10-year cycle of work. After that, he would most likely be re-assigned to something completely different.
“You are not saying very much today, are you Mikael?” He had been dreaming again, totally ignoring Jenna. Stupid! Stupid!
"Oh sorry Jenna, it's a weird day today." He looked at her and quickly turned away as he found himself looking right in her lovely eyes. "I was thinking about how strange it is that everything is now changing. In a few weeks I´ll be getting my first assignment."
He shrugged his shoulders. "Some how I am really looking forward to it, or at least I was. No more school and all. And at the same time I don't want things to change." It was odd, he had never opened up like this to Jenna. They often walked home from school, talked, but it never really got very personal.
His heart started pounding as he felt her hand grabbing hold of his, fingers interlocking. If his face got any redder, he was sure the only thing left was to explode. Was this really happening?
"Mikael?... Do you think... do you think we can remain friends?" she was still whispering. Now that he looked at her, her cheeks were much more pink that usual as well.
He gathered up his whole but limited supply of bravado and looked her in the eyes again. He even managed not to look away. Speaking was another matter though, his tongue was suddenly as dry as the road they were walking on.
