Today I realize there is no putting it off any longer. I have no plan of attack, but I jump in. The decision to launch an assault has weighed heavy on my mind for days. With very inadequate tools I march into the jungle.

The weather is on my side. The air hangs heavy with dew, and the clouds join hands to hide the sun. With bare feet I can feel the coolness of the earth and every little pebble in my path. The shears are in my hand at my side, just waiting to begin. My eyes widen as I take pleasure in my invasion.

They fight back and tear at the flesh on my arms— how foolish not to protect my limbs. I hear imaginary

screams coming from them as I pull and cut. They have met the challenge and grown back at alarming speed; after all it is summer.

I talk under my breath to assure them this is for their own good, doing this deed ever so quietly so the neighbors don’t think me stranger than usual. They are aware that I take my coffee filters full of old grounds and place them strategically on my acid-loving plants. I am sure questions as to why I do this, and don’t use the chemicals found at my nearby garden store, are lurking in their minds.

This is one small way of recycling, yet feeding plants that will soon be ingested. I will rest easy knowing that my garden’s bounty is not dependent on chemicals. True coffee is a stimulant, and what better product to use for a plant to thrive!

The weeds are my next undertaking. If we all take time, and bend down to pull the weed instead of giving it a shot of deadly spray, it will be a start to a lovelier world.
