I walked down a path many have taken,
Where I met her…beside the beaten path;
Where she whispered, “Take me with you.”

Morning mist stitched wet diamonds
Into her red ruffle dress,
While a wave of petals swayed in the breeze.

I reached for her…the soft caress.
I sought to draw in her rich perfume…and plucked.

Her prick…a surprise.
She tumbled from my fingers.
I reached for her again,
But stopped when red drops fell from my finger.

She whispered again,
“Take me with you.”

But no, for I knew.
