and stared at her. Skye shrugged.
“What do you mean? I’m not acting differently.” She replies defensively. Skye rolls her eyes internally and picks at her cake trying not to make any eye contact with her mother from then on. After finishing her cake she stands, grabs her bag and proceeds in walking towards the door calling goodbye to her mother and Tami. Trey soon joins her walking rather closely.
“Is there something going on between you and your mom?” He asks concerned. Skye shakes her head and kicks at the pebble in front of her feet.
“I mean we’re not having any problems but there’s something weird going on. Like I would say something to her that we needed in the house and it would just appear. Seriously, just appear out of nowhere and she doesn’t even leave to go to the store. She just…never mind you wouldn’t understand Trey.” She says after a while stopping to look at him. There was concern in his gaze as she peered deep into his eyes. They looked so familiar warm and caring and it soothed her suspicions. Trey rested his hand on her shoulder and tilted his head to meet hers.
“It’s ok honey, your mother is just protective and-” He stopped in mid-sentence noticing what he’d just called her. Skye blushed and looked away.
“Honey?” She whispered shyly. In her mind that was considered a ‘first move’ and she picked up her pace in walking trying to hide her humungous grin. Trey didn't speak to her for the rest of the walk but he kept close to her in the case of any danger approaching. They saw Tami and Josh speeding by in his SUV with music blaring from it. Tamitha waved at them and was smiling from ear to ear. She gave Skye the ‘did you kiss’ kind of look but to Skye’s disappointment it didn’t happen.
