I hate it.' I said, making a disgusted face at the dress. 'It's a crime against fashion. Everyone knows that pink doesn't seem right with peach. It's just wrong,' I said making a disgusted face at the dress.
Callie, my best friend looked at me like I was talking in a new language that I all of a sudden made up. We were in the new mall that just opened right near my house. It was great to have a mall opened so close to your house because 1. It is a mall 2. I could go there whenever I want with whoever I want and 3. because whenever I'm sad, I could go to one of the shops and buy a new pair of cute sandals.
'Look Kay, Its your birthday in a week, don't you want to look your best?' Callie said.
I did a dramatic sigh and said 'Yeah but its just... I'm super annoyed, I mean i have had wonderful birthdays, but this is my 16th. Its the most important birthday since I was born. I mean what if I find a dress that makes me fall whenever I bend down to pick something up.' I said remembering an incident a few years ago. I shuddered.
I looked at her with my sad 'I don't know what to do' eyes. Callie always gives great advice. She even wants to be a advisor. She doesn't know what kind of adviser. Just an advisor. And she is beautiful. She has blond hair whereas I have brown hair and she has light brown eyes while I have watery blue eyes. She is the 'be yourself and enjoy your life' girl whereas I am the more 'we're 3 minutes late for class' worried girl.
'Look, If you don't want to buy a dress then you can use one that you already have.' She said, already getting tired of my whining. The one thing that she is working on as an advisor is to not giving up fast.
'Plus If you fall, I'll catch you.' She said dramatically. That cheered me up.
'My hero.' I said putting my hands on my chest and acting like she saved me. But I'm not kidding, I love Callie. The only reason I am not freaking about this birthday is because i will have Callie by my side whenever something good or bad happens. I looked at my watch and saw that it was time for my babysitting. I babysit because I am really good with children. And they pay me!!! I going to this new house across my street. Mrs Rain and her family just moved there. I think my mum went to her house because she had to do the 'hi I'm your new neighbor thing' and told Mrs Rain about my babysitting job. She is a very stylish women. I've seen her. She has black hair and green eyes that say 'don't mess with me' and she always wears suits. Even at home. She is very nice though.
'Callie got to go, babysitting.' I said.
'Ok, I'll see you tomorrow, call me!' Cassie shouted as I ran to the exit.
'Okay, See ya!' I said. I rushed out the mall and went home to get dressed. It was my first day at the job so I don't want to make a muck of myself.
I got home and wore my white dress that had black neckline and belt on it. With it I wore my black sandals. Both casual and cool. And then put light make up on. I put my hair up in a pony tail. Every babysitting job i went to, the kids always pulled my hair. So putting your hair up is a great tip. I grabbed my bag that had my normal things in it. Makeup, phone, money, keys, tissue and thread. Ok nearly normal. I love to fiddle with thread. I've done it since i was 10. Whenever I'm nervous, i just start fiddling with it. Weird I know but you can't judge without trying.
I rushed downstairs and told mum that I'm going.
'Ok bye honey, and don't get nervous just because Mrs Rain looks like a teacher. Be yourself.' she said, thinking she was funny. She surely isn't.
'Mum, she doesn't look like a teacher, she looks like a awesome teacher.' I said, playing along. It was true. She looked like them teacher that you want to hang around with. Weird but true.
I closed the door and walked across the street to the gate of their house. They had a wonderful garden. Neatly cut grass, watered plants and a small fountain that was decorated with flowers. I think a special event is coming up or they just like to decorate fountains. I loved everything about the house. It was white and small. But Mum said that inside the house, it is massive. And there was this beautiful flower on the gate that made it look like a welcoming house. And to top it all off, there was a attractive boy coming out of the door of Mrs Rain's house.
'Hey you must be Kaye. I'm Sam, I live here.' He looked at the house and then looked at me. I couldn't believe it. It took me nearly a minute to believe that this was real. He was the most gorgeous boy in the world. He had black short hair and was wearing a maroon shirt that was almost covered with a black leather jacket. He had blue jeans. He had his mother's eyes. Green. But these were different. They weren't 'don't mess with me' eyes, they were something else.
