The year was 2010, March 14, 3:14 AM. John, 28, went back to his work he had to finish
for his involvement in the war between Aztecs and Europeans, and noticed he was far behind. He
had to write an article concerning the current war that started in early 2003. He started off by
looking at the roots of when they had first met in the early 1500s. When the Europeans had
encountered this civilization searching for treasures, they had come in a peaceful way, not
wanting any harm to be done on anybody or anything. As soon as they arrived, the Aztecs were
curious about the new things they brought with them. The guns they had, horses, boats, etc. It
was all new to them. Their ruler had invited the explorers to his temple after a while, where he
was able to share their culture and religion with them. After a while of talking with their ruler,
the Europeans had many questions about their daily routine of life, such as what they used for
fun, or the chores they had to do.
After the interview with these Aztecs, they remembered their original goal to retrieve
some of the riches and gold that the Aztecs had. They looked at their armor and weaponry, and
decided that they needed more of an upper hand against their enemies. Without thinking, they
then started negotiations to trade some of their own weapons for the riches they came for. The
Aztec ruler saw this as an opportunity to bring new items into his kingdom by trading things they
already had plenty enough of, and accepted the deal. Ships were then sent from Europe to their
kingdom as soon as they arrived back from the foreign country. One of the explorers didn’t make
it back to Europe, and was announced dead. The Europeans and Aztecs have lived in harmony
with each other ever since. They were able to find it easy to co-operate with each other when
they needed help the most, either with economy or political problems. All of Western Europe
was fond of the Aztecs, and all of this lasted up to June 26, 2003. By then, the Aztecs gained
enough weapons from the deal with the Spanish explores to try to conquer Europe. The attack
was all-of-a-sudden, completely unexpected and uncalled for. The Aztecs at first had the upper
hand up to 2006, then the Europeans started to make a comeback early 2007.
John thought of a way to summarize this as the first paragraph, but he was too late. The
war moved into his own neighborhood when some European soldiers found some of their
enemies there. He heard gunshots, screaming, and even more gunshots. He knew exactly what he
had to do in order to stay alive: Just duck underneath this desk and continue writing. This same
situation happened countless times wherever he went, so he’s used to performing tasks under the
deafening sounds of the war. It was over quickly, and he thought some more about it. He went
outside, noticing that the Spanish soldiers had already won the battle about 30 minutes
afterwards. There were only 25 soldiers fighting, 14 for the Aztecs, and 11 for the Europeans. A
few civilians lay flat on the floor, covering their heads, not noticing that it was safe to get up.
John looked at this new environment as if it were something that happens each and every day,
24/7.
It had happened so many times before, and he found it quite fun to be caught right in the
heat of battle. At times during these historic feats, he would carefully peak his head out of his
hiding spot to observe the fighting style of each individual soldier. He does this so many times,
that he had learned Martial Arts in the past week just by watching the gestures of some of the
Chinese soldiers who volunteered to help Europe fight the current war. Finally, he spoke up.
“Thank you,” he said. He was pretty far away, but one of the soldiers, George, heard this.
“Thanks for what?” “For serving our country, of course! What else?” “It could’ve been for that,
or for saving your life, or practically anything you happened to be talking about.” “I thank you
nonetheless.” “You’re welcome.” George thought. “You know, we don’t get that much often.
Our current society is just caught up with their everyday lives to think about the war, and the
things that we go through to keep our country independent.” “Really? Surely, everybody must be
thankful for life. And, to be honest, this is the first time that I’ve been in the middle of such a
conflict very early in the morning.” George nodded, and started to leave. “Wait,” John yelled for
his attention. “Yes?” “If you don’t have any new missions assigned for at least half-an-hour,
would you mind participating in a survey?” “Why’s that?” “The magazine I’m working for,
TIME, wants me to make and submit an article about this war. Like you stated a few minutes
ago, not everyone is concerned about the important details of today’s news. Maybe you’d like to
help me get the message through people’s minds.” “That wouldn’t be such a bad idea, now that
you think of it. Maybe it can help recruit more soldiers.”
After an interview with this heroic soldier, John was able to continue on the article that was due the next day:
“A WAR IN PROGRESS, A REVOLUTION BEING FORMED
An article on the European war by John Fernandez
You’re at home, enjoying plenty of your favorite activities, ranging from Monopoly to
Parcheesi, playing an instrument to writing a story to exercise your writing skills. You get too
caught up in your everyday activities, it never occurs to you that there are more important things
in the world. You could be donating money to charities for the poor, help build homes for people
whose old houses were destroyed by an accident, etc. The most notable thing you can do,
however, is participate in the current war against the Aztec civilization.
In the early 1500s, Spanish explorers from Spain and Portuguese were sent to retrieve
gold and other treasures that were reported west of Europe. When these explorers arrived months
later, they thought of an appropriate name for the new continent they found. This continent is
now known as the Americas, but the first Spanish explorer to discover this region, Christopher
Columbus, named the inhabitants of this land “Indians” because he thought they had surfaced on
India, which happened to be their main destination. Christopher Columbus went back to Spain to
tell them about this new land, and became widely famous for making such an important
discovery. The explorers who arrived in the Americas after Christopher encountered the religion
of the Aztecs and the Incas. When they found the Aztecs, they remembered their goal to retrieve
gold and other treasures.
Promoting peace was an important aspect, too. Conquering the Aztecs and Incas and
forcing them to become slaves wasn’t an option, so they needed to negotiate their way to the
gold. They had nothing that the Aztecs wanted or needed, except for some weapons that would
help them expand their empire. Not thinking about the consequences that may follow later on in
history, they gleefully made the trade. The Aztecs trusted us, and we trusted the Aztecs since
then up to 2003. Then, right in the capital of Italy, Aztecs set up an ambush against the Pope. He
had the upper hand, however, because of his security. But recognizing this as a serious threat, the
Pope let this news out to the rest of Europe, and countries like Germany and Spain joined the
fight to protect their land from the incoming invaders. Why they decided to revolt against us is
unknown, but one thing we can safely presume from the history between Europe and Aztec
civilization is that they wanted to expand their empire, and would do basically anything in order
to see to it that they get exactly what they want.
The news then spread throughout Asia and in Africa. Foreign countries must’ve had
sympathy for us, and decided to lend some highly-skilled troops to fight off our newest enemies.
Or they could’ve sensed that if Southern American civilizations would attack Europe, they may
have given an opportunity to attack them as well. Either way, these countries still insisted on
helping us with the war. The Aztecs pose a serious threat to our countries with their new
weapons, and millions of innocent bystanders were killed brutally by them.
It wasn’t until early 2006 when we started to make a serious comeback in the war. The
Aztecs made a bad move that our government isn’t prepared to tell us just about yet. Another
thing that may have caused our sudden comeback is our advanced technology. When the
negotiations were set, they were only given the recent guns and armor during their time. Now,
we have developed bigger, better weapons and bulletproof armor. Plus, the new types of
transportation is also a huge advantage to us. Instead of using horses like we did back then, we
have helicopters, military jets, tanks, and more. It really makes you wonder why the Aztecs
started winning to start off with.
But with every war comes it’s several consequences. All over the world, people have
been ranting about wars, much like the peace movement that started around the 1960s. The
public wants peace, and surely, there must be a way to settle this argument without war and
violence. Agreements can be made, such as the Aztecs getting certain areas of land that we don’t
use or hardly use anymore, as long as they behave well in society. I just think that there isn’t so
much of a need for war in such a situation.”
