They were the perfect couple. She was a cheerleader, He was a football player. And they were gorgeous. Everyone wanted to be them. No one wanted to know them because they were afraid they would seem more human and normal, and less unique and breathtaking. They always seemed happy. But no one knew the truth.
On the first day of senior year, everyone waited for their arrival, waiting to see them again since the summer. They arrived together, in his car. Hand in hand, head held high, they walked towards school. Whispers started as the students started to evaluate them. He had beige pants with a white shirt that formed his perfect body and his football jersey with matching vans with an all black backpack. His hair was perfectly smoothed back and sleek. In his hands were his football and her hand. She had a peach dress with a black belt that showed off her perfect toned legs and black sandals with a slight heel and a small black bag for her school stuff. Her hair had perfect curls that went all the way down to her back. In her hands were her promise ring that he gave her and his hand. The other students searched every where, for a misplace of hair, or mismatched shoes or jewelry. Nothing. They noticed that they were wearing new matched his and hers bracelets. The couple was very good at hiding their errors and looking perfect. No one told them good morning, no one greeted them in any way. The couple went to their lockers and continued their way towards their first period class. In class everyone eyed them from the corner of their eyes, waiting to see if they would yawn, cough or even pick their nose, but no one expected anything to happen. They were perfect, like they always were. In lunch they ate together while all the other students stared at them to see what they were eating and if they had a piece of food on their face or in their teeth, they didn’t. After school, everyone watched as they left, looking to see if they were still perfect or not, they were.
“I’m tired of this!!” She whispered yelled as she threw her self against her boyfriend. “No one wants to be my friend. They are all a bunch of people who like to stare at people; they want to destroy me at any chance they get. They don’t want to be friends; they just want me to be a popular cheerleader. No one wants to be my real friend. No one knows me….except for you.” She said as she looked up at him. He held her cheeks while looking at her eyes. “No….You are not, you’re the best girl that I know, and who ever doesn’t think that is an idiot. You are the only one that doesn’t expect me to be perfect; I can be myself around you. You’re the only girl for me.” He told her as he kissed her bracelet and her lips.
On the second day of senior year everyone was looking for them. To see what they were wearing, how they will come to school, and who they talked to that day. In the girl’s first period class, every one watched the door to see when she would enter. In the boy’s class everyone kept one eye on the door as well. No one knew where they were. They never missed a day. “Maybe they need a day off,” some said, “They are so cool, they don’t really care if they miss the second day of school,” others said, “It’s so romantic, that they are together.” No one was worried for them. They all thought that they were happy, together, somewhere. They lives were perfect, what can happen? They thought.
On the third day, everyone watched the parking lot for their car, they looked at his locker and her locker, and they stared at the doors, waiting for them but they never came. No one was worried yet; they thought they went to a trip somewhere, maybe Las Vegas, or the beach. They were cool and daring like that. No one gave it a second thought; they just hoped they will be back tomorrow.
On the fourth day, every one was at school except for them. No one wanted to miss them on their first day back from their trip. No one wanted to miss their new tanned skins or their new brand clothes. Again, they waited for them and again the couple wasn’t there. No one paid attention in class. The teachers also were tensed, wanting the couple to come back just so the class will pay attention again.
On the fifth day, every one was at school an hour early, no one was late. They all wanted to hear the great story of the couple’s trip and after hear the rumors that form from the story. They wanted to hear something or anything at all. Rumors started to spread and they all believed them. They were scared. They didn’t know what to do. No one wanted to be the one to suggest that something happened to them. They were too perfect. What can happen?
On the sixth day, everyone was on face book, a day off school, looking through the couple, his and her, face book page, the news feed, looking for anything that said where they were or if they were back. One person on face book had a post that instructed everyone to look at the news. Everyone raced to their living rooms, turning the TV on, switching to the news and watched in silence and in horror.
A car abandoned next to a cliff. Two bodies found at the shore. No survivors. No note. Acknowledged as one boy, and one girl, with matching his and hers bracelets.
