It’s an ill wind that carries your name to me
It’s taken me years
Why can’t you let it be?
It’s an ill wind that cuts into my heart
It brings back the fears
And what you did to me.
It’s an ill wind that drives the pouring rain
Across the fields
Across the open plain
It’s an ill wind that chills me to my soul
Right to the bone
And brings back all I know.
It’s an ill wind that brings your voice to me
It cuts like ice
And how it tortures me
It’s an ill wind that reaches for my mind
Freezes the fire
And sheds the tears that blind.
It’s an ill wind that brings it home to me
All that was done
And its effect on me
It’s an ill wind that cries throughout the night
It cries only for me
I cry only for the light.
It’s an ill wind that carries your name to me
It’s taken me years
Why can’t you let me be?
The saddest sound that I ever heard
The pain hidden in her parting word
The saddest sight that I ever did see
The face in the mirror staring back at me.
The saddest sound in all the world
The goodbye kiss from the only girl
The saddest time in my whole life
The moment she faded into the night.
The saddest moment of all time
The losing all that I thought was mine
The saddest thought of all the year
The sudden flash of pain and fear.
The saddest sound that came to me
The saying that she had to be free
The saddest sight that I ever did see
The eyes in the mirror looking back at me.
The silk so soft
Like tomorrows dream
The fire in the eyes
And the skin like cream
The hair that flows
Like the waves on the shore
That dance by the moonlight
To an unwritten score
A flash of teeth
And a smile so warm
Laughing now
But beware the storm
The body so beautiful
So elegant with curves
You hear her voice
But don’t heed the words
An explosion of passion
Under dimmed lights
The morning after guilt
Of last nights rites.
Pale moon rises
Cuts through the night
Brings single colours to me
As pale as golden light
Shadows crash on the horizon
Like a pale ghost of life
They seem to walk towards me
Sharp like the edge of a knife.
Pale moon sinking
Replaced by a ball of fire
Pale shadows hide away
True colours shine and glow
But the pale returns
When the fire grows dim
At the end of the day
Where we pay for our sin.
In the eyes of our child
I see the bitterness
In the words of our child
There’s only pain for us
For the sake of our child
We must make it work
For the love of our child
We’ll find a light in the dark.
In the eyes of our child
There are unbroken tears
In the words of our child
There’s the break that she fears
For the sake of our child
We must fill the emptiness
For the love of our child
Let’s find some happiness.
In the eyes of our child
There’s a flame of fire
In the words of our child
Our love’s a funeral pyre
For the sake of our child
Let’s brush the past aside
For the love of our child
Heed the words she cried.
In the heart of our child
There’s no evil to see
In the mind of our child
There’s only you and me
For the sake of our child
We must let it all be
For the love of our child
Our love must be free.
Memories flood back to me
From the shadows of our love
The darkness holds the key
To the shadows of our love
And all that's left of me
Is a shadow of my former self
In the shadows of our love.
Forgotten faces with no names
Form the shadows of our love
Remembered places of fun and games
Are now in shadows of our love
And all that's left to me
Is a shadow of my former life
In the shadows of our love.
Shadows that form and weep
And shadows that fade and die
They enclose me while I sleep
And in their darkness I tend to cry
For the shadows I have of you
And the dreams that have fallen through
Into the shadows of our love.
A jigsaw puzzle of your face
In the shadows of our love
And your warm embrace can’t be replaced
By the shadows of our love
And all that's left for me
Is the shadow of my former self
In the shadows of our love.
Rain’s beating down
Shedding tears on this darkened town
Falling down
Falling down on me
Moon is in the sky
Following me like a mystics eye
Watching me
Watching only me.
Where are you now?
I never thought you would stoop so low
Crushed by you
I’m crushed by you
Where are you now?
Now that I need you so
My pain grows
It still grows for you.
The sun it can’t rise
Never again will it fill my sky
Shine on me
Shine down for me
Winds will blow
Drive like ice right to my bones
Freezing me
Freeze your fire in me.
My darkest hour
My greatest need
Held by your power
But felled by your deed
My darkest hour
My heart it bleeds
Can’t get much lower
Can’t be set free.
