When you hit the create world button on a new survival world, you have to know what to do. First, head to the nearest tree. Aim at the trunk and press and hold until you have destroyed the wood of the tree. Open your inventory and put the logs in your crafting square to get planks. Arrange 2 planks on top of each other to ger sticks. Arrange 4 planks in a square to get a crafting table. Place this crafting table in front of you and press it. Craft 2 wooden axes then head back to the trees to gather wood for 5 more minutes.
Ok, now you have a good amount of wood so craft a shovel and 2 pickaxes. Use the shovel to dig down in a staircase formation until you hit stone. Then use your wooden pickaxes to keep doing this for 2 more minutes.
By now, you should see it starting to get dark, so quickly open a crafting table. Arrange 8 cobblestone in the crafting table, leaving only 1 gap in the middle, making you a furnace. Place this furnace next to your crafting table and open it. Place 2 wood logs on the top slot and 2 more on the bottom. This will give you 2 charcoal. In your crafting table, place 2 sticks under the 2 charcoal to create 8 torches. Quickly, dig out a little area and light it up with the torches. Next, close it off with blocks so that no monsters can get in.
Chapter 2: In your shelterSo you're in your little underground room, waiting out the night. You will be waiting for about 10 minutes, so you may wonder what to do. First, you need a chest. Craft this by putting 8 wooden planks in your crafting table, leaving one empty space in the middle. Place your chest next to your crafting bench and furnace, and you can store items in it. Next, make a window. Have a peice of glass or a fence post, look up, and dig straight up until you can see the sky. (remember, your little area should only be 1 or 2 blocks below the surface) Quickly, place your glass or fence post in that hole you just made. Now you can see when it's day, and mobs won't get in in the meantime. After all that's done, it's time to mine! Craft a few stone pickaxes and head down your staircase you made earlier. Keep mining in this staircase method for about 2 minutes. Now, mine straight tunnels going out from your central staircase. This is called strip mining. Do this until the sun starts to rise.
Chapter 3: Day 2You have resources from mining and the sun is starting to rise. You must hurry so as not to waste daylight. Take your iron ore and put it in the top slot of your furnace. Put coal in the bottom. Each lump of coal will smelt 8 iron. (I'm assuming you got all these items during your mining session) Craft an iron sword and head up to the surface.
Once you're up there, either stay near your home or build a pillar with a torch on top so you can find your way back. You will notice flaming zombies and skeletons all over the place, and other hostile mobs as well. Use your iron sword to kill these monsters off and get their drops and XP.
Now that the monsters are out of your way, find some animals. Kill them all, you need the meat. Head back home and cook the meat. Now is a good time to talk about food and hunger. You will see a bar with little porkchops. This is your food bar. By now, it will be very depleted. Eat your steak, porkchops, and chicken to fill it up. For the rest of this day, harvest wood from trees and get a stack or 2 of sand if possible. When night falls, mine all night in your shelter like the past night.
Chapter 4: Looking forwardYou now have a basic understanding of what you need to do to survive your first few days. Now it is time to let you loose and start surviving on your own. Here are some tips and projects:
-build a house
-set up a wheat farm
-build a tree farm (later, you can build an automatic one)
-breed animals and enclose them in pens
-have a transport system with minecarts
-gather saddles and tame horses (faster transport)
-explore the area around your base and see if you find anything exciting
