Once I was in human form and I was fully dressed, I met Emberlynn in the kitchen. She had breakfast waiting for Kaire and me. For Kaire, it was a steak. It was not cut up or anything, just a pure steak. That sounded good as I studied my meal.
“What on earth is this thing?” I asked, picking it up with a fork and dropping it back onto my plate as a sticky liquid dripped onto my hand. Emberlynn laughed and handed me more unknown human food. This time, it was what looked like burnt bread with a creamy yellow substance on one side. “And this?”
“What you are holding in your hand is called toast. It’s bread cooked in a toaster that is then coated in butter. Taste it, it’s good.” She waited until I had eaten some of my toast before she explained the other thing that was on my plate. “That is called a waffle. Basically, it is a form of bread that is toasted until it is at the desired softness. They cool off really fast though. Your waffle has butter on it as well.” The butter that was on my waffle was discolored because of the strange sticky liquid. “The brown stuff is called syrup. It is very bitter sweet. Also, beware of the chocolate that I put in your waffle.” Toast, waffle, syrup, butter. The new vocabulary was getting overwhelming. Especially since Kaire was laughing like crazy while he was devouring his steak. I gave him a dirty look until he suddenly chomped on a bone, then I was laughing. Now we were even.
To be honest, the food was really good. Humans sure do know how to cook. Well, the ones that are good at it anyway, certain ones were said to be really poor at cooking. I would hate to eat the food that they give to their family. Nasty.
The phone thing that Emberlynn kept in her pocket began to go off. She answered and started talking to the person that was on the other end of the device. I understood the concept of phones, but it still confused me how they worked. People are really too lazy to walk across town to talk to their friends. Dang, now that was not a surprise. But the problem with my logic, sometimes it tooktoo long for a human to travel across town. Phones saved time and it looks like this call was an emergency.
“We have a problem.” Her face was covered in fear. “They’re coming. The government. Word has gotten out about you guys being missing and someone somehow went snooping and they got suspicious of everyone. Apparently we are one of the last places they are checking for you two. Thankfully, that means we will only have to deal with a few of the creepy agents.” Lovely, they caught whiff of us. The three of us could only pray that we could lie to the government well enough that they would leave us be.
"Who told you?" I asked, not doubting for a minute that the government was coming, but I wanted to know where her information was coming from. It could be from Hamilton for all I knew, and Kaire was thinking the sane thing.
"I don't know, some guy. He didn't say much but a voice in the background spoke to him, I think his name is Mathias," Emberlynn reported, worried. There was a panciked rush in her voice. So many times before she saw things coming or just knew that something was going to happen, now, she lacked the epiphany. If that was enough to set her off, what happened next would only be worse.
Four loud bangs sounded from the door. I could smell three humans standing just outside of it. One screamed at us,
“Open up! We have a warrant!”
This is going to be fun.

Just imagine you are a lycan that was once a wolf and you are trying to lay low. Then, a few days after you are starting to get comfortable, you figure out how to transform back into a wolf and you meet the lycan that infected you with the virus in the first place. After that, your human friend gets a call and ends it with her face covered in fear. Then she says that the government is coming to search every house for you and your wolf brother just to see if you are alive. Next thing you know you are imagining how fun it is going to be to lie to government officials about who you are and why you are in a city walking around like a human when you should be running around hunting like a wolf. Just imagine that.
Here I am. Sitting in the kitchen with my mind trying to memorize my complete alias. My name is Julianna Lee Dannings and apparently I was born in Chicago, Illinois. My family never had much money but we had enough to get by each month with a little extra. I currently have no hobbies and I flew in to see my old friend Emberlynn Victoria Lake. Apparently that is my life that I am really glad that I never lived. Wolves never have to worry about money or lying to government officials.
“Hello ladies. I am Agent Vuniga. My friends here are Agent Earl and Agent Sullivan.” Now he was making me feel like I am stupid. Don’t I look like an adult? “Let’s get down to business. Have you seen the missing wolves?” We both shook our head. “Have you come into contact with the lycan virus in any way?” Another head shake. “We are going to need to confirm that. Sullivan, bring me the testing case.”
