Intro-

My name is Tom, yes just Tom. My real name is Thomas lye Shunning-burg but my evil step-dad made my mom change my name to Tom, just plain Tom. probably because my last name was my fathers.
My dad died when i was about 2 years old. My mother never told me what really happened to him, and the answer has been haunting me to this day. Right now I am 12.I always thought that our lives would be so much different without my step-dad. I didn't even know why my mom married him in the first place.
My step-dad keeps me in the attic supposedly called my bedroom. Its hardly even a room at all. The wall paper is stained brown and tearing to little shreds, the floor boards squeak and a few boards are missing, on the walls there is mold in the corners and its also stained brown like the roof. I often get rats and all kinds of bugs coming out of the floor boards and holes in the roof and walls.
I use to go to school but now I have to hide in my room for the rest of my life, even when people come to the house I am ordered to run to my room.I don't even have home-school. Everyone thinks that I died in a car crash with my dad because that's what my mom lied to get people to stop nagging the family.
I think you are ready to here my story... right? not just plain boring facts about my sad depressing life? well here we go this is how my story began...this is how it all started.

Chapter 1: The beginning

"Tom, Where are you boy!?" Step-dad screams as he stands at the bottom of the stairs holding the whip. Me and my family live on a farm, In my house we have long stairs that our stained yellow that rap around in a circle leading to the attic in a dark hallway , My room.
"coming, sir!" I assure him. I know if I don't come quickly he will start yelling uncontrollably.
I come down the stairs to meet Kilo, My step-dad. I turn around the corner and the first thing I get is a big smack in the face.
"Your chores!? You haven't done them all yet!" He says like I'm stupid.
"Sorry sir, its only 8:00 am and its Saturday." I look down I know I'm going to get into trouble for saying that, but what I really wanted to say was worse, I wanted to say "you keep me locked in the room! there's no way I could of done them right now old man!" but instead I was good.
"what!!? whatever! Just do them, boy!" He says boy again, it bothers me a lot because he changed my name to Tom, why didn't he just change it to boy, or even bad boy for all I cared.
I run outside and start sweeping the barn where we keep the horses, chickens, and pigs.
I sigh and finish most of my chores by dinner which include sweeping in sided the house and in the barn, washing dishes, cutting wood for the fireplace, washing the dog, moping, dusting, feeding the animals, cleaning step-dads truck, washing the windows,vacuuming the whole house...not my room though, and making everyone's beds.
My mom called me to come to the table to eat. Me and my mom use to pray at the table every night before dinner, but since Kilo came he hasn't aloud praying in the house. But I didn't care I would pray secretly in my room, what could he do anyways? he couldn't control that.
"Hey Sweety." Mom tries to smile but she knows how Kilo makes me work everyday and beats me. She's just to afraid to divorce him because we couldn't get money without him.
"Hey mom, whats for dinner?" I smile and sound cheery to cheer her up.
"oh...chicken and mashed potatoes, is that okay?" She tells me.
"Of course it is! shut-up! just eat your dinner and get done with it Tom! You to Jane!" He screams at me and my mom in anger. I nod and sit at my spot at the table.
"So Kilo...hows work?" Mom asks. Passing me the potatoes.
"I'm getting money that's all that matters." he grunts. My mom sighs
"I'll eat in our room." Mom says plainly. she stands up and starts to walk away.
"Stop! why!? you can eat here like all of us! Sit Jane!" He demands. Mom doesn't notice two tears that drip from her face as she finished dinner, the rest of the night its quite.

Well now that you seen my life, what do you think? I know what your thinking, run away, well your right that's exactly what I did.
Right after dinner I ran up to my room in the attic and waited until 1:00 am to relax because that's Kilo's working hours until 6:00 am. I get so frustrated I start packing my back pack full of things, all I wanted to do was run away, I would have to leave my mom...but I can't live like this any longer, I have to leave.
I packed my backpack with a notebook, a pencil, 50 bucks I have saved up for a long time, snacks and 2 water bottles from the kitchen, 2 outfits,toilet paper ( you never know) and a small blanket. I put down my backpack and peak in my moms room. She's reading a book like usual.
"I love you mom." I say as I stand in the door way.
She laughs "I love you too, whats wrong?"
"Nothing just wanted to say i love you, goodnight." I smile. She smiles back
"Good night Tom." she goes back to her reading, I look at her face for the last time and close her door.
I run to my room to pick up my backpack again. I glance at the clock it is 2:30 am. I yawn and open my window. The breeze was cold and the wind was blowing hard. I saw the tree that's been in front of my window since I lived here, but in this time of year it didn't have any leaves on it. I drop my back pack first, it was a long way down and the backpack landed with a big crash. I think for a while. I remember when i was little I watched this movie where a kid was running away from home like me, so he tied his blanket sheets all together and tied it to an edge on his window, so that's exactly what I did.
I tried carefully sliding down the wall of the house while holding on the sheets. I took about 4 steps down when "rip!" the sheets untied and ripped from my window, I didn't have time to yell and I landed with a crash. My back had been hit hard on the ground, my butt was sore and probably would get a bunch of bruises on it, and my foot had been twisted backwards, i think I had strained my ankle. I get up as good as I could surprisingly I was okay and started limping toward the forest to think.
I sat on what I thought was a rock, it was all bumpy and rough. Well that's what I expected from a rock. I took out my notebook but It was to late to write in my journal the night was to dark, I would have to wait until at least 5:00 am until the sun would start coming up. i put it away and took out my blanket and put it over the bottom half of my body because I already had a big jacket with real sheep hair in it, my mom had actually made it her self. I lied there and looked at my watch I fell asleep at about 3:10. I woke up to birds. I quickly glanced at my watch getting mad at my self since I wasn't supposed to fall asleep. It was 4:30 a.m. I was so relived.
I picked up my back pack and an idea came to me. What if I got some wood and made a a house, at the time I was so excited about the idea I had to do it. I started running around the forest getting certain kind of wood, but right after i got a bunch of wood there was something I forgot. Nails. I couldn't build a tree house with out nails.
I still remember that one afternoon I came home from school and my dad surprised me to a tree house in my yard, it was the tree I mentioned earlier when i was by my window. I was so happy my dad was outside putting the finishing touches on it.
"Thank you dad! thanks!" I remember yelling and climbing in the tree house with joy and I loved that tree house, but when my mom met Kilo he destroyed it and made me use the wood as wood for the fireplace.
I wiped the tears that had came down my face. I kicked one of the wood pieces out of anger and it went flying.I sat back on the rock and sat for a long time, sooner or later I would have to leave the forest
