This is a short story about a girl (written in first-person point of view). She lives in a futuristic nation with her family where everything is a beach. The government replaced all houses and roads (to the joy of some and devastation of others) with beaches. She hangs out with her e-bot and older brother.

Taking the subway is an adventure. The stops are predictable and mapped but the people who might come and go are not. The riders help form the pulse of what makes the city move. They are all cells riding through the veins of an elaborate system.

"Two days ago, I was rescued from a merciless metropolis by a man looking for strong leaders. He said I'd be ready by the time... Now that city is gone."

The wild goose chase began when Rachel received a mysterious phone call that wasn't even meant for her. Upon hearing that her friend was in trouble, deep trouble, shy timid, Rachel is convinced that she is mean to save her. At least, for a minute or so. With the help and encouragement from her foolish younger brother and the nicest boy she knows, Rachel sets of on a journey she has no idea will change her life.
