Music Box
I was lost walking through the woods all i could see through the darkness was an abandoned car with the headlights still on. I walked up to the door cautiously opening the door. As i peered inside i saw a box sitting in the driver's seat of the car. I peer around the car while feeling as if i am being watched. I reach for the box quickly scanning my surroundings as i do. I examine the car quickly before jumping inside and locking all of the doors. I look down at the box and slowly open the lid a bit when i hear a whisper saying “don't open the box”. I suddenly throw my hands into the air screaming the box falling open on my lap and the contents spilling out i look down at the contents when i hear footsteps outside the car when i see a bloody man pounding on the window trying to get in as i back up i feel someone breathing down my neck and i stiffen up and reach for the keys of the car still in the ignition i turn the keys and step down on the gas and back up and as i start driving i hear the whisper in my ear again “you can't escape us, we’re everywhere” i finally get to my apartment i grab the box and i run into and i lock the door. I look down at the box and open it again and hear a familiar tune from the box i reach into the box and pick up a photo of a beautiful woman and instantly i knew who it was and a tear ran down my face “my wife…”
That night i left to go gambling for fun with my friends, she told me not to spend our kids savings but i got carried away and i sold our house and more in debt that i owed i was so embarrassed i didn't know what i would tell my wife when i got home. I got home and my wife made me a romantic dinner i sat at the table and i couldn't tell my wife what i did, i faked a smile and ate the dinner and that night i got a call from the gangster leader telling me that if i don't pay him back soon i'll regret it i continued going to my job paying them and doing odd jobs for people to make as much money but one night when i got home i found my wife dead and my children were gone i called the police instantly sobbing into the phone they had to relocate me to a small apartment in a different state i was only allowed to take one thing with me so i took this music box and stuffed it full of pictures.
It all came back to me the reason i was in the woods. I was driving home from the bar and i was sobbing staring at the pictures of my wife and children when a deer is in the road and i swerve left into the woods i left the music box on the driver's seat stumbling for my phone and i call 911 before passing out.
So where am i? On the ground bloody? Was the man i staring at when i was in the car myself? Why was the car completely fine when i got into it, and who was the one whispering in my ear to not open the box? Who is the one that i am running from, is it myself? Or is it my wife?
