Tyra groaned as she woke to the sound of heavy rain falling onto her bedroom window. She quietly stood up and walked over to it and looked out blearily. It was still dark outside, and looked very cold and grey. She leaned her head against the window and closed her eyes. What was to be expected in the middle of winter? Snow? She laughed bitterly, and thought of her family home, back in Norway. Although her family was English, she had been brought up in Norway, and therefore spoke fluently in Norwegian and English, due to her English grandparents. It snowed all the time in Norway, and her and her siblings had never tired from playing in it. Unwillingly her mind flashed back to that fateful day...
Tyra remembered laughing and singing along to the song on the worn out radio with Rosa, Dale and her father as her mum drove. She remembered Dale giggling, as Rosa told him a joke. It wasn't even remotely funny-but Tyra was in such high spirits that she laughed as well. The flashback faded out of focus, and then came the bit that Tyra was dreading. BANG!
She remembered Rosa and Dale screaming; a high pitched, blood-curdling scream, a scream that only an innocent, naive child could produce. Then came the blindingly white flash, then pitch black, accompanied by agonizing pain. It always felt as if every fibre in her body were screaming in pain.
Tyra gasped as she surfaced from the flashback and found herself crumpled on the floor, then quickly looked around to see if she had woke anybody. Both Rya and Lyla were still asleep thankfully. Tyra stood up and looked back out of the window again. She blinked, surprised, and then smiled-it was snowing.
Tyra kept her head down as she walked into school, to no avail. Immediately, the bullies zoomed in on her.
"Hey look! It's the care home kid! Hey, Tyra, who's your mummy, who's your daddy?"
Their taunting voices floated over to her, and she scrunched her eyes up in an effort not to cry, and carried on walking past them. She refused to look at them, until one of them, a spiteful blonde girl hanging off the arm of her boyfriend, stuck her foot out and tripped Tyra up. She yelped, to the amusement of the others, when someone caught her, and put her back on her feet. She looked round as he started talking to them.
"...stop being such bullies! Do you live in a care home? Do you know what it's like to live in one?" Before they could answer he carried on,
"Exactly! Walk a mile in her shoes, and then bully her for it!"
"Well give us her shoes then!" They laughed and walked off as the bell went. The boy swore under his breath and turned to Tyra.
"Don't let them bully you. They're idiots. My name's Zack by the way. I'm a transfer from America, Colorado."
Tyra looked at him in incredulity.
"You moved from Colorado, to here? Why here? This is just a stupid little backwater town. There's nothing here anyway, so you might as well go back home." Zack frowned and murmured under his breath,
"I can't..."
Tyra looked at him properly for the first time. He had long brown hair, pale skin, soft, boyish looks, and light green eyes. In other words, he was cute, even if, Tyra thought, he does like a little bit like Justin Beiber. She mentally shook herself and said,
"What form are you in?"
"Umm...9S3 I think."
"That's my form! I guess you don't know where to go?"
He shook his head and followed her as they walked to form.
