Dog Blog
I'm hungry. No dinner.
The neighbors threw something at me this morning but it wasn't food.
Wait, is someone here? Woof.
Woof woof woof.
Oh, my mistake. I like my job, good hours, easy.
Ah, here comes young master. Getting closer to the bowl. Are you going to pick it up? So close. Sigh. Nope not this time.
Are we going out? He's got the lead. He's reaching out. A pat. No, two pats. He's hanging it up. Tidy guy. Sigh.
Look fella, I'm wagging, see me wagging. Dinner would be good. Nope. Gone. Next time?
It's a dog's life.
Heartbreak
“Why haven't you been returning my calls?”
The angry young man scowled at the woman seated at the end of the pier. She stared bleakly out to sea. He crashed to his knees on rough, salty timbers.
“I love you MaryAnne. You are so cruel.” Perhaps she shrugged imperceptibly.
He clasped his heart and bowed before her, his forehead rubbing the splintery wood. He sobbed quietly, then with passion.
Her red hat quivered in the breeze.
One last sob, prostrate in the sunshine. He got up.
“That's it!” He grinned.
He shouldered the mannequin and headed back towards the theatre.
Old Bones
Did you feed the dog?”
“Yes.”
“Really?”
“Of course.”
“You've got that look.”
“What look?”
“The one where you're trying to hide something.”
“How would you know?”
“I'm your mother.”
“I don't have any look.”
“You had it when you burned down the shed and blamed it on your brother, and when you painted stripes on the car and said it was Archie next door.”
“Ma! Those things happened fifty years ago.”
“... really?”
“Yes. We don't have a dog any more.”
“Oh ... Did you feed the dog?”
“Yes Ma. I'll take him for his walk now.”
“You're a good boy.”
