The man threw his head back, and with a mighty roar, transformed. Fur grew threw his pores and his jaw reformed. Razor sharp canines replaced his teeth, splitting his face into a wild grin. The nose elongated into a snout. His skin was lost in the sea of fur that covered his entire body. His eyes turned black obsidian and glowed with a malicious hunger. The pain was instant, searing white-hot and crippling, but was gone just as fast.
He crouched as his senses enhanced. Every line was sharpened, every color vibrant. He could hear the humming of the insects fifty meters away, feel every grain of sand beneath his clawed feet. The smells were the worst, each one painfully different and intense. The smell of the air was so strong he could see waves of it wafting around him in different colors. Every leaf had a green or yellow cloud rising from it, reminding him strangely of the green smoke that showed up in old cartoons when something smelled bad. His ears twitched as he took in the sound of his own breathing; it was ragged and low, with a faint wheezing at the end. His spine grew longer, creating a whole new world of agony, making him cry out. It sounded like the whine of a dog.
The creature stood on its hind legs, now heavily muscled and twice as big as a man, and howled up at the new moon.
The sniper sat at the window chewing on a toothpick. He looked through the sight and aligned the shot right where the wolf’s heart should be. He only had one shot, but that was all he needed. He took a deep breath, aimed, and pulled the trigger.
