My eyes welled up in tears as I saw myself run away from the only boy I thought would ever love me. My Derek, he used to be so sweet, so kind and caring, but that was before he ruined my high school life.
As I focused back to reality, I could see my boss’s face looking at me with confusion and surprise.
“I-I’m sorry. I just-“
“Shall we move on?” Demitri interrupted, saving me from an embarrassing explanation.
“No, I want to hear from her. What happened back there Ms. Aggorio?” My boss shot, looking at me with calculating eyes.
I shriveled away from his look. It reminded me too much of Derek.
“That was my boyfriend in high school,” I cleared my throat before continuing, “he-he just didn’t like me doing some things,”
“Clearly not,” he scoffed, judging me again with those deep blue analytical eyes.
I looked over to Demitri, silently pleading for help.
He just simply shook his head, and ushered me to continue.
“H-he, hated me. But it wasn’t always that way. He used to be so sweet, caring, considerate, loyal. Everything changed though, after we’d dated for 4 months. Soon, he fed off of our popularity. Everyone loved us as a couple, and Derek began to see it as a feeding source. He wanted more attention, more fame from our friends and acquaintances. I didn’t mind at first, but things began to get worse,” Letting out a deep breath, I continued, “He started finding faults in me, whether it was my hair, or my clothes, or what I ate, he was constantly controlling me. His reputation was so important to him, that he would do anything for it, and well, you saw what happened.”
Looking up, Mr. McHale’s face was emotionless. I sat there, dumbfounded. After pouring out my whole freaking soap opera story, he still couldn’t find any sympathetic bone in his body to comfort me, offer encouraging words, or hell, maybe even just smile and say it’s alright!
Huffing, I crossed my arms and looked over to Demitri, who was watching our exchange in interest. Snapping him out of his analytical haze, Demitri cleared his throat, “Very well. We must continue on. Mr. McHale, let’s go back to your old days,”
