in the hospital lounge.
‘I guess we need another check up but I will manage, Aren’t you supposed to be in office?’
‘That’s ok dad. I had my lunch while I worked and I can always catch up later’, I responded thinking about fixing an appointment next week for Dad.
‘Son, you were quiet good in the family taking care of us but you are supposed to work hard and save money for future too’, My dad advised in the most caring tone in his life.
‘I know dad. I know what I am doing. Don’t worry I am a team manager in my company with good pay and a name. Don’t worry dad I took enough care on savings too’, I gave a long reply.
‘But you are supposed to be a Vice president or a department head for your experience, Look Edie, he is half talented as you are and he is a manager already’, Dad answered being a typical parent comparing other kids.
‘Dad, come on, Edie is not at all bad. He slogs sometimes to impress the top people but that is how world is going. I am quiet happy with the position and money what ever I am getting. There is no limit for being ambitious and a man will get carried away once he started going out of the way to work hard and reach top’, I answered with the what-a-philosophy feeling. I found the dad is still unconvinced to see his son prefer less money with the potential of earning crazy. I further explained ‘Dad, don’t you worry. We got a lovely house for ourselves, a car, a happy family and I don wanna ruin it by missing them and working for developing some one else’s business. We will be fine, don’t worry. My concern is your health and kids’ studies at the moment. When you are smart enough to manage time, work and money with proper balance, you wont be a loser and am sure dad’, My philosophy was interrupted by the receptionist signed us to go in to see the dentist.
‘Halo, How was the meeting? Sorry hun, I could not get permission to come over to the school’, my wife apologized with worried face. ‘Hey, that’s ok but some thing serious. I guess Symo failed his recent exams with bad score and he is in need of special attention. The school teachers are worried about his sudden drop in performances’, I replied in a serious tone. ‘What? Symo… Gosh !!!! I knew it. I shouldn’t be working at all. I should have been at home helping him, I will resign the job first’, she went on flowing like a tap water with broken nozzle. ‘Wait a minute.. You are not kidding are you?’, she finally found out. I laughed out as loud as possible as I was driving back to office. ‘Liar Liar big liar’, Edie shouted next to me with grumpy noises. ‘Hey don’t you know symo is always a topper. Just stop being panic when you hear anything about children. Even if Symo doesn’t study we should not react this way’, I advised as I know she will sure listen. ‘Yahhh…’, She continued ‘I know you darling, I know you will never let them down’, She replied with all smiles.
The evening was a bit of chaos as I need to answer my boss on losing few super rich customers. It was not an easy day today as I need to back up my team as well. After all, I was a member once and I can not repeat what my old-time boss made, Finger pointing. I stretched a bit that day to make a plan with my team for the up coming weeks. ‘Guys, you don’t have to slog but concentrate and work smart to get the business’, I finished the speech with the last official statement to my team.
Edie and me were driving back home together. Edie preferred to join me as we both stepped out together from office. It’s one of those rare coincidence. ‘Tough long week man’, I coughed as I drive slowly out of the parking lot.
‘Man am so bloody tired’, Edie was all noisy and understandably after gulping in 2 cans of Carlsberg we picked on our way while I was buying few candies.
‘What are you doing this weekend?’, I hate silence. Specially when am driving.
‘Well, hit bed, sleep crazy, watch tele.. Bloody tough week it was man’, He gathered all his senses to give an answer I was rightly anticipating.
‘Wow, You call this a plan ?’, I gave a dirty look and continued ‘You know what I am up to this weekend ?’, I havent offered a chance to react and further went on ‘Tennis coaching to Symo, Swim with Adie, Shrek 3 movie with the family, Dinner outing, Liverpool Vs. Chelsea this Sunday afternoon of course with popcorn and cola bottomless’, I stopped for a deep breath.
‘Can I get more Beer ?’, Edie questioned even though he knows the answer will be negative. ‘Go Live your life’, I yelled at him as he got down. I know I am telling this for 1 millionth time. I am sure he will soon realize. I parked my car in the garage with nothing but family in front of me for next 48 hours.
