good number of night dresses of her husband, Mr. Samarat.

“Anybody in the house?” Johnson asked her.

“No” She replied.

“Not even the housemaid”

“Yes of course”

“That is fine; and then why do you bother to have dress at all on us; let us play and enjoy the heaven of joy”

“Rohit is grown up, and if sees us in the bed room, he will definitely suspect us; and I many not show my face to him. And another problem is with my dad. If he sees us together on the bed, he will definitely shoot both of us, and you please leave me now Johnny”

“Don’t worry dear if not today, some day or the other all will come to know about us. Anyway why don’t you tell them that we are in dating since our college days?”

“Impossible they won’t accept either dating or marriage at this stage”

“Then we better go far off and lead happy life”

“Do you mean elope”

“Of course whatever the name you put it to our relation”

“Sorry Johnny, I am suspecting they both will return home at any time please go now”

“No”

So said he bolted the door, undressed himself, and then removed her night gown, kissed her and dragged her to the bed and forcibly.....

“No, I kill you bastard, don’t touch my mum” Rohit all of a sudden became wild, raised his voice, shouted and gave a punch; and it straight hit me on my shoulder.

I was about to fall from the bed on the floor; but somehow I could withstand both from slip and from the pain.

“Rohit what is that you are doing? Are you all right?” I asked him in a bit of confusion and anxiety on noticing his anger; besides I caught hold of him and sprinkled water on his face.

“Sorry mum it was bad dream”

Rohit came back from his dreams to reality.

I thought that it was all due to his anguish over both of us.

“I am alright, but I am sorry to hurt you mum. Anyway, it is my dad’s bed room and I don’t allow anybody either to share my father’s bed or do anybody to share you other than my dad mum” He was very firm in his stand.

He was thinking very narrowly about our relation. But he never knew the values and respects Mr. Johnson used to pay to women.

“Rohit mind your language and don’t forget that you are a kid and don’t over pose yourself and interfere in matters of Mr. Johnson” I warned him severely.

“Then let him go to hell”

“Shut up Rohit; and don’t talk rot. Please don’t belittle him. He is an elderly man”

“Sorry mum, if you feel that he is a gentleman, you better welcome him with great honours to your home or even into your life. But people by and large had been suspecting him as your paramour and commenting you that you are encouraging him by making your home a guest house for his activities. I am ashamed of your behaviour and so I am leaving home as orphan, good bye forever mum” He said painfully.

“You dirty idiot, how dare you to belittle your mum?” Mr. Johnson got up and heard his abusive language and so slapped him.

“Mr. Johnson, I seriously warn you. You better be in your limits. She may be your class mate or fiancée or otherwise, but it doesn’t mean that you have a right to raise your hand against me. If I do the same what will be your honour? Just I have spared you because of your age. But, anyway it was not your fault alone, but it was a glaring mistake which has been committed by my grandpa and my mum”

Rohit said seriously and kept immediately his dress and books in two bags and left the bungalow seriously.

It was about the same time his grandpa returned home; and he tried to stop him, but Rohit pushed him and went away.

“I am sorry, but I felt that is it the way a son to talk to his mother; and I couldn’t relish it and hence I man handled him Rosaline, but nothing I kept against him in my heart”

“I told you many a times Mr. Johnson, but you have crossed your limits. So far I just spared you because my daughter would get offended, but today she also practically suffered and there has been great divide between she and my grandson because of you only. I never saw an educated like you behaved so mean. When my daughter told you umpteen times not to come to our home at all, but still you are coming. I doubt you don’t have self esteem and individuality. Bloody shame on your part Mr. Johnson” The grand old man lost his tong.

“Sorry sir, I admit that I did a mistake of submitting myself to your begging and leaving Rosaline to fate. Thereby I am only responsible for ruining her life and my life too. Now you are all in a state of confusion and none of you could take a wise decision at this stage. Even I have come down and supporting a young widow you never decide this way or that way; and still you both are sailing in two boats sir”

“Please stop it Mr. John and I never expected that you are only bent upon worldly pleasures” I lost my temper and shouted at him.

“Shut up you sentimental fool. Now at least speak out from your heart, that don’t you love me? And I know that you still love me?

Mrs. Rosaline did you not deceitfully marry Dr. Samarat, who was already married and a father of a girl, only to honour the last wish of your mum?

Now tell me honestly were you happy with Samarat? Then answer your self-consciousness, whether you were tempted for worldly pleasures, social status and for property and assets?” He broke down with all his resentment.

