The fire licks at the sky, it’s long tendrils of red flames cascade down the wall. Started on the roof the fire must only come towards me. The smoke and heat begin to grasp onto my heart, my life. But I have hope, the stairs are only a few steps away. With my last ounce of effort I fly across the floor and descend the stairs. The fire continues to follow me, like my shadow in the small hours of each morning of everyday. Light shines ahead of, a door, an escape. Three more steps and I burst out alive.
