The car came to a screeching halt. Two men bolted out. Louis instantly identified the one who had taken him into custody the first time. The officer was the one, who along with his partner that day, that struck him with their batons. Before Louis could say a word in defense they tackled him to the ground and began to beat him about the body with the batons.
Louis fought back by throwing up his arms to deflect the blows. He shouted “listen” to the officers trying to beat him into submission. Louis caught one of the batons in his hand as it came down fiercely and twisted it out of the officer’s grip and flung it well beyond the reach of the aggressive officer. The other baton kept on pounding away as fists now entered the fracas.
Louis struck out with tightly closed fists. He managed to get to his knees and wrestle both officers to the ground. With pure rage, Louis found the strength to subdue the violent actions but the officers countered with all the strength they could muster. As the three rolled around the ground Louis could hear mumblings coming from the crowd, but no one stepped forward to help him against the officers that finally had him securely handled.
“Please stop,” Louis screamed as he fought against the hold on the officers. “Can’t you see what you are doing? Can’t you recognize why you are doing this?”
But it was no use. The officers, fighting in unison, had definitely gained the advantage. Louis was pinned down. One of the officers had him secured in a choke hold while the other twisted his arms behind the back.
More sirens screamed out their impending approach. Louis tried desperately to shout out to the attackers, but the words were choked off from the arm tightening around the throat.
Cars were heard screeching to a sudden stop. More officers ran over and joined the scuffle. They jumped on Louis with knees and elbows. Officers wildly kicked at him, threw punches, and beat him with batons on any body area not covered by the throng of officers.
Louis would not yield. He fought them the best he could, but finally they had complete control over the situation. Straps were secured to his ankles and legs. Cuffs were slapped o the wrists. A gag was tied around the mouth. He was lifted up and slung into the back of a car. The car raced away.
The officers delivered Louis to a location he recognized. They pulled him out by the feet. He plopped belly first to the ground and was dragged inside and tossed onto a table.
Louis turned his head to see a man smiling while walking up to him. “How did you ever escape from the repatriation camp?” The man ripped the gag off his mouth.
Louis struggled with an answer. He did not want to expose the brothers that whisked him away from the torment, and he did not want to make up a lie. Now knowing if he said what he wanted to say, it would lead to more punishment and misery, but he found he just could not live by the lies anymore.
“My Lord helped me.”
“Louis, can you just say something for me?”
“What?”
The man smiled. “Say bye-bye.”
“But I want to tell….”
Louis shrieked as a needle was jabbed into the neck.
Slowly the chemical flooded the mind and body.
“Louis, the good news is we are not going to kill you. The bad news is that you are going to wish you we did kill you because your own mind will torture you relentlessly.”
The chemicals reacted instantly with the mind and silenced any remaining words he had hoped to convey. A deep and penetrating need for sleep was overwhelming. Louis fell unconscious.
