'What am i suppose to do on a boat for two weeks?' Kai asked, 'Ma, I'm busy all this month. I can't go on a vacation with you. I have to practice.'
'Everytime, this is your excuse! It won't work on me this time,' his mother replied solidly.
Kai looked at her through melted eyes and took his mother on the shoulders, looking at her as sincerely as he could. 'Ma,' he said his tone husky, 'I'm sorry. If I could I would deffinitely go, but Director Cheng desperately asked me to be at rehearsals.'
His mother's hard solid wall crumbled to nothingness, she had yet again failed to convince her son to attend a party where she hoped he would find a future daughter-in-law for her. Her lip quivered, the tears threatening to fall.
'Ma! Don't give me that look. I promise as soon as the bandtour is over I'll attend one of your parties.'
The phone rang and Kai looked up. 'I'll be at he studio.' He left without another word.
'Ma'am, it's a phonecall for you.' The maid held the phone up discreetly at her mistress, and left as the woman took the phone.
'Aaah, my mother won't stop bugging me to attend one of her trips with her friends,' Kai sighed, leaning back onto the sleek leather sofa with his arms resting on its low backrest.
'Where does she want you to go?' Jan asked, crashing down on the arm chair opposite.
'Cruising for two weeks with her guests. She's holding her annual ball on her new cruise liner,' he snorted and closed his eyes trying to gather his thoughts again.
'Ah, "Her Majesty" is throwing a more grand party this year, eh? Maybe we should go just for fun. Does her friends have beautiful daughters?' Kyran asked.
'I wouldn't know. I'm not that interested,' Kai replied, shrugging.
'Argh! Your gayness is deffinitely starting to show, ts,' Kyran muttered, annoyed.
'What? Do you wanna die?' Kai looked up to glare at Kyran. 'Who wants to spend their time stuck on a ship? Argh, annoyingly sweet girls gets on my nerves the most.' He let his head drop back on to the back rest, and stared up the ceiling.
'Aya! How would you know? You haven't once dated since I've known you,' Kyran pointed out.
Kai looked up again, snarled, 'Why you little-'
'Where's Aiiko? That kid should be here by now,' Jan asked trying to distract them, but checking his watch all the same. At the same moment they saw Aiiko appear at the top of the stairs and begin making his way to the lounge. He too checked his watch as he made his way over.
'Aiiko, you dog, you're late!' Kai barked as Aiiko closed the glass door behind himself.
'No...' Aiiko pointed at Kai, 'you're early.'
'Better watch it, Kai's on his menstruation at the moment, don't-' Kyran was cut short as Kai caught him in a headlock.
'You little punk! You really want to die.'
'Ma! How can you tell me this only now? I didn't even agree, I made plans with my friends for the next two weeks. Ma!' Mimi called at her unwilling mother. 'You should have discussed it with me first.'
'What do you want me to do? Tell my friend I suddenly want to cancel, it's going to be in two days! I've already agreed to attend the party, I haven't seen her for years!' Her mom finally responded, haughtily.
'I just wish you'd discussed it with me that's all,' Mimi murmured quietly. She left for her room and her mom breathed a great sigh of relief.
Dejectedly, Mimi retrieved her suitcase from under her bed and began throwing in clothes that she would need. Her mom had been excited for the last few days especially when she talks to her old best friend from her highschool days over the phone. Mimi had a growing suspicion that her mom was up to something, especially with this cruise ship she kept mentioning about. She threw in the things she could think of that she needed, and dropped lazily onto her bed burying her head into the comfy pillows.
'What?! Ma! I thought we already agreed that I can't go this year.'
'I don't care, whether its about your rehearsals, your seasickness, your phobia of drowning - whatever. You are gonna go to this ball.' Kai's mum turned and left without another word, hurriedly so that he could not reply or insist against her again.
'Argh, so annoying.' He kicked his way across the basketball yard, nearly hitting one of the flower pots as he hit the basketball. He took out his phone, 'Hey, get your suitcases out, we're going cruising,' he informed his friends.
'I thought you didn't want to go?' Jan asked over the phone.
'My mom's suddenly decided that I do,' he sighed down the line.
'You dog, I've got dates next week with some models, I'm not about to swap them for some mummy's girl,' Aiiko protested.
'Your gonna swap or you won't have any plans at all. I might accidently tell your models their dates look alike,' Kai threatened confidently, 'By the end of this week you'll have nothing but a red face.'
Kyran and Jan laughed down the line. 'You jerk. Fine I'll come, you better make sure it interesting if you don't want us to die of boredom.'
'Alright! Two weeks of the sea,' Kyran cheered down the phone.
Kei gagged. 'It's making me sick already.'
'Whoah! Ma, how are we supposed to find your friend inside that thing?' Mimi asked gaping at the giant boat that she will be living on for the next fourteen days.
'Well, we'll find her. It can't be that hard, she's probably waiting for her guests at the entrance hall or something.'
They crossed the passenger's bridge and was welcomed into a grandly lit lobby, the interior was largely overwhelming, everything inside contained elegance and majestic beauty.
