It was a hot summer day when Logan received a phone call from her best friend, Annie. Annie and Logan had been best friends since Kindergarten, where they met in Mrs. Mint’s class. Though in second grade Logan moved across town and was forced to switch schools. Logan and Annie missed each other very much, so they made a pledge that they would see each other every other weekend. This weekend it was Annie’s turn to invite Logan over. Though this weekend was special! Annie invited Logan to come to a waterhole that was called Cascade Flats. Annie and Logan were especially excited because it had been raining all week though this weekend was sunny and 80 degrees.
As Logan watched the window waiting for Annie to pull up Logan’s mom warned her, “The water might be higher and faster with all the rain we’ve had this week.” Logan assured her mom she would be careful. But both Logan and Annie were both soon to forget...
As Annie pulled up Logan jumped into the car. And to Logan's surprise sat two hot dogs. One was Teddy and the other was Domino. Teddy was Annie's dog and Domino was Annie's cousin's dog. Annie's family baby-sat for Domino quite often. Annie had one older brother named Chris; he some times tended to complain. The whole car ride he was complaining about how he hated swimming. Annie's dad was named David and he LOVED fishing, which he was going to do at the waterhole. Annie's mom was named Terri she was short and outgoing. As they pulled up to waterhole, first thing Logan and Annie saw was a small water fall leading into the waterhole. They both smiled as they ran down the trail. As they reached the beach, Annie remembered, "Last time we were here the water fall wasn't here." Logan looked at the waterfall " That’s weird, it must have been the melting snow then" said Logan.
"But it's the middle of August, and anyway the mountains aren’t high enough to still hold snow." Logan gasped, "Then it must have been all the rain we've had this week." Annie gasped, " Wow, though we did have a lot of rain this week." Annie’s mom walked over, "What are you guys still standing here for? Don't you want to swim?" Logan and Annie looked at each other and smiled "This is what summer is about!" said Logan as they ran to the water.
In the water stood a rock wall where the girls walked on though it didn't stretch all the way across river. "Lets get across the river! Said Annie. "Ok I'll go first" said Logan. But as she started to jump of the wall, the river caught Logan's feet and all the sudden Logan found herself being carried down the river. Logan, figuring out that the current was to strong to swim against called, "Help!" as the river carried her down. Logan was a strong swimmer but not even Michael Phelps could swim against this current.
Annie panicking on the wall quickly looked around to see if Logan could grab anything, then she saw it. Fallen tree stretched along part of the river and it was right in Logan's reach. "Grab the log!" Cried Annie. Quickly Logan spotted it and reached for the log just grabbing it. Annie turned to the beach and cried out, "Mom, mom, help!" Terri looked up and saw the worry on Annie's face but didn't seem to see Logan.
"Where's Logan?" Called Terri. "The river is taking Logan down, but she managed to reach for a log!" Cried Annie. Terri quickly got up and ran onto the wall. Now she could see Logan. Logan was in pain, her legs were bleeding and her arms were getting tired of holding on the log. "Everything is going to be Ok!" Terri yelled. "Have you tried swimming to the wall?" "The water is to fast" said Logan getting more and more tired. "Then there's only one thing to do I'll get in and swim you to safety." Said Terri. as she jumped in she realized that the current was strong and all the sudden she started to panic and at the top of her lungs she yelled "HELP!!!!!!" The people on the beach didn't hear it, the only ones who did... was the dogs.
On the edge of the beach was a trail; Domino realized it and Teddy always fallowing Domino got on the trail with Domino. As the dogs reached the end of the trail, they realized they couldn't reach them and started to cry. Mean while Logan was reaching for Terri's hand as she was being carried by the water and thankfully grabbed Logan's hand. And as she pulled Annie's mom to safety, Logan heard the dogs crying, and spotted the trail. "We can climb over the rocks to safety!" But as Logan and Terri were looking up at the dogs Annie was getting in, thinking they were still in trouble as Logan turned around she saw Annie jumping in, quickly Logan grabbed the stick and did the same thing Logan did to save Annie's mom.
Luckily Annie grabbed the stick and was saved before Terri could turn around. By the time Terri realized that Annie was with them they were already on the trail. "Annie!" Terri said surprised "Keep walking!" Said Annie smiling.
By the time they reached the beach everyone was bleeding and exhausted. "I'm sorry I panicked " said Terri
For the rest of the day the girls were very carful and they also learned a important lesson. "I guess this is what summer is about!" said Logan, they all laughed and for the rest of the summer Annie and Logan were very cautions when it came to water!
