BEEEEEEPPPPPP. My alarm clock rang. I glanced at the screen, 7:30 AMMT. I turned over to wake up my roommate, Amber, but she was already awake and dressed. When I rolled over she look up at me from the book she was reading. “GET UP!!!!! WE ARE GOING TO BE LATE!! YOU BARELY HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO GET READY!!!” She screamed. She tossed my clothes at me and pulled the covers off me. (Before I go any farther let me just point out, Amber and I are sophomores at Velasera Academy, an academy for immortals. Amber and I are witches, good witches. Today all sophomores are going to attend a local high school, for the first semester of this year, to get a feel of mortal life and see how they live.) I got up out of bed and put on mortal clothes, jeans and a shirt. I then popped in my blue contacts (mortals have blue eyes, witches have purple, vampires have red, and werewolves have gold) and fixed my auburn hair in to a cute mortal ponytail. We grabbed our bags and headed for the cars.
When we got our schedules, we headed to class. Our first hour was freshman success. When we got to the classroom our teacher, Mrs. Cox, assigned us our desks, right in the front. Sitting in the front was typical for us, at Vel Prep, good witches sit in front, but here it is considered nerdy. Today Mrs. Cox just went over policies and procedures of the school. Then our second hour is Pre-AP Oklahoma history. The teacher, Mr. Mcllvoy, was funny and he told everything in story mode. We all took part in what he taught. He was my favorite teacher so far. For third hour Amber and I split. She has Law and I have AFJROTC (Air Force Junior Reserved Officers Training Corps.). I walked into the room, was assigned to D flight, and went into our classroom. I picked a seat in the back of the room. I started doodling on my notebook when a familiar laugh made me look up. Standing in the doorway was my warlock boyfriend, Valiente Corazon. (Our names at this school are different here. His is Val Heart, mine at school is Calvary Timida, but here it is Calvary Shy. Amber’s at school is Amber Noche but here it is Amber Night.) So I got up and walked over to him and said “Small world huh, Val?” He turned around, smiled, took my left hand started playing with my ring. I looked at the group of people he came in with and they stared back at me with mixed emotions. So Val broke the silence by saying “¿Cuál es mi pronto para ser esposa?” All the kids looked at him with surprise, but I just replied, “La escuela es muy aburrida, como de costumbre. ¿y tu?” Then I looked at the kids who were gawking at us, and said “At our other school it mandatory to be fluent in Spanish.” Then I turned back to Val, who shrugged and mumbled, “Same.” then a blonde-haired girl, who came in with Val’s group, said, “Yall went to the same school?” Val, who had migrated to the desk in front of mine, said “Yeah we are part of the same program.” he grabbed my left hand and started playing with my ring again. I looked at her but she was staring at our hands, and my ring, and she blurted out, “are yall together?” Val looked at me, and with his eyes full of amusement he said, “Yea we are together.” she looked disappointed but still continued with, “how together are yall?” He dropped his gaze from my eyes to the ring he gave me last year on Christmas. Yea we are engaged. Yea we are getting married on Christmas Eve. To mortals it is weird and stupid, but for us it is mandatory to be married before junior year. When he finally looked up, he did not look to her, but to me and he gazed deep into my eyes before finally saying, “Calvary and I are engaged. Yea it might seem weird but our parents are allowing it, and I would really appreciate it if you would accept it.” His eyes hadn’t left mine the entire time and his smiled into mine. Before the blonde could say anything more the bell rang and Sergeant walked into the room. He went over the military ranks, and assigned us our uniforms we would wear every Wednesday. Finally Sergeant said “you will have the last ten minutes of class to do as you will.” And with that he walked out of the classroom. Val turned around to say something, but before he could that annoying blonde came over again and said “so you’re getting married?” I just sat there because I didn’t like this girl at all. Val finally smiled at her and said “Yes, but not until we’ve graduated from high school.” She smiled and just walked away right as the bell rang.
Val, Amber, and I all had pre-AP biology, and, because we were the new kids, we all sat together. We fell into our normal routine, I took notes as Val told me what to write and Amber asked questions. It’s a very effective study method. Today’s lecture was about the hierarchy of life. It was an easy lesson, easy enough that Val messed with my hair until the bell rang, dismissing us to lunch.
