Sonnet

After winter hardship comes sweet spring

Little green shoots pop up from the ground

All the awoken frogs and birds start to sing

The sun in the sky shines warm and round

Delicate fern fronds in the shade unfurl

The air is perfumed with the scent of churned earth

And the wind makes the leaves shake and curl

I feel myself filled with happiness and mirth

At dusk the moon shines full and bright

But not before a sunset pf periwinkle

The man in the moon smiles down on midnight

The stars above wink and twinkle

Alas, all good things must come to a close

So, for you, my love, a single rose.

New Year

A brand new you,
A brand new me,
On the very first day
Of frigid January.

Leave behind the old you
And focus on now, here.
You can start fresh, a clean slate,
Because it's a brand new year.
