Don't get on the bus

CH 1

I'm the victim. That's what everyone keeps telling me. That's what the police say, that's what my parents say, and that's even what all the newspapers, magazines, and news reporters say. But they weren't there, and they don't know everything, even if the whole thing was plastered across every TV screen in America. They still don't know everything, because cameras don't catch everything, because cameras can't read minds, because cameras can be turned off. They can't possibly even begin to understand...

But I suppose I'm getting ahead of myself. My name is Kate, and this is my living nightmare.

It started like any other Nightmare I’ve ever had. In the beginning I know something is wrong, then that feeling turns to fear and it slowly builds up inside me until it explodes and I wake up. But this is a living nightmare, and I can't wake up. Sleep can't even help me escape, because that's when the memories force themselves to the forefront of my mind.

But I’m once again getting ahead of myself. So I’ll start by giving you the information you need to know.

Since I was five I've been home-schooled. My parents and I have traveled from one town to the next for almost as long as I can remember, so going to an actual school hasn't really been an option, but now we have settled in our new house back in my birthplace and my parents have finally decided that they want me to experience the high school life. It wasn't until I was six that we started traveling, but even back then I was home schooled. Although that didn't keep me from making friends. So I was sad when I was told I wouldn't be able to play with Zack for a while. He was my best friend back then, and he has been ever since, even though I didn't see him again until we moved back a year ago.

I'm fourteen now and today is my first day of high school as a freshman. Like I said before, my parents have decides to settle down and let me go to a real school.

I've never been to a real school.

The night before my first day of school I picked out my outfit, But the next morning as I looked over my choice I found myself changing my mind. I put the dress and sandals back in my closet and instead put on capris and my favorite cute green top and my favorite Nikes. Perhaps my mind was already aware of what was to come, because my first choice in clothing wasn't what anyone would want to be wearing during the things that would come to pass. Looking back now I’m grateful that I changed my mind about what to wear.

As I got ready, I thought about what school would be like. I don't know how it's possible, but I was nervous and excited at the same time.

I finished getting dressed and then rushed in the restroom to straighten my hair. I decided to go without makeup that day, another good decision, and then I rushed down stairs. I sat on the floor and let my mom braid my hair. After I ate and brushed my teeth I went outside to wait for the bus. Mom had offered to drive me, but I declined explaining how I'd like to ride the bus with Zack and maybe get to know some of the other kids I would be riding the bus with, and try to make a few new friends before school, and that was my first mistake.

I can still remember how I felt on that cold, rainy day. I looked up at the clouds and fear flooded my body. I don't know where the feeling came from, but perhaps it was meant to be a warning. My second mistake was ignoring the warning.

The bus turned on our road, and as it crept closer the fear got stronger. When the bus doors opened, inviting me in, my fear accelerated, and I stood there frozen in fear. I could have run back inside and asked mom to drive me, but I told myself that I was just nervous about meeting all the new people, and I pushed the fear to the back of my mind. That's when I made the third mistake, and got on the bus. The bus doors squeaked closed behind me, sealing my fate.

Don't look under the seat

 Ch 2

A creepy instrumental ring tone is what had my eyes popping open in fright. I jolted up in my seat and glanced around, surprised to see that I was all alone on the bus, and that it was dark out. The moon must have been hidden behind the clouds because the only light came from the cellphone I woke up clutching. In my other hand I clutched my purse.

When did I fall asleep? Where am I? Why didn't the bus driver wake me? And how did I sleep through the whole day?! My parents must be worried sick!

I glanced down at the phone that I had still been clutching in my hand, and that was still playing that eerie music. I recognized the song as the karaoke version of Celica Westbrook's song New Moon. The instrumental music was mixed with the sound of a creepy voice whispering, "I see you."

It's my iPhone, but I most definitely did not have that ring tone on my phone before I left for school that morning.

I slid my finger across the screen to unlock it. As soon as I did I saw a message from the number 666-6169.

Don't look under the seat.

I blinked shocked by the strange message, and looked around again. That's when I realized that I was in the front seat closest to the door of the bus. When I got on the bus I had sat in the seat farthest to the back.

I felt a shiver of apprehension run down my spine as I realized someone had moved me while I was asleep, and then left me there knowingly.

I looked back down at my phone and realized this wasn't the first message I’d got from the unrecognized number.

The first message made a feeling of dread grow in my stomach.

Roses are red

Violets are blue

You will be dead

Very very soon

I gathered my courage and looked under the seat, but nothing was there. I got up and began searching under every seat until I reached the one I had been sitting in before someone moved me.

As I began to bend down I felt a sudden chill as if someone was walking on my grave. I began to shiver and suddenly I didn't want to know what the message was talking about. The adrenaline pumping through my blood was telling me to run.

I bent down and looked under the seat.

Don't steal from a dead girl

CH 3

At first all I saw was more darkness, but then a red light began to flash.

Finally I let my instincts take control and I was running down the aisle towards the bus door as I saw the flash of lights from a car headed straight for the buss. Within seconds I was off the bus and running for my life. Behind me I heard the sound of metal slamming against metal, and I froze in my tracks. I turned back and ran to the car, throwing the driver's side door open without thinking about what I was doing. I then grabbed the girl from the front seat and hurriedly drug her from the car. Dragging the girl's limp body with me I once again began running for my life. I didn't get far before the heat from the blast knocked me down. As I lay on the ground with my heart beating wildly in my chest, I turned my head to get a glimpse of what was left of the bus.

I began shaking again as I realized the bomb had torn the bus to shreds and I had been seconds away from being shredded with it.

I felt like throwing up as the same eerie ring tone from earlier began playing again.

I looked down at my phone and I stopped breathing as my brain processed the message on the screen.

I told you not to look under the seat.

With now blurry eyes, I looked towards the way I had been running and I saw the girl who crashed into the buss.

I crawled towards her body knowing that my shaky legs wouldn't yet support me.

Having been a lifeguard at my aunt's water park, I know how to check for a pulse.

I checked the girl's pulse and felt bile rise in my throat as I realized the girl was dead. Now that I could get a good look at her I recognized her as one of the girls who had been on the bus.

A cellphone, clutched in the girl's hands, began playing that same horrible ring tone, and I only hesitated for a second before prying the cellphone from her hands which had been gripping the cellphone the whole time.

As I opened the message I first read the one that was sent to her seconds before she crashed into the bus.

Don't take your eyes off the road.

The newest message had me shaking in fear again as I was again reminded that I was being watched.

I told her not to take her eyes off the road.

Whoever had been sending the text messages knew the girl in the car would take her eyes off the road to read the text that the sender had sent. He or she knew that the girl would then crash into the bus. Someone wanted this girl dead, and that someone is the same person who had the bus parked in the middle of the road with a bomb strapped to the bottom of the back seat and me still on it. That someone was still sending me messages.

I scrolled up to the very first text the girl had gotten.

It was the same roses are red poem that i got, except it had a new verse.

Sugar is sweet

But will be the ending of you

The End:

So like I said

Roses are red

Violets are Blue

You will be dead

Very very soon

As my disbelieving eyes scanned the dead girl's text messages, I noticed something else that had me throwing up on
