that makes our wacky friendship stronger

I Like You
Roses are red they look pretty
when they bloom and you know
I’m telling the truth.
The sky and violets will always be
some kind of blue and what that says is true
and what it also says is i want
no one else but you.
From all this I’m just trying to
say that I like you.
Trapped
Trapped in a place where I don’t belong.
Always the eyeball at my family gatherings
“you’re too white for our black family” they say.
Constantly fighting with myself since I’m trying not
to be the person they expect of me.
But is me trying to please them destroying me entirely.
Looking in the mirror to see that the
person looking at me Isn’t me bout truly a cover-up.
I’m trapped in this body and don’t
have the courage to accept.
Deep
I just want to show gratitude for those colored people who paved the way for me.
You thought taking our education and beating us would bring us down.
While you guys doing it to us were wrong.
Even though we made mostly everything in the world or helped, they never give us
Credit by saying the black guy was the first to make it or discover it.
Like Dorothy Dandridge, Madam Cj Walker, Josephine Baker.
I want to learn about these people in my history book at school.
Because they don’t want to give credit where credit is due.
They try to make it like the food chain where the white
people are the producers and the black people are the nasty bacteria.
This is all I’m saying is you guys need to stop cheating us
out of our month and telling us lies.
Because if it was some other races month we would be doing something
that week but now that it’s us we are forced to wait until March.
Ying & Yang
You are my yang to my yin
When I’m down you help me up.
But it’s difficult to be cool when
We live in two different worlds.
You’re a wealthy white guy from the other
side of town.
And I’m just a black girl trying to survive in the
ghetto.
When I see your face I know that my day is going to
Be okay.
I know when your around I can make it through anything.
