Indestructible
She's stayed by you
When you're sick
When you're sad
She holds your hand.
Indestructible.
She walked beside you
When you stumbled
When you fell
She picked you up.
Indestructible.
She comforted you
When you were hurt
When you were sad
She cheered you up.
Indestructible.
Your rock
Your foundation
Your courage
And your strenth
She never let you down.
Indestructible.
Then there's that moment
The one that changes things
Shows you how they really are
And now you're...
Her rock
Her foundation
Her courage
And her strenth
You can't let her down.
Because of that moment
The one that changes things
The one where indestructible
Turns into destroyed.
The Shadow
The shadow closes in
And it’s dark all around
It’s cold to the touch
It doesn’t make a sound
The shadow fills everything
On the clocks and on the walls
It travels through the door
Up the stairs and down the halls
Touching it is dangerous
This is quickly learned
If you choose to touch it
You’ll be badly burned
A shadow burn is painful
Yes, full of pain it’s true
It’s both freezing and scalding
Leaving you permanently blue
The pain from the shadow burn
Will never leave your mind
Always present, always there
Sneaking up from behind
Never really gone
Always really there
Soaking through your skin
In your blood and in your hair
You cannot escape it
It eventually will appear
Eating at your soul
Until even that disappears
Enveloping every aspect
Revealing all your lies
The shadow shows no mercy
While shattering your life
The shadow closes in
And it’s dark all around
It’s cold to the touch
It doesn’t make a sound
Army Green
Pulling up in his truck
He doesn't meet her eye
Both of them know full well
This could be the last good-bye
He takes her hand
They get out of the truck
Both of them hoping
For the best of luck
Army green and laced-up boots
Standing in his crisp, new suit
In the crowd, someone cries
He's ready to go risk his life
Been away for seven months
Only thinking "What will she say?
Will she run? Will she cry?
When she sees me on that day?"
Only two weeks left to go
When everything goes wrong
Two weeks seemed so short
Until they saw the bomb
The flag's delivered
The bad news is told
He had only been
Nineteen years old
He knew what he wanted
He knew the cost
He paid the price
Like the others we've lost
Army green and laced-up boots
Laying in his worn-out suit
In the crowd, someone cries
This soldier's gone and lost his life
Memory
Time destroys it
Voices change it
It varies from person to person
It’s manipulated every day
Something so delicate
So frustrating
So untrue
Without it, we couldn’t survive
Destroyed by time-
Over time it fades
With or without visiting it again
One day it’s there and the next
It never seems to have existed
Changed by voices-
They can only change the abstract
Nothing at all concrete
Hardly ever for the better
Almost always for the worst
Varied between people-
For one person it’s one way
For the next it’s another
As they spread their versions
They create a million others
Manipulated every day-
To help themselves or help a friend
Or just to mess with minds
It’s twisted and it’s changed
In each and every way
It really is a fragile thing
And should be treated with care
It’s hardly ever reliable
And never lasts that long
So that it is not destroyed
It must be recorded
So that it is not changed
It must be set in stone
Something so delicate
So frustrating,
So untrue
Without it we couldn’t survive
Love
You see her in the morning
And once again after school
You help her make dinner
You can tell her anything
She'd do anything for you
You'd do the same for her
Your mother knows you
On the inside and the out
Is this life?
Is this love?
Is that what everyone speaks of?
Have you been missing out
Or has it been there all along?
Unseen, unheard, for all this time,
Waiting to appear at the drop of dime?
You can't see her for months
Or talk to her for weeks
You used to see her every day
Until she moved away
Your friendship needs no upkeep
You don't need to speak for days
You can be separated for a while
And act like it was only a day
Is this life?
Is this love?
Is that what everyone speaks of?
Have you been missing out
Or has it been there all along?
Unseen, unheard, for all this time,
Waiting to appear at the drop of dime?
You hold your pre-me brother
For the first time in his life
He's two months old now
And your heart can relax
His hand wraps around your finger
He looks into your eyes
Everlasting trust it
Reflected in his gaze
This is life
This is love
This is what everyone speaks of
You haven't been missing out
It's been there all along
Unseen, unheard, for all this time
Now it's appeared at the drop of a dime
Honor
They've risked everything for you.
Some even lost it all.
They're fighting for your freedom
Through winter, spring, summer, fall
So here's a day to honor them
And all the sacrifices they've made,
The time and blood they've given,
All the times they seemed unafraid.
Say a prayer for them now and
Shout it to the world.
"Lord, keep them safe today
While all of Hell is unfurled.
Give them comfort tonight-
A warm place to stay,
A nice hot meal too,
In Jesus' name we pray."
Honor them today and
They will know that you
Appreciate them and their friends
And everything they do.
Thank them when you can
And stand up for them as well.
Join the fight and with pride
Your own chest will surely swell.
Thank you, men and women
Who so proudly have served
This beautiful country of ours.
The highest honor is what you deserve.
Your Shattered Heart
You feel abandoned
Lost
Unloved
Betrayed by your blood
Uncared for
Scared
Because of what he did
He left you alone
Deserted
Hurt
No remorse or regret
Is seen in the blue orbs
You call his eyes
Horrible
Cruel
Is what you think
"Dad" or
"Daddy"
Is what you say
You never blamed yourself
That all falls on him
But he still won't
Pick up the pieces of
Your shattered heart.
Heartless
Monstrous
That's how he acts
Like you aren't his child
Doesn't have your back
He used to care
Used to love
Support
Protect
But that's all gone
Now that he's left
He betrayed you
Lost
Alone
Afraid
Without regard for
Your shattered heart.
You're left to raise his children
Dependent
Young
Defenseless
He comes by for the weekend
Happy
Excited
When he has
No right to be
You want to
Scream
Run
Hide
So you don't
Have to stand and wait
As he breaks into smaller pieces
What already was
Your shattered heart.
Sometimes
Sometimes things happen
And you lose everything
What little control you had
Is gone forever
Sometimes things shatter
Creating something new
Something unrecognizable
Never changes back
Sometimes things attack
Every part of your life
And nothing is the same
It’s never okay
I Never Know
I never know
What to think
What to expect
What to feel
I never know
When I can smile
When I will cry
When it won’t matter
I never know
If it’s a good day
Or if it’ll be bad
It’s always different
I never know
If the sun will shine
Or if it’ll be night
No light to lead me
I never know
If I’ll get a chance
To just sit and talk
Or if you’ll leave right away
I never know
When you’ll smile
Or when you won’t
Even look my way
I never know
When you will
Treat me this way
Or act another
I never know
If you’ll hand my hand
Or push me away
Without a word
I never know
If you’ll kiss my cheek
Under the light of the stars
Or if you’ll drive away
I never know
If you’ll hug me close
Or if you’ll simply
Walk right by
I never know
What you think
What you expect
What you feel
Maybe
The world’s gone cold
I know now
What it’s like
To see someone you love
Suffer this fate
I can wish and hope
And I can pray
I don’t know what it will do
Will it save you?
Maybe.
Will it keep you alive?
Maybe.
But if it doesn’t?
I don’t want to live
In a world where
Your joy and your smile
Are no longer there
Your passion for your faith
And family and sports
Your funny stories
Our strange memories
Will I ever hear your voice?
Maybe.
Will I get to see you smile?
Maybe.
But if I don’t?
I feel numb
Except for the fear
Creeping into my bones
My muscles and cells
The fear of a world
Without you there
It’d be dark
With no sun shining
Cold and dark
No reason to carry on
Will I be able to smile?
Maybe.
Will I be able to laugh?
Maybe.
But if I can’t?