Val sat our books down and e walked together to the line. We can’t eat mortal meat (pork, beef, turkey, and chicken) so we grabbed salads. We found Amber and her boyfriend Matt already at our table with their food. As we ate I started to tell Amber about the blonde from ROTC, but soon after I started talking there she was sitting at the end of our table next to Val. Val rolled his eyes, grabbed my hand, and whispered two one word spells “Paciente! Calmo!” We instantly relaxed. He turned and smiled at her and said “hello Megan. How are you?” she lit up as soon as he addressed her. “I’m fine! Are you enjoying your lunch?” I quit looking at her then, instead I casually looked around the cafeteria, until I found this girl. She had really long light brown hair and brown eyes. She was on the complete other side of the room, talking to a group of kids. I could hear everything she was saying, despite the distance between us. She turned to look at me then, and when she did, something in our brains connected. I could hear her thought, feel her emotions, and I knew everything about her. I finally turned when I felt Val tug on my arm and I was brought back to reality. I smiled shyly and said “huh?” he rolled his eyes. “Megan said that if I truly loved you then I wouldn’t be scared to kiss you in public.” I looked at her and she smirked back. I shrugged. “Okay.” Her smirk quickly faded when she realized that we were actually going to do it. So we kissed, and not one of those hot and heavy make out kisses, a sweet soft kiss, like one that you would see on Disney. We looked at her then, and she stormed off. After Val was sure that she wasn’t coming back he ordered the spells away with a quiet “puede dejar” just as the bell rang. Val and I walked to Spanish class together and chose the seats in the farthest corner from the teacher’s desk. I sat in his lap until the bell. Just as I sat in my seat, the teacher walked in and said “hola clase, mi llamo es señora Smith, o profesora.” We all murmured hola back. Our instructions were to pair up with someone, one guy and one girl. “ Now clase, this is your ‘spouse’. You and your partner will do everything together, the better you do, the more ‘money’ you will earn. At the end of the semester, whoever is doing the best will get to go to lunch off campus AND miss this class.” I looked at Val and he just smiled back and grabbed my left hand. Today we were learning about the alphabet. When the bell rang, Val and I had $200 in class. We walked to sixth hour and found Amber and Matt. They were sitting in the back corner of the room, so Val and I walked over and sat in front of them. The teacher was sitting at his desk, just looking at our little group. After the bell rang and everybody had found a seat, he took attendance and our class sat in silence. Then, as if a silent alarm had sounded, he rose, walked to the middle of the room, and stopped. He glared at the class for a moment, then he finally spoke, “you don’t understand math, you don’t even deserve to use math, but I’ll be damned if I don’t clue you in before Christmas Break!” we all looked at him with the same confusion. I glanced at Val, who just continued to stare at him. The teacher continued his glare as he passed out our papers. We he finished passing them out he said, “Complete these so I can see your ignorance. You may use a calculator. Please begin.” I finished in just under twenty minutes, well before anyone else except Val, and I brought him my paper. He glared at me and said, “If you score any thing less than a one hundred Miss...” he glanced at my paper. “Miss. Shy I will put you in A.S.D. for so long you won’t know what a social life is.” I just simply nodded. He grabbed his answer key and started grading my paper. When he finished grading, he looked up and just simply said “good job Miss. Shy.” I walked back to my seat, smiling at Val, who was taking his paper up to the teacher. Val got the same speech, and the same result. I glanced at the teacher’s nametag; it read Coach Cluck, what a funny name. About halfway through class Coach Cluck stood up and said “I want to see who my smartest student is, Miss Shy and Mr. Brave, please step up to the board.” We walked up to the board and worked the problems he gave us. We finished at the same time. Coach Cluck came over and checked our work and frown. He wrote new problems out for us. While he was writing, I whispered to Val “let’s really mess with him.” Val smiled and whispered “terminar al mismo tiempo.” And I whispered “él y yo” Coach Cluck finally turned from the board and said “what is the answer?” Val and I looked at the board for