I was upset with his accusations.

“Mr. Johnson you both got separated mutually and then only she married Samarat” Mr. Richards replied seriously.

“Sir, you ask yourself honestly whether our separation was done mutually or otherwise. Any way gone are the days and now Rosaline is a widow; and then what prevents you to unite both us? Why are you hesitating sir? And please don’t forget the fact that Mrs. Rosaline is my former love, who became a widow at a young age, with your great blessings?

Why this wonderful lady makes me run mad after her till date?

Why are you both showing sympathy over my idiotic behaviour not one time, but continuously for the last fifteen years?” He pounced upon us with his harsh words in high tone.

“I am sorry Mr. Johnson. I accept I did a mistake in separating you both. And a small mistake shouldn’t ruin the life of my daughter. But now she is a mother of a fifteen years boy; and our lives are not that important, but we are only living for the minor boy Master Rohit.

Any way as you have been pointed out time and again that I am not showing interest in Mrs. Rosaline marrying you? I am sorry to say that no parent in this world wants to see his daughter as widow. Now in your presence only I request my daughter to go for remarriage. Rosaline, I have no objection for your marriage with Mr. Johnson.

Rosaline please think from your side and if you feel that you and your son will be happy in the company of Mr. Johnson, you better marry and settle with him and I will be freed from all my bondages” And finally my dad addressed me with utmost love and affection.

“Sorry dad, there can’t be small mistakes and big mistakes; and sufficient damage is already caused to the loving hearts; and it is not a lifeless object to get repaired, but it is a commitment and a human bondage between two loving hearts, which are already rotten and there is no formula to set them right dad. Please pray the lord to forgive us from our do’s and undo’s; and now you better forget what all happened is happened.

Mr. Johnson forgive me please for spoiling your life. I admit I am not a good choice for you. Now I am only living for Rohit. Now I fear I my loose his trust; and love on this poor mum. Now because of you he left home; and I fear about his whereabouts. Please get my son to me that is all for me in this life John” I wept and prostrated before John to leave me and bring back my son to me.

“I am extremely sorry Rosaline; and I never understood the agony of motherhood. I know so far you all are pained with my awkward behaviour, but today only I have understood that how much struggle you have been undergoing between your sentiments and attachments, and besides your sympathy towards me. This is enough for me in this life Rosaline. I never lost. I never say that my love deceived me. But I accept that my love is not true, and if it is true I wouldn’t leave you let what may come. Cowards shouldn’t love, and even if they love their fate ends like me.

I beg your pardon sir. I would not have behaved rashly with your grandson. Perhaps this is my final apology for you all. If your family’s peace and tranquillity has been disturbed by me, I tender my unconditional apologies.

And I will not come for you forever Mrs. Rosaline. Good bye” He said and left our bungalow.

I could only hear his last words, but he didn’t show his face to me at all. I thought he came out not only from his sleep but also from the influence of liquor.

And my father somehow convinced and brought back Rohit to home. I thanked God.

“Pardon me Johnson; though we ruined your life you helped me and my daughter and finally became instrumental in bringing peace and harmony again in our family. I have no words to prise you rather pray you for you have finally brought together my daughter and my grandson by your last promise. Hope you keep up your promise”

I could hear my dad when he was confessing before the almighty. I kept milk on the table and returned to my room. While returning, I could see Rohit playing piano jubilantly. I felt so much relief and came back to my room and lay on my bed.

I only got up at 0800hrs. After fifteen years since after the birth of Rohit, I had a long and sound sleep. I searched for Rohit but I couldn’t find him at home. I never had any doubt against my son whom I love more than anything else in this world. I knew that he understood his mother’s heart well than anybody in this world. He might have gone for playing tennis. My guess was aright and I found his sports shoes and rocket were not there.

Chapter: 9

Honey opened her eyes and observed Miss. Jasmine stealthily entered the bed room of her dad. The door was bolted at once from inside as soon as Jasmine entered the bed room. And Honey could hear their voice as her dad was shouting at Miss. Jasmine.

“What nonsense are you doing Jasmine? If my daughter sees you in night gown in my bed room at this odd hour, how does she think about us? How could I show my face to my daughter? What a shameful situation you have put me? Never have I had extra marital relations with any damsel ever since my wife deserted me. But now—“

“Please stop it sir, but for whom you are sacrificing your life? After all you are only fifty and I