The larger female agent left the room and went for a briefcase that was in their car. The smaller female went with her. When they returned, they brought out complicated equipment and prepared it for testing. Vuniga started with Emberlynn and checked her. She completely clean of the virus. He almost got the needle into my arm when Kaire started barking, sounding like a lycan. The three of them went to check out the ruckus. While Kaire stalled, Emberlynn used the machinery on herself and typed in my information to fool them. The three of the agents returned to the kitchen tired and worn out. Kaire was good at wearing people down.
“Looks like I gotcha before the dog started barking. He scared the living hell out of me,” Vuniga admitted. Agent Sullivan stared at Kaire.
“What breed is he exactly? He looks like a wild animal,” she asked curiously.
“Conrad is a wolfdog. His mother was a German Shepherd mix of some sort and his father was obviously the wolf.” I was so surprised that I did not accidentally say Kaire instead of Conrad. It was such a major breakthrough, I remembered an alias, even Emberlynn was amazed by that.
“I can definitely see the wolf. In fact, he looks a lot like one of the missing wolves. Kind of like the brother Kaire.” Sullivan was quick at figuring things out. Just as I was beginning to come up with something smart to say back to her, she pointed a Glock at my head. “Where’s Millennia?” Vuniga had his gun aimed at Emberlynn while Earl was trained on Kaire, who was growling fiercely. “Is she somewhere nearby? Where is she?” Sullivan focused on me. “You were the only one that we did not have a confirmed test for. There is a chance that you messed with the data. Do them both again.” They started with Emberlynn again, who had her eyes sealed shut. Instead of her name showing up, it was my alias. “So you are the one that is being covered up for. Do her.” I held out my arm voluntarily. Kaire increased his growling and barking. Things were going insane, making my heart rate pick up. It was getting too tense. That was when I could feel the cool metal of Sullivan’s gun. “You just came up with no name and it reads that you’re infected. You know where Millennia is, don't you. Where is she?” The same question was being asked repeatedly. It was beginning to get annoying. The constant yelling was making my head pound and my heart just kept beating faster and faster.
Millennia.
What Kaire?
I love you.
I love you too, brother.
“You want to know where she is?” I snapped. Sullivan nodded. Standing up I yelled, “She’s right here! Standing in front of you! That’s why I came up with no name! I am Millennia!” Sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do. It does not always involve yelling though. I should tell that to Sullivan when I don't feel like ripping her head right off.
“You are Millennia?” They were confused.
“I did just say that didn’t I? And by the way, is that frickin’ thing called a suitcase or a briefcase?” I replied.
“How? There has never been a single wolf that survived the virus. How and where were you infected?” Sullivan was asking a lot of questions. Maybe she was the real leader of the group that did not take action until she needed to. I have seen alpha wolves do that all the time and it is an amazing defensive strategy.
“I was bitten on the shoulder, and it really hurt. It was nothing at first, but then it built up to this pain that was enough to bring me to the ground. Not to mention, it really scared the others. No one understood it. No one except that stupid idiot liar Feline. She’s a traitor. She could’ve helped but she didn’t.” Vuniga was picking up on my rage, and the name.
“When we studied your pack, you were like family. Losing Penelope broke you apart but you stayed together. What’s wrong with Feline?” he asked. I cracked my neck, thinking about the pain I would put Feline through when I found her again.
“I found out last night that she was never a wolf, but a freaking lycan. She had posed as a crazed innocent wolf in order to spy on us for Hamilton. Feline is not even her real name,” I muttered. They sprung upward, her name seemed so important to them. “Why do you need her name?” I asked, having a few theories fly through my head.
“We do not know any of the names of the pack members except for the alpha, Hamilton. Did you get a last name?” Sullivan questioned. I shook my head, if I had gotten a last name, I would have had Emberlynn find her for me so that I could show her what liars get in a wolf pack.
“Only a first. She said her real name was Kara. Why did they trust me when I had just met them?” Now they were extremely interested.
“Wait, you met up with them? They just let you in before doing anything.” I nodded. “No questions?” Shaking my head, I waited for the questions to end. “What did they talk about?”
“Me. After Hamilton greeted me warmly they were discussing me. How I was so quiet and how I was the only who survived and they were trying to figure out why I survived. That was how I recognized Feline, I mean Kara,”
