An Amusing Start

Trevor gathered the last of his firewood, then threw a lit match in to start the campfire. He went back inside and called up the group for the usual fun activity.
“Hey Grant, its Trevor. Come over at 7 PM, Thanks. Bye.”
“Hi Jane, its Trevor. Come over at 7 maybe? Thanks.”
“Jack! It’s Trevor. Come over at 7? Thanks dude.”
“Greetings, Ally. It’s just me, Trevor. Come over at 7 please, Thanks.”
“Yo Todd! Come Hang at 7, thanks. Peace!”
As Trevor waited, he prepared marshmallows on a stick, and poured a bag of chips on aluminum foil. He stepped back outside, holding a wooden roaster. It’s features held two pieces of wood connecting with a stick in the middle that lifted a short rope. This object is used for cooking over the fire. Not a stove. Over the real fire.
The doorbell rang several times, and Trevor ran into the house, opening the door. “ Hey guys! Just in time,” he spoke, panting for a couple of minutes. “Come in, come in!” Everyone had shown up. “Hey Lee, where’s your family?” Grant asked. “There up in Greece, taking a vacation.” Trevor replied. They went into the backyard and sat on the logs near the campfire. “Why didn’t they take you with them?” Allison joined in. Todd and Jack agreed by nodding.
“They said I cause trouble,” he said, putting the roaster over the fire. “and that they need a break from me.”
“That’s just messed up like corn.” Jack added. The others stared at him straight in the eye about how corn was messed up. “What?” Jane asked mockingly.
“Guys, guys. I got some food inside, any of you want some?” Trevor quickly changed the subject, then went inside.
“I wonder what’s for meal tonight!” Todd licked his lips.
”Hope it ain’t ‘em corn again.” Jack said. If you want to know, Jack was influenced by the farmers who lived across him. The rest of the group giggled.
“What the cow’s wrong with y’all?” Jack felt offended and ran inside by the time Trevor was carefully walking outside, hoping not to spill any of the food he had prepared.
“What happened to him?” He pointed to Jack through the windows. Jack was watching the Redneck channel on TV. There was a burst of silence while Trevor put the food on the roaster.
Wow! The aroma scattered everywhere. Fresh baked beans, roasted marshmallows, chicken and barbecue. Don’t forget about the chips, too.
Everyone saw Jack peek out at the food from the window for probably five minutes, then he came outside with plates for everyone. A big “thanks” from the group came to Jack, and they lined up getting their plates.

The Next Day...

The sound of Trevor's alarm clock awakened him. He looked at the time.

7:15 am

Trevor's LATE for school!! He put on a tee and jeans, and slipped on a pair of shoes. He made a quick glance around his room to make sure he had everything. Trevor carried his bag, grabbed his skateboard and rushed out of the house.
