The true story about Chavushjan

Alexander Kiparisovich Chavushjan's father was a kind of ideological Armenian - a French communist who has arrived in a due time to the USSR, married a Russian woman and remained to live in Yerevan. They lived in usual Soviet living-building where many cords have been stretcheв from a balcony to a balcony on which female breeches of parachute sizes (as Chavushjan said - "toombuns") were dried. It is natural that the soul of Chavushjan was constantly torn to France which he wildly idealised. Being trained at historical faculty of the Moscow State University Alexander Kiparisovich has considerably improved the knowledge of the French language, and on the fourth year began to study independently the Romanian. Anybody did not understand, for what reason it was necessary for him. However smart Chavushjan bored far-reaching plans. It is necessary to tell that during this period we constantly quarrelled with him and did not talk. Usually he renewed our dialogue, sitting at a table d'hote and casually dropping any general phrase of type: "Give me a salt". After that silence was considered broken, and we necessarily began dialogue. On the fifth year we just stayed in a situation of non-speaking. Once in the evening, trying to come into a toilet of our living block, I have come across the person who stood inside and, without having closed a door on a latch, was wetted. It was Chavushjan who has discontentedly told to me: "E-e-e!" . These were last words which I have heard from him that time on the Russian earth. Soon after that Chavushjan has visited shop of GUM and has bought there a children's rubber ring as he was badly able to float. Having thoroughly prepared thus, he has got on a train and has gone on the Soviet-Romanian border which before he already visited on a purpose of investigation. Having reached river the Proot dividing Romania and the USSR, Chavushjan has inflated a circle and, being noticed by nobody, has crossed the river directly under a boundary tower and has left to Romania. He wandered on this country, eliciting from peasants any bread in broken Romanian language and has reached border with Yugoslavia by miracle. It is needless to say that an ultimate goal of his travel was France. However on the Yugoslavian border artful Romanian shepherds have given him to drink wine and when he has laid under a bush being very drunk, ten Romanian special troops armed cap-á-pie have jumped out on him. The deserter have forwarded in the Bucharest prison where the Romanian security service "Sigoorantsa" tortured him as a Soviet spy. In reply to this Chavushjan arranged many hunger-strikes, throwing out bowls with a prison soup back in a feeding trough, crying out on all prison expensive slogans: "Chaushesku - fucking bastard!". At last, unlucky soviet spy have transferred to the USSR, in KGB in the city of Odessa, whence to us the anxious employees began to come to the Moscow State University and to interrogate our Komsomol heads whether they knew something about plans of Chavushjan. As a result Chavushjan was placed in a madhousehas, but when "perestroika" has begun, he became, in certain respects, a political prisoner and so has been released to France - to his distant Armenian relatives. He has sent la ast letter to me from a small town located in vicinities of Lyon, where he worked as the watchman at factory on manufacture of lighters and was, judging by his letter, quite happy.
Alexander Kiparisovich Chavushjan has died in 1999.