'My, my. That woman sure has done good,' Mimi's mother complimented looking around, smilling impressed.
They continued into the Grand Hall as the staff called it and they entered another exuberant overly large room, lit with chandeliers and carpeted with red, all around were large windows with the view of the harbour. It was seperated from the dining which was on a platform above overlooking the dance floor.
'I feel I should be talking posh, and wearing tight corsets,' Mimi's mother whispered to her light-heartedly. A number of guests were already there, conversing amongst themselves, some, even in foreign languages holding a welcoming glass of wine.
'Julie!' A woman who had just greeted a couple infront of them turned to Mimi and her mother.
'Reina!' Mimi's mother called in return, reaching out her arm out to hug the hostess. Reina looked, smiling widely at the sight of her old friend, to her friend's daughter.
Mimi offered a warm smile to the woman.
'Auntie.'
Reina gasped.
'Ah! Your daughter?' Her Aunt Reina asked as she and Mimi's mother parted.
'Yes, this is Melody,' her moter introduced turning and smilling at her daughter.
'Wow, look at you...' her Aunt took hold of her hand and spun her around, 'my, she looks beautiful, just like her mother,' she trilled, 'I haven't seen you since you were a baby.' She told Mimi.
'If I'd have known I would have written,' Mimi attempted at flattery, sighing inside her mind at the thought of the long days to come being aboard on this ship.
'We're here.'
The four boys stepped onto the concrete platform looking up at the giant ship. Director Cheng appeared beside them, looking dejectedly at the ship.
'Well,' Kyran clapped his hands, 'Let's go.' They began walking. Director Cheng hung back, holding her suitcase in her hand. She was going to get the blame for all this.
Jan turned around to look at her, she was still staring sourly at the ship. He smiled, 'Gia,' he started forward and took her suitcase, 'don't worry, we already spoke to the President about this. He can't get angry with us cause he knows we'll elliminate the tour if he does. He owes us a vacation' He attemted to comfort her.
She sighed. 'He won't get angry with you, with me; yes. You boys get me in a lot of trouble,' she squealed scratching her carefully curled hair tampingly.
Jan smiled and led her towards the bridge, the others have boarded already and was waving for them on the deck.
'"Her Majesty" sure has gone through a lot of trouble for this. She must really want you with someone,' Aiiko turned to Kai and grinned. 'Too bad your gay.'
Kai grinded his teeth, 'I'll kick you into the sea if you don't shut up, soon.'
'Hey, where's aunty anyway?' Kyran asked.
'Idiot, she's obviously with her guests,' Aiiko retorted.
'We're guests,' Kyran pointed out.
'You're a stowaway,' Kai said simply before following a staff towards the ballroom. He was greeted by his mother standing besides another woman who'm he recognized vaguely from childhood.
'Kai! There you are, I was beginning to wonder if you'd ran away,' her mother joked through a fake smile with a look that said Why are you late?
'Ah! Kyran, Aiiko!' His mother busied herself with his friends fussing over their luggage, leaving the Kai with her aquaintance.
'Kai?' the woman asked.
'Yes?'
'Do you remember me?' the woman moved forward smiling warmly, patting her chest.
'Yes. Auntie, nice to see you again. How have you been?' He smiled at her and accepted the hug she invited.
'Oh my, you've grown, I can't believe you were the same baby I'd look after.' At that point his mother turned around. 'Reina, your son sure looks like his dad.'
'Except I thought he isn't as arrogant,' his mother laughed. 'Believe I'm beginning to wonder.'
'Ma!' Kai sighed, rolling his eyes, 'Oh, Aunty, these are my friends.' His mother moved aside to reveal Kyran and Aiiko, just in time was Jan followed by Director Cheng. He introduced them one by one.
'Nice to meet you all,' she greeted smilling. Her phone began to ring. 'Oh?- Excuse me.' She went to stand by a painting along the wall.
'Ma! I think I'm lost!' Mimi cried down the phone desperately. 'I must've taken a wrong turn.'
'Eh? Isn't there any staff you can ask for direction?' her mother tried to reason calmly. 'Well do you know where you are?'
'Ma! Ofcourse not, otherwise I wouldn't be lost,' she explained impatienly.
'Ah, wait, I'll ask Reina if she can send a staff to help me find you.' Her mother made her way back over to her friend, and covering the microphone asked for some help.
'Oh- Oh, Ma! I think I found a sign. Ma? Hello?' Mimi hung up and followed the non too visible sign that led to the ballroom.
'Mimi? Hello?' Mimi's mother tutted as she exited the ballroom with a member of staff, just as Mimi came around the corner of the corridor.
'Ma!' She jogged over to join her relieved mother who was thanking the staff for attempting to help anyway.
Mimi and her mother made their way back to the Hall.
'-it's like a labrynth in there,' Mimi was telling her mum as they entered.
'Found her? Sorry, Melody, I should have asked the staff to wait for you,' her aunt apologized.
'It's okay. I thought I would know the way first time around, but it's so big.'
Reina laughed. 'Maybe I should
