“NO!” Yulia yelled at her best friend, her brown, straight hair all messed up with her frustration.
“Please, Yulia,” Tabitha whisper back, “Calm down.”
“NO!” Yulia yelled back again, “SHE’S NOT DEAD!!”
“Yulia, honey, it’ll be alright, you still have me,” Declan, Yulia’s dad, told her slowly, his blue eyes sad and soft.
“NO DAD! It won’t be alright!” Yulia stared into her father’s liquid eyes, “SHE’S GONE! MUM’S GONE! SHE’S DEAD, DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND?! ITS WILL NEVER BE ALRIGHT!” The tears drifted down her tanned face like a waterfall. She flashed her head to the stairs and ran up them to her quiet room. There was a loud bang as the door flew shut. It felt like her heart has been ripped out of her chest. All that was left was this emptiness. Yulia heard whispers from downstairs; she shut her eyes tight and fell asleep.
The sun was shining through her bedroom window, but she didn’t feel any warmth. “It was all a nightmare,” she whispered to herself. She pushed herself out of her bed, and saw a note on her bedside table. It was from her dad, it said: “Got to work, I’ll be back for dinner. Tabitha will be over soon. I hope you feel better.” Yulia stood up and saw the mess in her room. “No,” she whispered, “It wasn’t a dream.” She fell back onto her bed and the tears started running down her face once again. She shut her eyes and pulled them to a stop. She got her bath robe and decided to have a quick breakfast and a nice long bath.
She went into the kitchen and paused to look at the clock. “10 past 12 already?” she mumbled. She got out a piece of bread and popped it into the toaster. The doorbell rang and for some reason, the tears were back. She held her breath as she opened the door.
“Hey Yulia,” said a soft voice, “Feeling any better?” It was Tabitha. Suddenly, Yulia remembered all that happened last night and felt so guilty. She turned her back to Tabitha and just walked straight into the kitchen without another word. Tabitha followed, shutting the door quietly behind her. Yulia passed a picture of her, her dad and her dead mother. She couldn’t control herself and suddenly tears started to spill all over again. She ripped the picture from the fridge and ripped it into small pieces. “NO TABITHA!” she screamed at the top of her voice, “I’M NOT FEELING BETTER!” Tabitha jumped, but didn’t reply. “I’M SORRY BUT I CAN’T BE YOUR FRIEND ANYMORE!” Yulia screamed before she thought it through. There was a gasp from Tabitha and Yulia couldn’t take it anymore, she ran up the stairs.
After a couple of hours, Yulia crept back downstairs feeling guilty. The house was empty once again. She walked over to her cold toast and picked it up. She wasn’t hungry but carried it to the table. There she noticed a note. She picked it up and sat down. The picture of her family fell out. It was the one she had ripped. She picked it up and saw it was stuck back together. She read the note. It was from Tabitha. It said, “I know you feel sad and angry, I forgive you. I am still your best friend no matter what happens.”
Yulia smiled to herself. Tabitha was her best friend and together they would get through anything.
