Whoosh. My bedroom door flew open to a screaming woman she shrieked at me to get out of the castle. I wondered what in gods name was going on.The woman that was just standing by the door was tackled to the ground by a beast far larger than her. I stopped in mid scream to realize what I needed to do.the woman was dead there was nothing I could do for her so i slammed my door shut and shoved my bed against the it. Finished with the bed I ran to my window and flung it opened not so high I though to my self before I jumped. I landed with a thud. No one paid me any mind as I searched for the my little sister who ws presumably doing the same thing as I. Running through all the chaos wasn’t a bright idea on my part. I stopped just before I ran into one of the wolfmen. He was huge! And grotesque. Shit I though as I turned around and bolted for the nearest shack that one of the farmers owned. To my surprise people were in it.
“ hide now!” I shrieked at them. I scurried to one of the wardrobes and flung open the heavy wooden doors . me and another girl climbed in and barley had the doors closed before the front door shattered into wood splinters. I held my breath hoping that he wouldn’t smell the sweat pouring off my skin. The girl next to seemed to be doing the same thing as well. Thank god she wanst a panicker. The beast was now a man.he changed right in front of us! The snout shrank with a bone crunching sound an a howl of pain. All the hair had recided along with his claws. He looked normal but we all knew better.
“little girl come and play were hungry and lonely.” Were? I though.Another one walked in and changed. The same thing happened for him the sound made me shiver.
“NO PLEASE NO ILL DO ANYTHING!!” I heared through the door of the wardrobe . there was a wet tearing sound and then silence. The pitter patter of claws against the door had me shaking tears streaming down my face. I looked at the one girl that stood next to me. I nodded and she slowly came closer to me, to my side of the door. The door next to us flew open claws raked the in side of the other half of the closet. but the squeal of another girl drew his attention away.There was a cry out but it was wordless probably for help. I had no idea how we were so lucky until the girl next to me pulled out a flower.
Wolfsbane was the most poisoness plant that grew around here. And the thought of carrying one around was obscured. But when she ripped it and handed me half I didn’t know what else to do but take it.The men outside are whispering to each other. One doesn’t want to look anymore! He thinks well just die anyway. After the exit of the men one by one each girl began to emerge from the place that had kept them so well hidden. There were four girls left me included. Each one whispered there name softly afraid if there were to loud the men would come back. Kate was the girl who hid with me. Ella and lily were the other women.something drew my attention to back outside. There was a bright light that began to materealize from the castle walls.
“fire.” I sighed. There where almost done terminating us. We started to gather anything that might help us because there was no place to go other than the woods.
Everyone knew the stories. No one that ever went in came out alive or in one piece. I say one piece because a man once came out of the forest and to our kingdom forest but well he had no lower parts. We were done examining the place we left with a pack on each of the girls back off into the woods we went.
It seemed like we had just left when the sun began to set. Nighttime, the thought of that scared me shitless. We had run into a clearing a few minutes back. None of us girls wanted to go back. I brought it up anyway it seemed talking to one and other seemed to calm us.
“When should we make camp?” I asked to no one in particular. Ella and lily seemed to have taken a liking to me and so Kate and I had formed a co leadership of our group.it was a few minutes until someone answered me.
“ I don’t think ill be able to sleep.” Said lily in a hushed tone.
“me either!” ella mutter under her breath.
“well just keep walking.” Kate hissed clearly irriatated that they were looking to me for guidance.
Hours past before anyone said anything.
“hungry…” breathed ella.we had walked miles and the farther that we went into the woods the more I felt watched and unsafe. Night comes and goes before we even start to slow our pace. Exuasted I collapse the next time we come to open area.
“get up!”hollered kate as we all fell to the ground.
“no we’ve been walking for three nighttimes and im tired hungry and thirsty!” lily bellowed at kate.
