Hydra
Hydra is the child of Typhon and Echidna, and the monster was put in place to guard an entrance to the underworld. The monster has been described as having anywhere from five to “a multitude” of heads, although in many stories nine heads is the accepted number. In addition to having multiple heads, the Hydra also had poisonous breath and blood, making it an undoubtedly formidable opponent. The many headed serpent was related to other nasty characters in Greek mythology including the Chimera and Cerberus, the many headed dog. The overview of the most multi headed water beast of Greek myth focuses almost equally on the legendary Hercules and his trials. Stories about the hydra as well as other monsters in the world myths and legends are included as are there representations in science, art, litature, and popular culture. While the “scary” font that heads up the sections is unappealing adn the layout is sloppy in sections, the photographs and illustrations enhance the texthydra is an 8 headed dragon who will later in it life be slayed by hercules for hercules to become a geek god.
