go of him. Her nostrils flared, breathing hard, but she stopped moving.

"Don't wake the kids," he whispered.

She tried to nod. He slowly took his hand off her mouth.

"What are you doing?" she whispered.

"I had to talk to you."

She scrambled into a sitting position and slapped out him in the chest. "Have you ever heard of knocking?"

"Quiet." He sat down on the bed. "I've got news."

"About?"

"Speeder."

She tugged the front of her nightgown higher. "He's okay, isn't he?"

"He's home."

Okay was an idiosyncratic way to describe what was going on. Speeder struggled with the changes going on in his body and in his brain, as they all were battling the foreign behavior happening to them.

Until signs of their programing not working correctly showed up, he, like the others, gave no thought to what the Alpha Bio Project was doing to them. Their past meant nothing.

Except, the program couldn't wipe out the thought process they'd created in each of them. When a problem came up, they were trained to take care of it in the fastest way possible.

But all problems came from outside sources. Never from within. Until now.

"I'm going to take Trina home when she wakes up," he said.

Her gaze narrowed. "Why doesn't Speeder pick her up?"

Unsure why that would send up red flags for her, he ignored the question. Now that the mission on bringing Speeder home was complete, exhaustion hit him. After he dropped Trina off with her dad, he needed to go to the clubhouse and check in with the others.

Avery Falls wouldn't run itself.

She reached over and picked up her cell phone. "I have to work in two hours. I'll drop Trina off at her house."

"No, I'll take her." The fewer people around Speeder right now, the better.

She pulled the blanket up, covering her breasts. "You need to leave."

"I'm waiting until she wakes up."

Awkwardly scooting off the bed, dragging the blanket with her, she said, "How did you get in the house? I locked the door."

There wasn't a lock or door that could keep him out. "I needed to talk to you."

She glanced at him. He couldn't look away. Her hair, normally falling straight past her shoulders, was now wavy and fluffed out around her head. He liked it both ways. Though, seeing her was doing something for him.

It wasn't his body signaling it needed release. It was telling him how he should be feeling.

"Do you feel that, too?" He stayed on the bed.

She turned from the dresser. "What?"

From her answer, she hadn't. He wanted her to know what was going through him.

Standing up, he walked across the room and stood in front of her. He slipped his hand between the opening of the blanket and pressed his palm against her chest.

She jerked away. He stayed with her, pressing her against the wall. Under her struggles to get away, he could feel it.

Her heart hammered against his palm.

A ragged breath escaped his mouth. He lifted his gaze, connecting with her. The need to have sex stronger than normal.

"Stop." She slapped his arm, breathing heavily.

She crossed her arms and clasped her shoulders with her hands, keeping him from touching her chest. "You need to leave."

He backed away when all he wanted to do was discover what was happening to him. Everything seemed to center around Bonnie when he was with her. The urges, fed with a desire, never happened the entire time he searched for Speeder. Only when he was back with her.

"Please, you have to leave." She yanked a shirt out of the closet and held it in front of her. "I'll bring Trina to her father."

He wasn't ready to go. "Bonnie—"

"No, Trip." She edged toward the door. "You're scaring me."

"I'm not going to hurt you."

"You need to leave now before you wake the kids." She opened the door and mouthed, "Please."

"I need to see you again," he whispered. "When?"

"I don't know." She shook her head. "Not here."

"At The Shack. This afternoon." He walked past her and left the room, navigating around Zach on the floor, and slipped out the front door, closing it silently behind him.

Sprinting away from the house, he tried to outrun the feelings Bonnie brought out in him. He had one purpose.

For now, he needed to make sure the controller remained oblivious to the slips happening within him. He and the others needed time to figure out what went wrong and what would happen to them once the CIA found out.

Chapter Thirteen

Johnny came into The Shack after being gone all morning. Bonnie finished putting the battery on the charger and looked at her boss.

Hair windblown and his whiskers halfway to becoming a full beard, Johnny rubbed his eyes.

"Hard weekend?" She hung the cords up on the hook.

"Something like that." He moved one of the mountain bikes and walked over to the desk, sitting in the chair. "How're rentals?"

"The two bikes that were out for twenty-four hours are back. We've had four others rented for day use." She stepped over and pointed at the register. "I've taken six phone calls for reservations for next month. On the twenty-third, we're going to have only the mountain bikes available. A party of eight put a deposit down for every single e-bike we have."

Johnny grunted in approval. She grinned, knowing, like everyone else, he was surprised at the interest in electric bikes.

"Good deal."
