list of people I couldtruly trust with my life, my heart, and even my soul. And who knew, maybe, justmaybe, there was a certain demon prince that I could add, as well. Time wouldtell.

Epilogue

Price

Sweat drenched my T-shirt, making it clinguncomfortably. I was almost ready to pull my jeans off, even though I'd get amassive sunburn, and dig in just my shirt. I also regretted turning down Mal'soffer to help.

Still, this was something I probably needed to domyself. Maybe I should have waited until sundown and a full moon?

Stop bitching, Price, you're the idiot who buried allyour shit in a crate on the mountainside.

I went back to digging.

No one would disturb me up here. It was privateproperty and remote enough that it wasn't common to even get random hikers.

Still, I paused when my shoulder blades itched likesomeone was watching me.

I shielded my eyes and looked around, though all Icould see in the hazy desert heat was an equine form. Usually, the horsebackriders rode earlier to avoid the heat and it didn't look like this horse had arider.

Maybe it was lost?

I put my shovel down, climbed out of the hole I'd dug,and turned back toward the apparition. Wavy in the heat, much like I imagined amirage would be, the horse lowered its head and pawed at the ground.

I took a step forward and it threw its head up,turned, and bolted. I assumed the flaming mane and tail affect was due to theheat and possible dehydration, but it was clear, if there was actuallysomething there and not my mind playing tricks on me, that there was no way Iwas catching that horse.

Shrugging, I took a long drink of water from a jug Ihad nearby and went back to digging.

The metallic thunk of my shovel hitting one of the twochests I'd buried all of my occult tools and books in distracted me completelyfrom what I'd seen.

Renewed enthusiasm fueled my limbs as I uncovered thelast of the large crates. I'd pull them out with my car. They were heavy, though I could lift them into the back seat and trunk on my own.

I'd get everything back down to my place, get togetherwith Mal, and see about getting Sabian back. Surprisingly, even Aaron wasonboard with this plan. Then we'd have to start working toward preparing forwhatever else was coming at us, because Mal was right. Something was coming. Icould feel it down to my very core. And it wasn't going to be friendly.