“We’ll make camp tonight.” I mouthed still out of breath. Displease and infuriated kate slowy began to unpack what we had brought. Each had a job to keep the camp running. Firewood was the dangerous and fundamental one an of course I was the who had the job been bestowed a pawn them. Kate had given me the job probably hoping I wouldn’t come back and was I tempted. I began my thorough search through the woods.I began to distance my self from them farther and farther I hadn’t known how far I but I couldn’t see the camp anymore! I began to worry I would be found by wolves or never be found at all the scenarios flashed back and forth across my mind over and over again. Worry became anxiety and anxiety became paranoia. Every sound had me jumping out my skin. Every branch breaking sent me skittering away from the sound. The yelling calmed me entirely ella and lily! I breathed a sigh of relief.
“Kali!” howled lily as I approached the camp.
“shhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!” I hushed her.
“sorry we were fretful. Its beginning to darken and we didn’t know if anything had happened.” She apologized.
“and were cold.” Added kate.
The fire blazed as the sky darkened soon we were plunged into darkness. With the hunger satisfied and the fire proving warmth it was almost as good as home. Only I couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched but I was too sleepy to announce it to the others.
The dreams were like none others I’ve ever had. A boy my age telling me its ok. OK? Whats ok? I kept asking but he just wouldnt answer me. I asked if if he was hard of hearing and he just smiled down on me like I was a child. His face then turned into my sisters who kept telling me the same thing. This time my imagination ran wild thinking she was talking about heaven. I asked if she was dead and if are parents are too. She to smiled down at me with tears in her eyes. I began to sob. Then she grew fangs which looked grotesque with her angelic face I was sad to see her go but I forgot when her face turned into those that hunted us. The tears stopped and I became livid my teeth gnashing against each other as I cursed at the face before me. My anger turned into depression and sadness for the lose of my loved ones.
The next morning I awoke to more sobbing. But this time it wasn’t me. Lily had her face buried in her hands.when I asked what was wrong she looked up with tears dripping down her cheeks. One look at the empty space that was once occupied brought tears back to my eyes. Even kate was showing emotion as she wiped at the tear that managed to escape from the corner of her eye. Ella was missing and the only thing showing who had taken her was the pool of blood along with one bloomed wolfsbane flowers floating along the top.
“NO,NO,NO,NO,NO,NO!!!!” I yelled at no one.why? damn it!! I walked past kate and towards a tree. I drew my foot back and let it fly. All the anger flooded out of as my foot made contact with the tree. Pain exploded in my foot as I grabbed at it hoping it wasn’t broken. We packed up our camp in silence and trudge on.
“what are we going to do about ella since im not leaving without her.” She said as she plopped down on the nearest rock.
I opened my mouth to say something but kate beat me to it.
“I know what yo….” She broke off as a branch snapped nearby. A scream echoed off the trees.
“ELLA!”shrieked lily. A gasp came back in response. Kate joined in.
“ELLA!” they yelled in unison.
“no stop it now!” I yelled. They each shot me a disgusted look but kept on yelling but with each holler we moved closer and closer to the sound of gasping and crying . once we found what was making the sound I felt bile rise in my throat as lily fell to the ground and kate turned away.
Ella layed on the ground strewn in pieces still breathing . The gasp they heard were her drowning in her own blood. I took a step forward and kneeled beside her.her eyes followed my movement. Lily sat down beside me. And with a short cough ella sent blood spraying all over me and lily and with that she was gone. Even with blood everywhere she looked beautiful her red hair matched the color of her blood while her emerald green eyes stood out among the red. I said my goodbyes and closed her eyes.
We walk awhile listening to lilys quiet sobs knowing the question that’s rising in her throat.
“is that whats going to happened to us all?” she struggles to get out.
“NO we’ll just have tobe more careful.” I tell her
“how will that help? We were careful from the beginning and look whats happening were getting eaten alive one by one? Tell me this! Whos next?”
Im awe struck. She brings up a perfectly good point.
“like I said just be more careful.” I say as I turn around and head off scared because I don’t know if they’ll follow. I’ve taken around thirty steps before I hear them one by one start to follow. Nighttime comes again and im on high alert as I go gather fire food.when I make it back to camp I don’t see anyone and my heart starts to race feeling as if its going to burts through my chest. I wait hoping they are alright and praying they didn’t leave me here. The sky starts to lighten when I hear someone approach the camp.
