I heard a knock at the door and I went to answer it and I saw a baby wrapped in seaweed. What parent would leave a child in this condition, I picked the baby up and took her inside. My wife Claire saw her and took her straight out of my arms and cooed to her and tickled her. My wife can't have children and has always wanted one. Claire unraveled the baby out of the seaweed and looked at the note. She read it out " please take care of my baby Aura and keep her safe," I took the note of her hands and re-read it again, the wasn't the parents name.

I took hold of the baby and looked at her? yes she was a girl, she had beautiful blonde hair and amber eyes, how unusual. " Claire, we can't take care of this baby, we can't afford it,"

She looked at me as if she was going to cry and said" please mike,"

" fine then,"

10 years later


Claire p. o. v

" aura get back here now," I said whilst chasing after her, her blonde hair flying in the wind and her laughter following after. I stopped chasing as she ran off towards mike's boat, she loved the ocean but she was different and couldn't be seen in water. She had a tail, which was almost silvery and I have always wondered why her parents left her. I ran again, chasing but she was fast and almost at the boat. Mike hadn't been doing to well with the fishing and wasn't bringing in enough fish but aura wanted to help him but she couldn't be seen. She was on the red and white boat, I slowly caught up and waved bye as she sailed off with her father. She better be back before tea time or she will be in even more trouble.


Aura p. o. v

I loved going out with papa, I loved the ocean and I wanted to help him because I know about papa's and mama's problems. Once the boat stopped, I jumped into the ocean. My silvery tail emerged and splashed it around. " papa, shall I look for the fish?"

He looked weary, he gave a weak smile and nodded. I kicked down and felt pure bliss and happiness, I looked around and saw a fish, I spoke to it and it said " please don't let the alien take us, we will show you where the shinny is,"

I looked at the fish with confusion, it was a pretty fish, had blue and purple

scales. I nodded and followed the fish down to the depths and there were millions of fish down there and there was an old fashioned boat with yellowly coins and other items. I picked the box up, it was heavy but had lots of items in. I swam to the surface and saw papa looking in the water.

" Papa look what I found," He helped me drag the chest onto the boat and he looked so worried.

"papa are you ok?" He smiled and jumped around shouting, personally I don't get why but It doesn't matter he was happy.

" don't you know what this is? it's old money and were rich!"

Things were good after that, when I was sixteen we were going to move but that was forever away...


Three years later..

He was my first boyfriend and I loved him, we were in my room when we first kissed it was short and sweet but then he felt ill and went home. I sat alone in my room waiting for Sam to come back but he didn't then there was a knock at the door and his mother was at the door. She looked angry, her face was red and her makeup was melting down her face. She grabbed me by the shoulders and shook me violently then slapped me in the face, screaming at me.

"IT'S ALL YOUR FAULT, KEEP AWAY FROM MY SON YOU FREAK!!!!"

I began to scream and cry then my mama came back from shopping and came to the door to see what was going on. She grabbed me away from Sam's mom and held me close then said" why have you hurt my daughter?"

Sam's mum looked disgusted and snarled back" she isn't your daughter, she is a freak you adopted and she has infected my son! he has grown a tail just like her the mer-freak!"

It was true, Sam had grown a scaly tail just like me and it was all my fault but that would mean I would never be able to kiss a boy without turning him into a freak like me.

I went to sam's house whilst my mum and his mum were arguing and saw him. He smiled at me and said" look I'm just like you, isn't that great," I looked at him sadly and shook my head, walked up to him and kissed him on the lips and he turned back. I whispered sorry in his ear and left. I dived into the sea and lived there, when I was sixteen, another mermaid like me saw me and came to talk. She was a red head and had a green tail, " hi, have you seen the humans, aren't they just great?" I gave a smile back and shook my head " I've lived on the surface before and it was the worst experience ever, I'm happy living here even though I'm alone,"

She looked at me, almost as if she recognised me. I'm not that pretty, I have blonde hair, amber eyes and pale skin with a silvery tail. She kept looking at me and I wriggled uncomfortably and she stopped staring. " Come with me," I followed after her and people stared at we swam on. I heard people whisper" is that her?"


I didn't like the face people were staring, I swam on and now struggling to keep up with the girl and then we got to a palace and I had to wait outside. It was beautiful, pearly slopes, diamond doors, crystal towers. It was more different that anything I had ever seen, around the castle, pink and purple seaweed grew, many different types of plants some almost looking like trees.

I was let in and then the girl was with a man who was sat on a throne. He had brown hair, amber eyes, pale skin and a silvery tail. It almost came out as a whisper" is it really you?"

I looked at him with confusion, his eyes met mine and then he smiled and shouted something in a strange language. More people came pouring out the doors and some sat on the thrones, a young woman and her daughter but the others sat at the large tables. The woman saw me and dragged me over then crushed me in a tight hug. " oh aura, where have you been? we thought the other mermaid tribe stole you but you were here all along,"

I cleared my throat and said" em I was left at a humans doorstep and they looked after me till I was thirteen but then I left because I couldn't cope there,"

A girl who was older than me glared and looked away," mama are you sure it is her, after all your baby disappeared years ago, this could be an imposter,"

The woman looked at my eyes and said" no, she has amber eyes and how did you even know about her because we didn't tell you that we had a child," she was now looking at her daughter with anger.

She got up and then began to talk" it was easy, I took her from her crib and dumped her on the humans, I never liked her and she was going to take my place,"

"she was never going to take your place and what you have done is a capital offense which is punishable by death or you have to leave and never come back,"

I looked at both of them" what do you mean take your place?"

The girl sneered" yes if I leave you will have to marry the neighbors tribes head chief's son and trust me they may be good looking but they aren't kind," she turned around and left.


Before I knew it, I was waltzing down the isle to some person I had never met.

Yep I wished I had stayed on land with the humans but yet again I belong here.
