“You must run,” she rasps.
“Is it the Savage Beasts?” I breathe. She tilts her head, furrowing her brows in confusion. “Big men, leather vests, really fucking scary looking?”
Her eyes widen even more as she nods her head a couple of times. “They’re terrifying.”
“Those are my friends,” I grin.
Hurrying toward her, she stands to the side to let me pass, but grabs a hold of my arm before I can slip past her. Stopping, I tilt my chin down to look at her. She presses her lips together, her body trembling as she watches me for a moment.
“Be safe and well,” she whispers.
“Slip out the back. Whatever it takes, just go and never look back,” I say, giving her the best and only piece of advice that I have to give her.
She nods her head. Her eyes searching mine for a moment before she releases my arm and slips away from me and down the hallway. I start to run toward the staircase, ready to descend and make my way to my man, when I hear a voice that I don’t recognize.
“He has them here, find them all, round them up.”
There is some male grunting, but as I look around downstairs, my gaze catches the back of one of the jackets in the light. They have white stitching just like the Savage Beasts, except it isn’t theirs.
Walking backward, I decide that I cannot be found by these men, I don’t know who they are, but they are not my men. Backing up, I reach behind me for a doorknob and twist it.
The door is locked, and I spin around, flipping the deadbolt that holds it in place. It has to be Taylee’s room. I’m not going in there, no way in hell, but if I can get her out of there and somewhere maybe safe-ish, then I’m going to try.
“What is happening?” a soft voice whispers.
It’s in this exact moment that I realize I’ve never heard her voice before. She has a sheet wrapped around her much like I do. She looks behind me, then back to me. Shaking my head once, I get out of my mind and focus on the situation at hand.
“I thought they were Hawk’s men.”
“They aren’t, are they?” she breathes.
“I don’t know who the fuck they are,” I hiss. “But I’ll be damned if we’re locked in this room waiting like animals for slaughter.”
She nods her head, then hurries toward me. Without another word, we start to rush down the hallway. There is no way that we can go downstairs without being seen, especially since we look like the toga twins with our sheets wrapped around us.
I don’t want to go into a closet, I really fucking don’t, but I find the upstairs hall linen closet and I inhale a deep breath. Shoving Taylee inside, I breathe a sigh of relief when I realize it has a doorknob on the inside of the door as well as the outside.
Climbing in behind her, I hear heavy boot steps coming up the staircase just as I close the door. We scoot as far back as we can, and I realize that the maid doesn’t know that these guys may not be our friends. I feel extremely guilty for possibly sending her away without realizing that I could have sent her into complete and total danger.
“I’m sorry,” Taylee whispers.
Biting the inside of my cheek, I almost don’t even ask her why, but I need to. This could be our last moments on earth, I need to know what she’s sorry for.
“For what?” I ask.
She doesn’t say anything immediately, then I hear her inhale a slow, deep, breath. “I’m sorry. I know that man is your man. I’m sorry I had sex with him.”
I’m so close to laughing, that I actually have to bite the inside of my cheek to keep myself from bursting out.
“Never apologize or feel bad for anything that has happened to you here. He’s my man, but he’s no saint. I know that this wasn’t some affair, this is a terrible fucking nightmare and I’m ready to forget this shit ever happened.”
I reach out, taking her hand in mine, and I squeeze her for support. There is a noise just outside of the closet door and I know, I just know they’re going to wrench it open and see us sitting here holding hands in our sheets.
Sucking in a breath, I lift my gaze to the door and I stare straight ahead, focusing and waiting to see what happens next. I can’t even blink.
HAWK
I hear what sounds like a small explosion of some sort upstairs. Fuck me, they’re finally here. It’s been at least a week, maybe more, the days have all blurred together, but finally my men have arrived.
There are loud shouts upstairs and I just hope that someone takes the initiative to search the place and fucking starts down here. Reaching for my shoes, I quickly tug my boots on, smooth out my dirty clothes and wait.
And wait.
And wait.
Then it happens. I hear the door slam open, except I don’t see who I expect walking toward me, wearing a shit-eating grin.
“I guess I should be glad you’re not the goddamn Donkey Punchers,” I grumble. “But you’re still fucking terrible.”
The man throws his head back in a deep booming chuckle. “I come all the way the fuck over here, make Molotov Cocktails all day, and this is the thanks I get?” he asks.
I snort. “Where are my brothers?” I demand with a growl.
“You know I’m your brother now, don’t you?” he asks.
Arching a brow, I refuse to answer that. I actually like Bones as a person, but the Sinister Skulls will never be my full brothers, patched over or not.
Bones rolls his eyes to the ceiling, then brings them back to meet mine. “They realized they needed backup. This
