Forever in Me

A true friend is someone that sees and encourages the best in us. It could be anyone like you mom, sister, brother, or even a friend. We each have that one person that we can talk to and that keeps our secrets. A true friend is someone you have known you whole life and no matter what they do it never effects you relationship or how you feel for each other. Yes, someone like this is hard to come by because you think of you recent friends. Like the ones you hang out with a lot or your best friends. There is a difference between a true friend and a best friend. A best friend will look out for you. A true friend will forever be in you. The true friend I had was my sister Morgan, and here is why.

Like a sister always is, Morgan was always there for me. We were step-sisters but we never let that get between us. A sister is a sister no matter what. Even though I only saw her when I went down to my dads, we didn t care. We would play all day until we passed out; if we went outside out imagination went loose. We always were by each other s side and being by each others side spelled trouble. Getting in trouble with her was really fun because we never cared. For example, one weekend when I was staying the night, Morgan camed to me and wanted to take down the bunk beds. I believed her because she said she asked Heather and said it was ok. Now its like 3 o clock and Heather came in, upset because we didn t ask her if it was ok and the beds were already apart.  So from this I learned that she was always there if I ever needed her and no matter what I could always count on her.

The best thing she did for me was teach me from right and wrong. She had a very odd way of showing it. For example, Morgan would always get me in trouble. So, of course, I would have to stand in the corner or write a sentence over and over again. A lot of people would be mad if someone got them in trouble. Nope, not us. She would always come up to me and ask if I was ok. Then she would always tell me how to get out of being in trouble. The reason why she helped me is because I guess she felt sorry. Like the little sister I was, I always forgave her. I never regret forgiving her. She helped me with everything from speaking right to looking good. From someone like her it meant a lot to me.

Then everything changed when on August 8, 2001 our littlest sister Madison (Madz) was born. So Morgan and me grew closer together. We both loved Madz we taught her to be like us and picked on her a lot. Plus Morgan taught me to be a big sister but time always has a habit of ruining everything. Morgan and me were about 2 years apart in age. So as we grew up we didn t see much of each other. We never forgot about each other, because we loved every moment we had spent together. Before long she got married and graduated college, while I was still in high school. When I went to my dads, only Madz was there. So everything was different to me.

Like I said before, time always has a habit of ruining everything. So on January 17, 2013 Morgan was put into the hospital. During a 'routine' bronchoscope and sinus surgery, she encountered life-threatening bleeding from her left lung. There were blood clots in her airway and they had to do a tracheotomy. Her heart stopped and they were able to get it going with compressions. She was in stable but critical condition. The Dr was optimistic, there was no active bleeding, and the chest x-rays were better than we expected. They did wait on the embolization (trying to give her body a rest). They were not sure if there was neuron issues due to the prolonged loss of oxygen. But, when they were messing with her hair to put the EEG electrodes on, her blood pressure went up. (Morgan didn t want her hair messed up) She had a good night.

That morning she was given insulin for higher glucose levels. She was very swollen from all the fluid so the started two new meds to help her expel the extra fluid. They said they are not going to do the coil procedure that day. The embolization to try and stop bleeding from problematic vessels in her chest took 5 hours (instead of 2). She had bleeding from the femoral artery when the catheter was removed. We were very thankful that it is over. her glucose was high that night. They are also treating her for an infection in her bloodstream (from the vessel bleeding and spreading the infection that was in her lungs into the bloodstream). They didn't tell us this until that morning.

On the bright side- she was able to squeeze Jake's (her husband) hand around noon that day when they lowered the dose of the paralytic drug. her head ct scan showed mild swelling (normal for what she's been thru), but nothing that looks like permanent brain damage! Changing her drug for sedation and seeing how things go. She has squeezed Jake's hand, wiggled toes, opened her eyes halfway, and confirmed with the nurses that Jake Gornall is the best husband ever! When her nurse asked Morgan if she knew that she had the best husband ever, she shook her head "yes". When Jake asked to play the song he wrote for their wedding she nodded "yes"; but when he asked if she wanted him to sing again, she shook her head "no".

Then came another successful bronchoscope, central arterial line, and catheter to check pressures in pulmonary and ventricle. Her blood pressure went up during the cath, but was quickly stabilized. She had to have the cath as part of the transplant testing; they are trying to get everything finished, to see if she qualifies for the double lung transplant She was placed on ECMO that day to assist her lungs (hopefully allowing them to rest). She had a quiet night and restful day. They have started to wean her off of the sedatives and one of the pain meds. They said it may be a couple days before she starts to wake up. To help her get better the doctors hocked her up to a machine, that pulled blood out of her neck, and put oxygen into her blood and then back into her. On February 8, 2013 the machine went off, it needed to be relubed. So the doctors just turned the noise off. So the machine then shut down, and so did Morgan.

On February 8, 2013 God got an angel. I still can t believe it to this day that she is gone. Now I have to be and act like the big sister to Madz, which is hard because I was the middle child. So I never forgot the times me and Morgan had. I ll never forget her. She taught me from right and wrong and how to be a true friend. I know she is still looking out for me. Plus she will always be my big sister because she is FOREVER IN ME.
