The Morning

Declan POV

It was just a job. Three years watching her through that case, and maybe a little part of me fell in love with her. If only she knew who I was.

The alarm went off and I went through my usual motions. I hopped in the shower and quickly shaved my five o clock shadow away. I ran my hands quickly through my dark, curly hair so it wasn't too crazy. As i walked out the door I grabbed my lab coat and keys. Another day means another experiment check.

As I walked through the clear glass doors Miles, the receptionist, was there to greet me.

" Good morning Mr. Cole!" He said in his normal chippy tone.

I gave him a slight smile and head nod before heading into the elevator. The almost silent music in the background sent chills down my spine. I did not want to go through with work today. Practically torturing an innocent girl was not the kind of job I had in mind when I applied.  When the elevator doors opened Caden, my boss. was there with a cruel smile on his face.

" Today is a big day for us Declan! " He said grabbing my hand shaking it in his firm way.

" I know sir. Are you sure she will be able to handle it though?" I said still thinking of Bronwyn.

" She has been able to handle everything else we've put in that mind of hers!"

Caden motioned his hand to follow him as he walked over to the box that Bronwyn was being held in.

I looked down at her. Her blonde hair fell over the white pillow as she laid there with her eyes shut. Most would assume she was sleeping or dead, but we are the ones that made her stay that way. We could see and watch everything she was thinking, Her whole life has been a lie in her head. She has been in a lifelong simulation. She thinks she is just a normal student but that is all in her head. She has really been laying in a glass box her whole life. Everyday when I see how she thinks I fall for her a little more. She was put through all these problems, yet she just presses forward. She thinks everything through. I just do not get why such an amazing, beautiful, intelligent girl has to be put through all of this. I wanted to quit my job. I wanted to save Bronwyn. But I knew I could not. The boss told me my first day. They would kill me if I did.
