Prologue
“Pugh, typical,” a tom mewed.
“Metalclaw, we went through this. Starmew and Mudfoot aren’t going to let us destroy the group!” another cat mewed.
“Whatever, Firelight, Just because you’re Lake’s Great Uncle, it doesn’t mean you can defend her,” Metalclaw growled.
“Silence!” said a cat, with a flick of his tail, “Starmew is here. And unlike you, we have things to discuss.” The cat locked eyes with Metalclaw who nodded slowly.
“Now,” said a shining cat entering, “I, Starmew, leader of Starclan, ask of you…”
Chapter 1
“Okay, I have some mice,” said Lake, nudging over 2 limp mice. Ever since her group was captured, Lake, her kit, Stream, and an apprentice from her group, Cosmic, have been living off whatever they could find after escaping. They’ve been lucky enough to be unnoticed.
“Thanks, Lake,” Cosmic mewed, eating the mouse in little bites.
Stream chewed a little of the scraps Cosmic had. Although he couldn’t eat solid food, he decided to anyway.
“What do we do now?” Stream mewed.
“I don’t know yet,” Cosmic said.
“Right,” Lake murmured, “Lets sit here until we die of hunger,”
Stream looked at her with big moon eyes.
“Lake doesn’t mean it Stream,” Cosmic said, shooting a glare at Lake. Lake sneered at Cosmic before chewing the rest of her kill. They decided to set off, and by nightfall, they made it to a farm. They laid in the straw inside the barn, and made some noise. As soon as they closed their eyes, someone cried,
“Whose there?!”A black and white tom said
“Yes, who!” An older tom said.
“We’re just travelers,” Cosmic meowed sleepily, “The kit is Stream and the She-Cat is Lake. Who are you?”
“Why, I’m Ravenpaw,” black and white tom said, “And this is my friend, Barley.
Chapter 2
“Barley and Ravenpaw?” Cosmic echoed, “Ravenpaw sounds like a clan name. Barley sounds like a loner or a rouge name. Am I right?”
“Yep,” Barley said, “Ravenpaw had to leave his clan after the deputy, Tigerclaw, was going to kill him,”
“Tigerstar now, Barley. Thank Starclan he's dead.
“That’s so sad,” Lake said, walking over to Ravenpaw. She sat by him, while Cosmic talked to Barley about the life of a Loner.
“So,” Lake mewed to Ravenpaw, “How are you doing ever since you left your clan?”
“I’m okay,” said Ravenpaw slightly. Lake leaned on Ravenpaw and Ravenpaw leaned on Lake. Ravenpaw lay down and curled up in a ball next to Lake, and she did the same. Together they lay, peacefully, and undisturbed for the rest of the day. Until a rouge burst in through the gates in the barn.
“Well, well, well,” the Rouge sneered, “Look what we have. A kit, two weaklings, and Barley, and Ravenpaw. Who are these two, FRIENDS?”
“No one, Maroon,” Barley growled, “But they could easily fight you off.
We could? Lake wondered
“Yeah,” Cosmic growled pridefully, “You can’t lay a paw on this Kit or it’s mother without losing your tail!”
“We’ll see!” Maroon cried, and threw himself on top of Cosmic. Cosmic kicked him off while also gripping Maroon’s tail, pulling him down and clawing his ear.
“Raaaaaggg!” Maroon growled, and scratched Cosmic’s paw pitifully.
“Wow,” Cosmic said, “You fight terrible. Run along now, little kit.” With that, Cosmic used all his strength to claw Maroon out the door.
“That was amazing, Cosmic. Why weren’t you made a defender?” Lake asked.
“I’m not sure,” Cosmic mewed.
“Well, here, I, Lake of The Group, tell everyone that Cosmic will be known Meteor.” Barley and Ravenpaw looked at Meteor with wide eyes, and Stream mewed happily.
“Thank you,” Meteor mewed, “I think it’s time we’ve been going.”
“Yes, we must be going. Thanks for your hospitality,” Lake mewed.
“See you later,” Ravenpaw said as Lake, Meteor, and Stream walked out the barn door. Before they were even halfway gone, Ravenpaw came running out to them.
“What is it?” Meteor mewed.
“I…Want to come with you!” Ravenpaw mewed.
Chapter 3
“Okay, I made the nest!” The sound of Ravenpaw's cry rang in Lake's ears. She sat up and padded to Ravenpaw. The nest was fairly nice, full of fur and feathers.
“Thanks...” Lake mewed tiredly. She sat down in the nest and fell asleep.
***
Lake awoke to the sound of a bird. She looked around, startled to see the lush green grass.
Lake stiffed a yawn and tasted the air. It smelt of pine and the faint smell of vole. Lake dropped down. She slithered through the grass and bit the voles neck. As the Vole's neck snapped, she saw a warrior walk towards her. His pelt was orange, and his eyes shone. Another warrior joined him, a black cat with muddy brown paws.
“Mudfoot,” Lake nodded towards the black tom, “Firelight,” Lake locked eyes with the orange warrior.
“What is it that you want?” she mewed, irritated.
“We want you to believe in Starclan again,” Mudfoot mewed, “Do you not believe in Starclan?”
“It's not that. You Starclan warriors abandoned me and my clan. I was disbursted and forged some rouges and loners.”
“We never abandoned you!” Firelight cried.
Lake looked at him sadly, “Is it about time I woke up?”
“Enough, Firelight. Young cats believe they know everything. Lets go.” Mufoot said, and together the cats walked into the distance.
Lake shook her head and awoke. Meteor was curled up to Ravenpaw's back, and Stream's neck was in Ravenpaw's paws, but he was just sleeping, not being crushed by Ravenpaw's massive paws. Lake shooked the three.
“What?!” Meteor snapped. Lake backed up at his sterness.
Meteor held his paws away from each other, and the gap was the length of a whisker, “I was chasing a mouse and it was this close!”
Lake and Ravenpaw chuckled. Lake picked up Stream by his scruff and lower him onto her back, “Okay, lets go.”