'Hey, you ok?' He said half smiling. I snapped back to reality but he was still here!!
His voice made me smile. I blushed. OMG, I was checking him out and he knew it. Ok think of something to say. Anything!!!
'Yeah, I love - i mean It's nice to meet you.' What's wrong with me?? Was I just going to say 'I love you. Wow, I have issues.
He looked at me half amused and half confused. Ok, that was weird, I blushed again. Chill out, hes just a boy. STOP FREAKING OUT!!!
'Sorry, i mean Hi, yeah I'm ok, I'm just not feeling well' I lied, touching my foreheard.
'Ok, so you are the new babysitter? he said. But he wasn't looking at me, He was looking around like he was finding something or someone. Maybe his girlfriend, I mean how can someone that gorgeous be single. Its impossible. I nodded.
'That's cool, we'll be seeing each other more often then.'He said smiling. 'Well I've got to go, My mum is inside and heres a tip, If you tickle Matt on the neck, he will stop crying instantly.' He said while laughing and pointing at his neck (It was a cute neck). Matt was the 6 year old who I was going to babysit. I haven't met him but I know that he is very cheeky. I laughed and said 'Thanks.' I waited. He looked at me like I was blocking his way.
Wait I was. Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!
I was right in front of the gate and the only way he could have got out, without moving me, was by jumping over the spiky plants. That would've been painful. I quickly moved for him to go ahead while saying sorry. He stared at me, like he was about to say something but smiled instead. 'Thanks.'
He then started walking down the street.. Then halfway, he looked back. I quickly looked somewhere else so it wouldn't look like I was checking him out. Again, but this time from the back. And let me tell you, he looked awesome from the back as well as the front. Then I looked at him casually. I could make out a smile even though he was more that 4 meters away from me.
'Good Luck!' He shouted. I was about to say thanks but he turned around and kept on walking. When he went, I got out my thread and start fiddling like there was no tomorrow.
'So how was it?' Cassie said. We were in her room, looking for something to wear..
My mum said that we couldn't have a birthday party at home because it was really small and when we told her about inviting everyone from school, she nearly had a heart attack. My mum was used to having small birthday gathering with my family and closest friends. But I'm 16!! Cassie asked her super-cool mum if we could have a party at her house. And she said yes!
'How was what?' I said.
She looked at me with a smile on her face. 'Oh, so it must have been great, because you forgot all about it.'
'What?' I said, fiddling with the thread.
'Oh my goodness, the babysitting!!!' She screamed. 'You have been worried about that for weeks because you wanted to make a good expression but for some reason your acting like it never happened!
'Okay Okay.' I sighed before telling her.' It was great, Matt really loved me. Mrs Rain said he would cry sometimes, but he meters. I read him a book, played hide and seek, made him brush his teeth, and then he fell asleep. Full stop.'
'Oh, so nothing happened?'
'Nope'
'You sure?'
'Yeah'
'Then why are you smiling like an idiot?'
It's true. I was smiling a lot since I met Sam. I've haven't stopped thinking about him. When I was babysitting Matt, I kept on looking at the door to see if he comes. He didn't. But he even said that we will meet often, so we will meet often.
'Look, you smiling again, please please please, tell me what's up?' She said, looking tired from asking. She had a right to know. I didn't want to tell her anything about Sam before because she would have made a big deal out of it. And I just wanted it to be a low key kind of thing. But I told her everything about him. From what he said to me till how his backside looked like.
'WOW, This is amazing. When can I meet him?'
'Cas, I just met him once, how can you say you want to meet him when me and Sam haven't had a 2 minute conversation?' I said looking sad.
'Kay, stop worrying. You'll be fine. And he lives here. It will be impossible if he never meets you.' She said giving me a smile of encouragement.
'You're right. So I got to go, I'll meet you outside my house for school. Ok?' I said while getting up and putting my homework in
