I was walking though a wonderland. A world full of colour, the mountains stretching as far as the eye could see. An echo of a bird call and the quiet rustle of the trees of leaves, as the summer wind blew gently though them. I felt the soft grass between my feet, and smelt the sweet smell of oranges. I took another step forward and caught a glimpse of a shadowy figure in the corner of my eye. It wasn't until i turned to face it, that i realised it was woman. She stood there looking at me, with the kind of love you only see in fairy tales. Then I realised it was Patience, my fiance. Her hands stretched out towards me as-if she was trying to touch my face. As her finger skimmed the surface of my cheek, a loud crash came overhead. I fell to the floor, crushing my leg. I screamed out in pain. Patience looked at me, before standing up. I heard a loud bang, and the searing pain shot through my arm. My vision began to blur, but i caught sight of Patience again, I called her name. She turned, tears in her eyes. A man walked up to her, gun in his hand. He raised it, finger on the trigger. I knew what was happening. She whispered three words i couldn't quite make out. I will always wonder what she said. I closed my eyes as I heard a loud bang and a piercing scream. At that moment my heart felt as if it had shattered into 100 pieces...

"Bryant, Bryant, Get your lazy arse out of bed!" I woke with a start. I sat up and rubbed my head, squinting a little as my eyes tried to adjust to the bright lights. My best friend was leaning over my bed with a goofy smile.
"You better get ready quick, we're going on patrol in 10 minutes". he said, throwing a set of combats at me.
"Oh and Remember your gun this time!" he shouted as he left the tent. I was a private in the marines. The Earth was currently in the middle of World War 3. The year was 2023, and most of the world by now was destroyed. Surviving Civvies hid out in caves, or in Fallout shelters, or even Refugee camps like the one i was in now. I pulled on my combats and picked up my gun. I hated guns. I don't even know why i'm still in the army to be honest, I should have left after Patience was killed. I dream about it every night, how i could have done something. Im to weak to be a soldier, I don't have the guts to kill. The rain was coming down hard, and it drenched my brown mop of hair fairly quickly. I drudged through the mud across to where Peterson was waiting.
