Prologe: I stood looking in the mirror and my reflection looked strange to me. This is not the person that I once knew, She had dull black hair and plain, palegreen eyes. I thought that I once knew her but I was wrong. I'm starting to feel dizzy and I think that I should sit down. I glanced down at the pill bottle that I had fallen to the floor. I took them all because I was angry, I don't want to die. I tried to get to the door, but I was fading fast and i never made it to the door. As I fell on the floor i remember thinking about my family and my friends. They would never understand what I had done and I don't think that they ever will.


Chapter 1: I looked down at my body lying lifeless on the floor. I couldn't see myself in the mirror but I knew I was there. I don't know how long I had waited but when the door opened I saw my mom. She sank to her knees and cried, then my father came in. He looked at me and broke down into tears. I never thought that I would ever see them so sad. Just then someone came into the room, he was wearing a black cloak and I knew who he was. "You need to come with me" said the cloaked figure. "I-I-I didn't mean to kill myself! I was just angry at my parents and I wanted to scare them." "Well..You are dead and I am here to collect you, so come with me." I got up sialently and walked towards him. I would never see my parents again and it was all my fault. I took the grim reapers hand and we walked into a bright light and then I remember coming out of a tunnle into a strange place. "That is god." Said the grim reaper "He will decide you fate." I walked over to the man sitting on the pedistal and what he said to me I will never forget. "You can't stay here." He said to me in voice that sounded like honey. "What?" I said "You heard me I said you can't stay here, you took your own life and i can't have that here." "Can't you just send me back?" I asked feeling hopeful. "No, I can't , your dead and I can't control that." I remember thinking just then where I had to go and I did not want to go there. "Soooo where can I go?" I asked. I knew the answer to that question before I even asked it. "You need to go to hell and see if the devil wants you there. NEXT!" He yelled. I walked away, I couldn't believe what he just told me. I knew where I had to go but I didn't want to. I met up with the grim reaper and took his hand again. This time the tunnel that we went trough was dark and I couldn't see. I arrived at the gates of hell and was greeted by the devil. "Hello" he said "and your name would be...." He asked me "Beth" I answered. "You are not on my list." he said to me and turned and walked away. I couldn't believe it, the devil didn't even want me. "Well you have two choices now, you can either A: work for me and collect souls, or B: wander the earth with nothing to do." I didn't have a choice i had to work with him, I didn't want to wander the earth. "I guess i'm working for you." I said. I wasn't excited about collecting souls but it couldn't be that hard right?


Chapter 2: When we arrived at the grim reapers house, it wasn't a house it was a mansion that never ended. "You see" he said "this is where the souls come and rest forever. They never leave here" He handed me a cloak and told me to put it on. When I did he gave me a list of people that I needed to collect and return to the house so they could rest. "You know what you have to do so go and do it. I am very busy and have a lot to do." "Wait!" I said. he turned and looked at me. "How will I get to them?" I asked. "Just think of the name and it will take you to the person that you seek." With that he turned and walked down one of the hallways to tend to one of the souls. The first name on the list was George Handerson. I thought of the name and then I was in a retering home with an old man. He looked about 80. I tried to tap him on the shoulder but my hand went right through him. He couldn't see or hear me. I waited until he died so I could take him back to the mansion. "Where are we going?" asked the old man. "You are going home." I answered. I brought him there and one of the assistents brought him to a room so he could rest. I did everyone on the list except the last on. The last name on the list was Max Rider. I thought of him and when to him. That is when my afterlife changed forever.

Chapter 3: As I stared at the name on the list I thought of someone in my school with the same name. It couldn't be him I thought he was fine the last time that I was saw him. The next thing I knew I was in the bedroom of Max. "Holy Shit!" I said. I thought he couldn't hear me, the others couldn't. He turned and stared at me. He could see me! "Who are you, and how the fuck did you get in here?" He asked. When I explained who I was and what I did, he started to laugh. He thought it was a joke, and then when he saw I wasn't laughing he stopped. "Wait," he said "Your serious aren't you.." "Yea" I said "But I can't die, i'm only 17, and i got my whole life ahead of me." He looked like he was about to cry. I wanted to reach out and hug him, if I did I would go right through him. "How can you see me, when the others couldn't?" I asked "I don't know, but I don't want to die!" He was really starting to freak out and I was starting to get scared. "Do you know how I am going to die?" he asked "No I only collect the souls that die, and it's not that fun." I answered. I wondered how he was going to die. He was to young to have anything physicaly wrong with him. So something bad must happen to him to kill him. The thought of that happening scared me, I had taken my life and knowing something was going to kill him was scary. I couldn't help or stop it all I could do was sit and watch. "Don't I know you...?" he asked me. "Yea" I answered "I used to go to your school, but I died. God wouldn't take me and I wasn't on the devils list....so I got this job." I explained to him. "I thought I recognized you but you look different." He said "Well that happens when you die." He looked out the window and stared at the sky. I felt really bad for him and I wished that I could help him. Maybe I can......

Chapter 4: I went back to the grim reaper and explained to him that there must be a mistake. "There is no mistake." He said to me "I don't make mistakes, you see if I did I would be killing an innocent person and I can't do that." He just sat in his chair and looked at me. I was starstruck. I thought that he would be able to help me but he couldn't. All I could do was wait for Max to die. I went back to find him alive but worried. "Did he say it was a mistake?" He asked me and when I shook my head he punched a wall and broke down crying. He didn't want to die and i didn't want him to die. I bent down and hugged him. To my surprise I could hug him. He tried to shake me off but then just let me hug him. We sat on the floor for an hour before he got up. I stood with him and to my suprise he thanked me. He said that I had tried and that was all he needed. Then he kissed me. It was slow and sweet, not hurried. He told me that he wasn't afraid to die if he could be with me. That made me want to save him even more. If he died we would never see each other again, but if he lived then eventually we would be together. I was determined to save him, little did I know that cheating death was going to be a lot harder then it looked.

Chapter 5: I visited him everyday and we thought of all the things that could kill him. We never knew which on was the one that would kill him and how. So all we could do was wait and wounder. I tried my best to protect him for all that I could, but I was dead so I couldn't do much to help him. Death came for him on the fifth day we were together. We were walking down the road and we passed a construction site. As we passed one of the cranes got out of control and was swinging around. It came for him, I saw it and warned him. He avoided it just in time, but death had other plans for him. While he was ducking to avoid the crane the construction site exploded and pieces flew everywhere. We hit the ground not wanting to get hit by the stuff flying through the air. After everything that had happened I was wondering if it was possible to cheat death. I went back to the grim reaper to ask and what I was told I could of gone without hearing. "No," he said "It is not possible to cheat death, death will find you no matter where you go." "How does death know that he was next on the list though?" I wondered "That is an easy question, you see I am death." I couldn't believe what I was hearing, I thought that the grim reaper was only supposed to collect the souls, not kill them. "You see," he said to me "I find the people that are going to die and I write them down on a list. Then you are supposed to wait for them to die and collect their souls for me." "I don't want to help you anymore." I said to him. I took off the robe and threw it at him. "You don't have to help me, but you will be forced to wander the earth, no purpose at all. You see you will live forever and forever is a very long time. You may want to reconsider turning in your robe." He smirked at me like he knew that I would go back to him, but he had another thing coming. I was not about to let max die because the grim reaper decided so. "No," I said "I am going to help max survive, you
